okay. where do i even begin?
tsujiri is know for having the original taste of matcha perfection for 155 years to date. and as a matcha maniac, i had to taste it myself.
so let's start with the matcha lava cake. well yes there was soft serve ice cream served on top, and the cool cream blended perfectly with the hot matcha cake. however, thecakeitself was a little dry. if it was moist, it would have been perfect! and the matcha sauce (?) was too little compared to what i saw in the tv of the store.
next i had the matcha milk float, basically matcha ice blended with milk with matcha soft serve on top. and prolly this was my favourite of the bunch! it may seem over the top because it's matcha over matcha but trust me it wasn't overpowering. it was delish. 💯
third, i had the matcha sundae. inside the sundae, you can see some red bean paste, toasted rice crispies (i guess) and a waffle chip on top. hmmm it was good but i didn't really enjoy the taste of the red bean paste but the rest was good!
and last, i had the really big matcha shaved ice (i forgot the name on the menu, don't judge me!) this is called sunrise because it had condensed milk on top, you could also order the sunset but with brown sugar syrup on top. well, this looked really promising but was the most disappointing for me. it tasted like frozen green tea, blended and served in a bowl. taste wise? it wasn't exciting!
but hey, the ice cream based ones were really good! go aheas and judge this matcha haven yourself! 💚

when i first came across japanese cafe, tsujiri in s maison, pasay, little did i know that they will have their soft opening the next day. i have met tsujiri philippines' representative, sean ponce, and he later on invited me to visit tsujiri to make a review about their place. so together with other foodies, we tried tsujiri's tea offerings on a sponsored visit.

tsujiri apparently has been in japan for 155 years already. it originated in uji, a japanese city south of kyoto, which is popular for its shrines and temples. tsujiri is a pioneer tea brand, and they proudly showcase their uji matcha, alongside their western-inspired desserts.

this cafe in upscale mall, s maison, is actually dominated with greenery. they have plants decorating the place. as for their menu, tsujiri has a variety of tea choices catering to those who have likely travelled japan, and those who drink matchas on a regular basis.

we ordered their signature tsujiri ice blended first. it had this bitter flavor, and a nice touch of sweetness to it. well, for me, bitterness doesn't make something, at all, better. anyway, one may choose to add matcha ice cream or vanilla to make a tsujiri ice blended float. this is good for those who would like an extra creaminess and flavor to their drink. i also suggest having this on a hot weather. know that they also have ice cream on a cone here.

here's a little trivia for you: matcha is a type of green tea, same as sencha, genmaicha, and houjicha, with the latter having this bold bitter flavor to it. this roasted green tea had this brown color and tinge of green.

matchas are a good source of vitamins and minerals, like vitamins a and c, iron, potassium, and calcium, as well as protein, l-theanine (amino acid), and fiber. this tea also has lesser caffeine, and has the pigment, chlorophyll, which helps in detoxifying the body, resulting to clear skin, a healthy heart, and normal blood circulation. matchas also has the antioxidant, cathechin, which helps slow the aging process and fight cancer.

so, we also got to try their o-matcha. according to them at tsujiri, they use fresh, quality tea leaves for this drink. it consists mostly of powdered matcha and milk, in hot water, which will be mixed together using a whisk. their wait staff will do the mixing for you. this is definitely a must-have on your visit.

we also had their yuzu citron, a drink with japanese citrus fruit flavor and milk on it.

as for their sweet offerings, my favorite was their tsujiri sundae which consisted of roasted brown rice, red bean paste, chestnut, shiratama (mochi), and the japanese traditional cherry blossom rice cracker, sakura monaka. it was a cup full of amazing flavors and textures. i'd say that this one was well-thought of given the great combination of its ingredients.

another sweet thing from tsujiri that most of us liked was their chiffoncakeparfait sundae. the creamy ice cream complemented the flavors of the chiffoncakeand sweet red bean.

i also suggest that you try tsujiri's shaved ice. this tower of sweetness is good for four people. we weren't actually able to try it out. they're available in two flavors - uji sunrise and uji sunset. uji sunrise is shaved ice with matcha syrup, condensed milk, red bean paste, and mochi. uni sunset, on the other hand, has black sugar syrup instead of milk in it.

as for tsujiri's cakes, i love their citronne matcha flavored one. it's a fluffy greencakewith luscious matcha bits and cream, and a citrusy glaze. i only had a slice of it but they also offer whole cakes.

all in all, we had an amazing experience at tsujiri having drowned ourselves in the goodness of their healthy drinks.

if you want to have a taste of japan, look no further and visit tsujiri. discover the goodness of their matcha offerings.

i can probably think lots of matcha-related puns but none of them could describe the yumminess of tsujiri philippines' wide range of matcha offerings.

tsujiri is a 155-year-old traditional tea brand and is a pioneer in matcha desserts. they have several branches all over asia, also in australia and canada.

me, being a lover of anything matcha (even before it was cool, lol) was super ecstatic at the news that they've finally opened thier first branch here in the philippines! 💚

finally had the chance to visit them this weekend with my fellow matcha obssessed friends, we had the following:

💚 tsujiri sundae
💚 shiratama sundae
💚 o-matcha
💚 tsujiri ice blended
💚 chocolate lavacakewith vanilla soft-serve ice cream
💚 matcha lavacakewith vanilla soft-serve ice cream

there were just three of us but we were so overwhelmed that we kinda went overboard and ordered every bit of everything! 😂 my favorites would be the o-matcha and the tsujiri sundae.

it is true that a great drink will hit your soul on the first sip. that's how i felt upon my first sip of o-matcha. it was legitimately the best matcha drink i ever had! the tsujiri sundae for me would be the king of all matcha desserts! a combination of matcha soft-serve, red bean, rice crispies, mochi, genmai and a cherry blossom rice cake. unfortunately the cherry blossom ricecakewasn't avalailable for today so they've put a waffle biscuit instead. you'd definitely taste the bittery matcha goodness, it was balanced by the sweetness of the red bean and the rice crispies was a nice kick.

i'd probably have to go back to try the other matcha items on the menu! it is a matcha lover's heaven! though some of the desserts are waaayyy too pricey, the drinks on the other hand were reasonably priced.

one thing i have to note is that their place is kinda small, i thought it was a lot bigger based on the pictures i saw online. also, the line could get busy at the latter part of the day and we were lucky to score a nice spot when we visited. their staff is very friendly and quite helpful in explaining the differences between the items on the menu.

if you're a matcha monster, you need to visit this place! 💚

my first time to visit tsujiri. went here mid afternoon for tea and dessert.

i quite liked my genmacha - green tea mixed with roasted popped brown rice. it's a good green tea with the rice giving a roasted flavor.

matcha citronne is a tastycakeof chiffon melded with matcha ganache and topped with citrus glaze

tsujiri is probably my favourite green tea place in manila so far. deep, rich matcha flavours engrossing both my sense of smell and taste are always a delight to have. i usually get some sundae with ricecakeor what, but i’m aiming to try their matcha lavacakeand a simple ice cream one day. service is decent, but the prices can be a bit high for some. i do think it’s worth it though. i’d really like it if they could have is a small description of what each drink is...i don’t remember all the terms (ie i cant remember what is kinako topping and what is kuromitsu), or what’s included in the sundae or shaved ice. this place is very much recommended for those that like superb tasting matcha sundaes.

so i went here with my mother last april to past some time and we ordered a chiffoncakeparfait sundae the ice cream itself tasted great, for me it wasn't overly sweet like some other matcha ice cream taste like but according to my mother who had been to japan it had a bit of a sweetness which separates it from traditional matcha ice cream she'd tried in japan, although what disappointed me is the chiffoncakebecause it was dry as in super dry which lead to an unpleasant swallowing of thecakeitself and once you got to the bottom of the ice cream thecakein the bottom is already mushy to the point that it kinda felt disgusting in my mouth, so i guess for me the execution of thecakemade it less appetizing i mean the picture looks good but the actual taste of thecakedidn't live up to the expectation, and thecakedid have the flavor of matcha but it was really the texture of thecakethat ruined it.

tsujiri milk ice blended
chiffoncakeparfait sundae

relatively expensive compared to other sundaes in the metro but i was willing to pay a premium if such matcha experience is top notch! smooth, creamy, pleasantly sweet sundae in the mix of different textures from the cereals to the chiffon. hefty serving to share with another matcha lover. willing to try non-matcha offerings next time.

a slice of tsujiri's yuzu cheesecake is a piece of heaven! light, with a matcha spongecakebase instead of the usual graham cracker crust. i could eat this all day, everyday and not feel "umay" (or full😂). i paired last night's dessert with a glass of iced yuzu citron tea. although thecakewas fantastic, the tea was truthfully citron tea found in most korean groceries ( contained in a jar and looks like marmalade). for a little more than the price of a glass of iced tea, you'd be able to buy a whole jar of it at the grocery. a tablespoon or two in a glass half filled with hot water then topped with ice and voila! you've made your own😊 this aside, i can't wait to come back to try their lava cakes next time😊

tsujiri has to be the place i'd never forget to pass by when i'm at conrad. i just love it so much!

taste: we tried the
-chiffoncakeparfait sundae (cuz you know who dosn't like ice cream with cake?)
- shiratama sundae
both were just so creamy, and delightfully tasteful that we went back for more and wasn't
able to take a picture of the others as my dad and sister decidedly dug in when i went to
     get more tissues.
never leave people alone with food!!! :)
presentation: its beautiful
ambience: i guess here where its just pure luck, the space is quite small and can only fit so much.
service: they were really nice and helpful.
worth it dish: chiffoncakeparfait sundae!

one word to sum it all up, it was mediocre. 😕 forgettable. 😕 while the thought that a shop that specializes on matcha as the star ingredient is entertaining, and could possibly be considered a first in manila’s food scene, they weren’t seem to fully live up to my matcha expectations. we ordered two beverages, the bare version of matcha, and the one in a seemingly frappe form, names of which i forgot. 😂 then, two desserts, the dark chocolate lavacaketopped with matcha soft serve, and the matcha cake. the drinks were average. the pure matcha over ice, was the purest of its kind, which isn’t supposed to be an issue at first thought, since you are to get the true, bold flavor of the tea, but for me, it was. a very concerning one. i’m putting the blame with how matcha has been too commercialized these days and oftentimes served heavily with dairy, and sweeteners; something i’ve been used to, the longest time, and this brew that they served was closest thing you could get to the real thing stripped of all additives, so, as expeced — it was too bitter for my liking. 😕 adding sweeteners, the barista would feel iffy about it, as apparently it could mask, and tarnish the quality they aim to provide with every matcha cup. i was convinced. did i like it? not so. the ice-blended, frappe form registered well. neutral sweetness, and a matcha flavor profile sggestive of starbucks’ green tea cream. good. 👍🏻 the lava cake, as a whole, was good, and really a delectable combination with the matcha soft-serve. the soft-serve was rich, and creamy, though it could use more a little more matcha in it. if there’s one thing unimpressive about this is the fact that there was no lava that flowed. there was, however, a considerable amount of chocolate cream in the center that once the soft-serve melted onto, tasted well. the matchacakehad a weak matcha taste considering the sponge, the cream, and the crumbs on top of it were all matcha flavored. what over-powered the matcha flavor was the citrus-flavored gelatin glaze on top. it was too citrusy for my liking, and it somehow got in the way of letting the matcha shine through as it was too pronounced, and sharp. it’s still in my plans to go back, and maybe by that time, try a different beverage, and venture out into their soft-serve menu.

tried their matcha blancacakeand i’m 50-50 about it. the chocolate’s rich and smooth but the matcha is highly bitter. in the end, my mouth ended up gasping for more water to wash down the taste.
