solid good italian food cooked by the italian/kiwi owner. well priced and nice atmosphere.serviceis usually good and i go away feeling like i've been to italy.

this little italian restaurant is one of those rare places that is very quaint and unassuming from the street but it packs a major punch when delivering dish after dish of some of the most beautiful italian food i have ever had!! if you are in a hurry and don't enjoy the company of your table then don't come here it's not fast food, it is hand made deliciousness meant to be enjoyed and savoured. worth every penny and every minute waiting (although we had three courses in less then 1 hour) compliments to the chef, theservicestaff and the owners a true masterpiece - bellissimo

came here on our first night in napier. we were looking around the town centre until this little place struck me, which reminded me of the restaurants i've been in italy!

the entrées were great, and mains were amazing especially the eye fillet!

my wife and i tried this place for the first time and were not disappointed. the food was excellent, and the staff were warm friendly and attentive. only thing i found a little odd was the bill had a space to add a tip and it was circled as if they were expecting one. a little odd in new zealand culture especially as we had multiple people serving our food so not sure who we would be tipping. also as the prices were quite high, not sure a tip was necessary. theservicewas great though.

first visit to this place a few years ago was a real highlight and we have had it marked for a return trip ever since. finally made it back and once again it delivered. the antipasto platter, ravioli in sage butter, fish of the day, chicken marsala, veal scallopine, classic crème caramel and profiteroles were all excellent. a bottle of soave and a bottle of chianti classico riserva, both were very good matches. theservicewas friendly, efficient and at times entertaining, in the nicest possible way. if you like this style of eatery i reckon you won't find a better one in nz. if you have been to italy as i have, you will not be disappointed. looking forward to the next time.

excellentserviceand lovely food. the restaurant had a very relaxed atmosphere and it was great to see families with young children enjoying their meals. it is quite expensive but is well worth it for a special occasion.

had the gnocchi, the profiteroles, the antipasto platter and it was great. am goon go back when a friend arrives from overseas. the prices were expensive, but when you taste the food, it's definitely worth it. look forward to going there again.servicewas excellent as well.

well, an extremely disappointing end to what was a lovely evening!
our story: dinner booked for a table of 12 adults. we wined and dined and were overall very impressed... until it came time to pay! we were charged for wine per glass and when we questioned why we were not charged, instead, per bottle (a lot cheaper than paying for individual glasses) the owner turned around and told us it was because we had not asked for a bottle and it costs to clean glasses (according to him we were given clean glasses when each glass was refilled - this was a complete lie - never once was my glass changed for a clean one). he was extremely rude and displayed the most appalling customerservicei have come across in a long time.
we, as a group, travel frequently around nz and have the opportunity to dine at some lovely places.... this one... not recommended...
your money is better spent, from a customerservicepoint of view, at macdonalds!

my wife and i dined again on friday night, this is the third time in the last three months, each time we have had the sameserviceexperience brilliant, greated at the door by a delightfull owner and seated where we liked, each dish we had was absolutely devine,we have both had different dishes each visit and the flavours of each dish has been absolutely beautiful, we will continue to visit till we have been through the whole menu

had the worstservicewe have ever experienced at any restaurant in nz and we eat out regularly. booked for two people for 7pm. table wasn't ready so our waitress sat us at a table she told us was 'awful' while we waited '30 seconds' for our table to become free. took 15 minutes. ordered pizza bread, entree size seafood fettuccine and main size chicken fettuccine. waited an hour and asked where our pizza bread was. after 10 minutes the waiter came back and said there had been a mistake and our orders hadn't gone to the kitchen. he asked who took our order and we explained it had been the head waitress. they were trying to blame the young waitress who was clearly new but much better than the other two senior waiters. long story short, our mains took another half hour to turn up. no one apologised. we got the entree size chicken fettuccine instead of the main. no one came to ask for more drinks orders. our 'pizza bread' that we had ordered came after our mains and was garlic bread! a disaster all round. and to top it off, the waitress argued with us when we were paying as we refused to pay for the main size pasta, as we didn't receive it. she said we had as it was clearly on the docket. unbelievable. will never go back again. ever. shocking.servicesuggestion - have one person looking after each section so the waiters know which step in the process each table is up to - no one knew what was going on and two other tables complained while we were there.

good but only that. meal was well done but a little plain and rather sparse.serviceokay. not a complaint but not up to big city standards. might try again.

my wife and i were transported back to italy last night when we enjoyed wonderful food, excellentserviceand warm, friendly recognition from the owner. the gnocchi with a gorgonzola sauce had wonderful flavour, the filetto (fillet steak) was not only the most tender i have eaten, but it had more then usual flavour. my wife thoroughly enjoyed the seafood fettuccine which she shared with me - again great flavour. the meals were generous and the whole evening thoroughly enjoyable. we have lived in italy, dined throughout the entire country, and nowhere was the food better than at trattoria alla toscana. we will return! frank & rose

i have to compliment the staff for the absolutely wonderfulservicebut as for the chicken pasta dish i received that night was very tasteless it had hardly sauce so it was very bland the worst pasta meal i have gotten from a restaurant. my partner though enjoyed his meal whereas my one just tasted like boiled pasta without flavour i was unable to finish my meal.

what a find on our holiday. the restaurant was very busy and we had to wait 10 mins for a table but it was worth it. theservicewas great with the owner checking in to make sure we were happy. the food was sensational - i had the market fish and my partner had the special seafood risotto..
we even shared a dessert which for us is unusual. delicious.
at the end of the meal we were given a free limoncello and the owner thanked us warmly for coming and kissed my hand. a charming gesture.
