a great bennett valley jewel!. i walked into trattoria cattaneo and decided to sit at the bar as i was by myself. riccardo (the owner) asked if i wanted something to drink right away. i ordered a peroni (beer) it was ice cold. he told me the specials & i ordered the seared mahi-mahi topped with salsa verde and polenta on fresh spinach. after a couple minutes riccardo brought me a slice of bruschetta which was delicious! the staff in there was very attentive. about the time i finished my peroni, i was brought my meal. it looked & smelled wonderful. i ordered one more peroni & took my first bite of my meal. it melted in my mouth. wow!! i thoroughly enjoyed it. theservicewas great and it was great getting a chance to talk to riccardo & julie (the cook). thank you riccardo & julie for a wonderful dinner. i will be back often and will recommend this place to all my friends.

really no!. i will first start with a positive, theservicewas casual and attentive.
the rest, i'm afraid, is about the poor quality of food. i am a first-generation born in america italian. i make nearly yearly trips to visit family in tuscany, italy. several members of my family are professional chefs, in the us and in italy. i know italian food, northern and southern. this little restaurant needs some help. i ordered the minestrone and the polenta appetizer. first, the minestrone had full size penne that i could tell upon first glance was over cooked. the pasta was completely bloated and falling apart. the ingredients in the soup seemed to be carrots and pasta- this might have been poor scooping. however, the minestrone was made with a tomato base that was akin to campbells tomato soup, yikes. (minestrone is a stock based soup. and minestrone does not rhyme with "pony" fyi) after struggling through this, i hoped the polenta would be better. unfortunately, i was wrong. the polenta was cold, which they tried to remedy with a super hot sauce. the sauce tasted the same as the minestrone. i can only assume that they used the same base for this. it was all so uninspired, the food had no soul. this is not a replacement for roberto's.

i know that restaurants will do fusions and new spins on old ideas, but quality is quality. i feel that, at the very least, an italian restaurant should have a good sauce.

my friend ate two bites of her cannelloni and refused to take it home. i have never seen her not finish a meal. she was too kind to utter any poor word in the restaurant, saving all of her comments for the car.

trattoria, please reconsider your recipes and make italians proud. thank you.

old world restaurant in small strip mall. reminiscent of a north beach restaurant i grew up eating at with my parents. very rustic and quaint.serviceis friendly and good. food is very good, serving large portions. too much for a girlie-girl and, even my hubby took some of his delicious pasta home! wines by the glass decent. overall a very reasonably priced place where the owner greets you, himself. would recommend this place to anyone who wants authentic home-style italian cooking. the good, the bad, and the inedible.....(a food blogger).

excellent italian food in bennett valley. we have been accustomed to driving pretty far from home to have a really good italian meal. no more! no matter where you live, make your way to trattoria cattaneo. the eggplant parmesan is to die for, the marinara sauce is divine, as are the homemade pastas, and theservicecouldn't be better. walk in for your very own "ciao, bella!" and enjoy a great meal.

the best. everything about this restaurant was exceptional. the food andservicewas exceptional. ricardo and julie(owners and chef) were the perfect hosts. i have not had such a pleasant dining experience in such a long time. the only criticism i would make and, i admit it is a small one, is that i wish a vegetable or small salad came with the meal instead of having to buy the salad separately. otherwise, everything was perfect.
