tip top kitchen and cocktails

exceeded expectations. i went in with high expectations and they were met and exceeded. service was quick, helpful and attentive. my wife and i ordered the corn fritters to start. they arrived a short few minutes later, fried to a nice golden brown. they were excellent, sweet and salty with a little bit of a spicy kick at the end. this was a starter you won't find in a chain restaurant and it was executed very well. for entrees i had the highly recommended pot roast sandwich, my wife had a veggie wrap. the pot roastsandwichwas a heap of nicely seasoned and melt in your mouth soft beef on a nice pretzel bun. it was served with a slice of swiss cheese which i scraped off as i am not a fan. the pot roast was nice and juicy but thesandwichwas a touch dry in places. admittedly the swiss cheese i scraped off might have helped, but i think a little horseradish sauce or a side of jus might benefit the sandwich. despite this thesandwichwas excellent and came with some merely ok chips on the side that badly needed salt. my wife's veggie wrap looked great, and she was a big fan. it was served warm, something most places don't bother doing with veggie wraps, and stuffed with a nice variety of veggies. it was almost more of a veggie burrito, but that's an observation not a complaint. it was served with the same merely ok chips on the side. we will definitely be going back in the future.

met up with friends in columbus while attending an event that the ohio state university held for band students.  we decided to grab a quick bite at tip top before the performance.  i tried the pot roastsandwichwith regular fries, my colleagues tried the samesandwichwith sweet potato fries.  everyone enjoyed the food.  i thought the pot roast was good, but for me a bit dry.   i needed to add the dipping sauce that was supposed to be for the sweet potato fries to the sandwich.  when i did that - it was really good.   the bar had the feeling of pubs that i visited in boston.  very comfortable and friendly staff.  they also serve drafts pbr for $2 and rc cola! definitely worth a stop if you are in the area.

all good things. a combination dive bar comfort food restaurant with a great selection of brown liquor and the option for sweet potato fries or fried green beans for yoursandwichside? okay, i'll go there at least once every trip i make to columbus.

the pot roast (entree w/ a slice of molasses/pumpernickel bread orsandwichon a pretzel roll) is killer. sandwiches from a veggie muffaletta w/ portobello and sprouts to a chicken salad with honey and shallots are all over the taste-bud-satisfying-board. sides and sauces are great as sides and sauces or snacks on their own. the veggie corn chowder is solid every day and the du jour in a bowl has been a rotating bit of "get that, you'll like it" too.

amazingly friendly staff all seem to like it that customers like their spot.

always good!. i love coming here for lunch, although who doesn't, and it's a nice place to stop and get a cocktail after work too. their beer list is extensive, their cocktails are strong, and their food will leave you satisfied and planning your next trip back. my favorite is their ham & cheesesandwichon a pretzel roll (you'll have to pay extra for the roll, but well worth it) and sweet potato fries on the side! it's all delicious!

pot roast !!. go here. immediately. and order the pot roast. get the dinner (a huge portion of tender meat over potatoes, carrots, celery, etc) instead of thesandwich(on a pretzel bun with cheese. this is probably the best meal i have had under $20 (it cost $11 actually). it is sooo tender and tasty.

also of note are the fried green bean appetizer (comes with 2 great dipping sauces) and a wonderful beer selection.

the place is small and usually packed, so weeknights are better if you dont feel like waiting. parking also stinks because it is on busy gay street with not many spots available. staff are friendly and helpful. prices are fair. i love this place and will go back many many times.

i finally made it to tip top! everything on the menu looked amazing! i had the pot roastsandwichw/ sweet potato fries, my boyfriend had the breakfast burrito. they both were yummy. pot roast is not something that i would normally order, but i've always heard how good it was and it comes on a pretzel roll. the fries were really good, they came with a sriracha dip. the breakfast burrito was really good, it had their awesome red bean hummus in it. i can't wait to go back and try something else. we went on a sunday around 11:30 and were seated immediately, when we left there was a line of about 15 people waiting, so go early.

a fave!. on of my favorite places to go! great food and a great selection of beer on tap. i always enjoy their macaroni and cheese, sweet potato fries, and monte cristosandwich(but not all at once). i have always had good service and enjoy myself with a date or friends.

pot roast sandwich. the pot roastsandwichis my favoritesandwichin town. i usually start craving it at least once a month. i often upgrade to the sweet potato fries instead of chips, but you can't go wrong either way.

very bad service. three friends and i arrived at noon on a sunday and were seated within a minute. our server, whose name is sever (bald), took our order within about 15 mins around 12:15 (long time for ordering, but not my main complaint). at 12:35 i asked him when we would receive our food as several of us were very hungry having not eaten that day yet. he indicated it was slow because a large party had put their order in before us (about 10-12 people in that party, who had been seated at least 5 mins after us). at 12:45 i asked again (now 30 mins after ordering), he said it would be 5 mins. meanwhile i saw other people who had been seated after us get food. the table next to us that had ordered just a couple minutes before us had eaten and left. after 10 more minutes i said can you at least bring us a snack we are starving. he returned with one 1/2 slice of brownsandwichbread for four people!sandwichbread! i gave it back immediately and said i don't want this, he took it and said nothing, did not offer anything else. about 1:03 we finally got our food. a full hour after sitting down. not once did he advise us of the problem, we had to ask every single time. he indicated he would give us a "sizeable discount" but only took 25% off our bill. i thought the meals should be complimentary, at the very least half off. we were at this time in a rush as we were all going to a viewing for our friends' father-in-law, so i did not have time to speak with a manager. but i can say this is the worst service i've ever received in columbus. clearly the guy had forgotten to turn in our order. we were not asking anything except straight off the menu. even if there was a huge problem in the kitchen (which i saw food leaving the kitchen all the time as we were seated right by it), he should have told us and not made us ask repeatedly. offered to bring us an appetizer, something! and after an hour that meal should have been free. reallly after 45 mins it should have been free. i can say i am reluctant to return. one of us was trying it for the first time and she said, ok, wont' be going there again. i sent a note to tip top and got no reply, further demonstrating they lack even basic customer service.

i picked this restaurant based upon its urbanspoon rating - and we all loved it. even with a 20+ minute wait, it was worth it. agree with previous post that the feta and veggie app was delicious. the salmon was great, the tilapia was wonderful, and the pot roastsandwichwas perfect (especially with the upgraded side of carrots). the pretzel roll bun just makes the sandwich. all the portions were generous and the prices were reasonable. and the atmosphere was ideal - cozy, historic, quaint, local, friendly. we would definitely come again on a return trip to columbus.
