i work in a bar, and i understand that sometimes it's slow and you wanna close up. i get it, i really do. but the bartenders attaphouse really turned me off from going back there ever again. i went there last night, the food was great, the beer was great but the service was awful. they could not have made it more blatantly obvious that they wanted our party to leave. we came in at about 10 and it was very busy. we got a table and had a server for the first part of our visit, but once the crowd thinned no one continued to serve us. at midnight, the bartender called to us from behind the bar, because he couldn't be bothered to actually come out and talk to us, and said " were calling last call and we need you to close out". we had wanted to close out ages before that, because they were blasting our ears off with an entire dead kennedys album, but we had been getting ignored. rude rude rude. as a service industry worker, i rarely, if ever complain about a restaurant visit. but what makes me upset is that i walked past alot of great establishments with friendly staff members to get treated like a nuisance by the folks attaphouse. honestly, who closes a bar at midnight on a thursday?

tremonttaphouse on urbanspoonwhen the pizza made its way out, i was actually a little surprised. the presentation was different than i was expecting. i was thinking a little bit of cheese on a thin crust with piles of confit and a fried egg or two that would add a little sauce when i cut into the yolk. i got the small pizza and thin crust, but there was a lot more cheese than i was expecting. it covered the pizza and almost the duck as well. a couple of the first bites were mostly cheese and crust with just a hint of duck. in fact, if i didn’t know better i might have thought it was just a pretty good cheese pizza.

great burger. i went to tremonttaphouse for the first time last weekend - early sunday evening. we didn't have a problem getting a table and had excellent service. i enjoyed the ambiance and was thoroughly impressed with the beers on tap. i had the joshua burger (med. well) with egg and it was really amazing. definitely in my top 3 burgers i've had in the area. the bun was buttery and slightly crisp, but perfectly prepared. there were two sauces (one akin to a tartar sauce and the other a bbq, i believe) and really made the burger.

i also ordered a side of the mac and cheese and really enjoyed it, but am sure i could not eat an entree size of it as it was rich. it was not overly cheesy or stringy, which was nice.

both in price and quality, it's a step above your typical bar food. i look forward to returning and trying some other items that looked good.

way below average. we had heard about the tremonttaphouse and were excited to try the cuisine. the chorizo taco's were cold. the short ribs wrapped in peppers were below average. the peppers had no heat at all, and the beef could have used a dash of wine reduction. the risotto was no better than trader joes frozen risotto. i would say not worth the money and the service was horrible. my 4 friends who were with me told me the food was way better when they were there earlier in the year.

they live up to their name by having more beer ontapthen i have seen in awhile. there are not many tables so be prepared to sit at the bar or stand if they are busy. we were actually not that hungry when we came in this day so we thought we would start by splitting a pizza. there was a few that sounded good but we decided on one that had quail eggs, prosciutto, and fresh mozz. it was great. each slice had it's own tiny fried egg and the prosciutto was thick sliced but still crispy. the pic did not come out the best but there was plenty of creamy fresh mozzarella. the crust was perfect, not too thin for all the great toppings, but not so thick as to take away from the taste of the quality ingredients. the pizza wasn't actually all th

bad quality and service. 1st experience

me and my girlfriend dined at thetaphouse around the christmas time. i cant remember what i ordered. the only thing i do remember is they cooked and drenched a beautiful pieace chilean seabass is bacon fat. it was the "special" of the night. on top the of the waiters were no where to be seen.

the second experience me and my mom sat down, the waiter gave us water and were not waited on until 45 minutes later we flagged down the waiter. he had forgot about and was apologizing about the long wait. my mom was going to look into doing a company christmas party there but we verbally burnt the waiter and left.

1 strike for bad quality food
2 strikes for bad quality servies
3 strikes your out!

thetaphouse burger served that night was nearly perfect. the bun - soft, lightly toasted, and tasting buttered and fresh - sandwiched a patty ordered medium and served well-done;

i would come here again!. pros:
huge draft beer selection (the husband was like a kid in a candy store).

great atmosphere (i would suggest bringing a small group of people here and if you really wanted to get frisky, you can play tic tac toe on their chalkboard bar).

friendly staff who knew about the beer (enough said).

great food (very impressed with the small plate selection, especially the pork belly carnitas. really, give it a try. the pork belly melts in your mouth).

cons:
burger prices ($12 is a bit too steep. i'd much rather have a burger in lakewood for around $8 that always knocks my socks off.

burgers (low end burgers are trying to catch up with pork belly, oysters, grilled hanger steak, etc. kobe beef burger might do the trick).

see you soon tremonttaphouse! betty w.

a cleveland gem. i went to thetaphouse with my familiy and friends last night and it was everything it was cracked up to be and more. an unassuming place from the outside, but a dimly lit, brick walled and luxurious interior greets you on the inside. the beer selection is top notch, with more unique choices than even winking lizard. i had a tappist monk brew on draft. we started with the pretzel with stout and cheddar dipping sauce. i had a wild mushroom veggie burger with fontina cheese and jalapeno aioli paired with a goat cheese salad with almonds and grapes. one of the best meals i've had at a bar or any place in cleveland. my mom got the mac and cheese and my brother the free range chicken. both were very tasty and flavored to perfection. i also tried their house veggie, braised brussel sprouts, and it blew my mind. i didnt even know i liked brussel sprouts! good food, excellent wait staff, great beer in a wonderful setting. the guy who took my reservation made it a point to come say hello and knew my name. i am definitely going back. thetaphouse is one of cleveland's best restaurants.

first visit. last night was my first visit to thetaphouse.
we had already eaten a full dinner, so we were just checking it out for a future and longer visit.

my daughter and i got there around 5;00 and were the only patrons inside.
one or two tables of dinners were seated in the huge outside area, so it was kind of slow and very quiet.
my daughter ordered the hot pretzel with cheese and i ordered the calamari and we shared a large bottle of green flash imperial ipa, $14.00. (for the price, i felt the beer was underwhelming and didn't live up to the reviews on beer advocate)
she loved the pretzel and i thought the large portion of calamari was tasty.
the next time i visit i will drink the beers on their very impressive draft list.
we sat inside at the bar but i did take a quick peek outside and noticed a large white screen had been installed.
the bartender informed me that they intend to run movies on monday nights on the outdoor screen.
interesting concept, and i might have to come back on a monday evening and check it out.

what the bspot wants to be.. just so you know, i do like the bspot, a whole lot, but thetaphouse is much better.

1) cooler neighborhood.
2) better beer selection by far.
3) the food is almost as good. the pizzas are not great but everything else is good.
4) the salads are better than bspot.

great place.

good beer and food. i've been trying to get the taphouse for more than a year. finally went there for a quick drink and taste on saturday. beer selection ontapis very above average and menu looked good. i had the mussels and frites, strang combination includes bits of bacon and blue cheese and "thrown together in a large bowl...it was outstanding and at the end i was scooping the broth with a discarded shell to savor the last drop. my lovely wife ordered the ahi tuna sandwich and was equally impressed. sat at the bar and service was excellent. we will be back !! soon !!

how bout tapping into your customers?. i spent a couple hours at thetaphouse about a week ago. i took a friend there because she had never been and we were tired of the usual tremont haunts. i cant tell you when the last time was that i received such incredibly bad service!

we sat at the bar, there were only about 20 or so people there and ordered an appetizer and drinks...we were drinking at about the same speed yet when one of us would manage to flag down a bartender for another drink, they would only bring one drink!! this happened not only once but at least three times with one bartender and also again with the owner! he brought one drink and not the other..this being our first stop and neither of us had drinks prior we knew it wasnt because they didnt want to serve us because of over-consumption. unless it was on their part!!

with the small amount of people there and the fact that we invited people to meet us and our check ever increasing, we expected to just be served,, not fawned over, served. looking around, it became apparent that others were also waiting far too long to be served. maybe spending $100 is nothing to thetaphouse and its owners...perhaps that was the problem...oh and i still tipped 20% which seemed to make the amnesiac bartender happy, although he seemed a tad embarrassed....never again!

i had read some not so favorable reviews of the tremonttaphouse, so went with some reservations. but friends wanted to go so 4 of us went on a saturday night. we were going to have to wait for a table so opted to sit at the bar.
two of us ordered pizzas (ok but not thrilling) while i had the pierogoes (excellent) and one lasagna (wonderful) and two salads; one being the iceberg and one the house (good as well).
service was fast and efficient and my only complaint was the music played was way too loud. (dont' get me wrong; i love loud rock n roll just not when trying to eat dinner with friends who i would like to converse with). as our time there came to an end someone finally lowered the volume to a low roar; which was more suitable.
the beers were fantastic and i have to say that i would go back again to dine and drink.
a nice gem in the area of cleveland that alot of out of towners have overlooked.
