healthy and light fare. the korean bowl was fantastic, with just the right amount of spice. the margherita pizza with arugula was a letdown. i ended up just eating all the greens off the top because the pizza was bland. ginger iced tea was refreshing and especially loved the warm horchata tea as "dessert."

actually was a great experience.. it's no secret that i am a meat and potatoes kinda guy. don't know what to have to eat? if it has bbq in the name well i'm pretty much sold. i'll try anything and that even goes for true food kitchen.

so we join some friends we were visiting in san diego for brunch on sunday (05/19/13) and i didn't know much about the place. it was next to a cheesecake factory so i figured i have a "back-up" if it doesn't go well. the best explanation for true food was it was "true food." well good, i hate the false kind of food anyway.

our over the top friendly waitress did a better job describing the concept of true food with a few feel good key words like local, organic and sustainable which is usually followed by my saying something very politically incorrect about hippies but i accept the concept and decide to feel good.

san diego is well known for it's local bison usually found in the coronado area so i chose the grass fed bison burger and sweet potato hash with umami.

i had to search my phone for what umami was. i got a bunch of umami burger joints that didn't have good reviews. so i chose to show just how out of the hip sustainable thing i should be in and asked what it was. it's a sauce. ok.

so how about the burger? it was good. better than good. i was very pleased with the taste and the quality for the price. i'm not much of a sweet potato guy but since my other choice was kelp salad i went with whatever was fried or grilled. the parmesan cheese that is used for the bison burger really made it stand out. it was cooked to order with a little pink in it.

and of course i feel good because i ate something healthy and organic so as long as the bison roam the grasslands of san diego, i will continue to eat at true food.

true food kitchen is a chain, and this is comped meal, so if you're a successful, monetizing, moral, food writer kinda guy/gal, please stop reading as of 3 seconds ago. last summer, 2 dozen blogger-types (and actual writers) were sent down to costa mesa for some supposedly healthy food. nearly everyone was shocked at the palatable the food was at seasons52 . true food kitchen is all that, and a pair of chopsticks. it's seasons52, minus the dark booths, plus the light airy vaulted room, minus the severe 400cal menu, plus some asian sushi. it's the westside appropriate child of seasons52 and m chaya, if m chaya wasn't so darn vegan. tue food's premise is a bitch shticky. there's, of course, a restaurant group ( fox ), there's an executive corporate chef ( stebner ), and then there's the celebrity harvard md ( weil ) backing the restaurant's entire cooking theory with a "anti-inflammat

true food kitchen is kicking off its educational community dinner series with the first event taking place today at 6 p.m. each dinner will take place in the restaurant’s beautiful private dining room and will provide diners an opportunity to interact with executive chef nathan and experience a custom four-course menu reflecting a select theme using locally sourced ingredients.

very good, very pricey.

our fish tacos, cauliflower polenta bowl, asparagus and beverages cost $65 including tip and it was on the early afternoon menu. good food? yes. pricey? you bet.

nice open space decor and very friendly staff.
the food options are varied and the ingredients are of really good quality.
we really enjoyed our meal there. even had the chance to sit next to two local ladies on one of the communal tables with whom we had a really great chat.if you're looking for a healthy meal on a trendy place, this should be on list of places to visit.

everything we had at true food was very delicious. the dishes at this place are mostly plant based, so i wouldn’t recommend it to any carnivores. nevertheless, the ingredients used were bursting with flavor.
