i figured it was about time i check out the wizardingworldof harry potter at islands of adventure. more importantly in respect to this blog, i had lunch at the new three broomsticks restaurant within the park's new land. i'm not totally up on my harry potter trivia, but i suppose the three broomsticks is a restaurant in the village of hogsmead in the j.k. rowling books. three broomsticks served the same chicken/rib/turkey leg platters seen elsewhere in the parks, along with several british items. i ordered the shepard's pie, served with a side salad. the pie tasted good, although the vegetables normally found in shepard's pies, namely peas and carrots, were completely missing. pea soup was also ordered at our table. along with cornish pasties. these were like a british version of an empanada. also served with a salad, i preferred these to my shepard's pie. since this was a british restaurant, someone had to order the stereotypical english food and get the fish & chips. i tried a piec

dining at three broomsticks is more about a total immersion into the wizardingworldof harry potter. the food is primarily simple comfort food with some english flair. there is a full bar, but nothing beats butterbeer which exceeds all expectations!

with two kids who are obsessed with harry potter, we had to hit the brand new wizardingworldof harry potter at universal this past summer. it was a wonder for the kids to see one of their favorite stories come to life. they have done a great job of hogwarts but i found everything was made a little too small – i think they grossly underestimated the popularity of this world. in any case here are some of the food spots we hit whilst at harry potter world.
well you have to try it. it’s pretty yummy! you can get the frozen version or just the regular chilled one. they come is special commemorative mugs for a cost or just plain plastic cups.

posted on 11:22 pm by jenny lu 0 ahh, sorry for being unproductive these days, it’s very hard to manage time when school’s been busy again so i have to share some of my productivity to school work instead of blog writing. updates will be slow, but i promise i will write whenever i have time!  after 2 long days at disney world, we headed straight to universal studios without taking a day off. trust me, it’s never a good idea to go to different theme parks in a row. vacation is all about being happy and comfortable! well… the only upside about it was that i got to have some extra calories to eat more food!  hmmm anyways, what is the first thing that comes to your mind when you think of universal studios orlando? i don’t know about you, but the wizardingworldof harry potter was the only reason that we planned this stop since we’ve been to 2 universal studios already.  and of course if you are at diagon alley or hogsmeade, you have to try the trio’s favourite drink: butter beer!  *found at every food services at both locations of the hpworlddon’t worry, butter beer is 100% non-alcoholic , it’s actually just cream soda, but really good ones. we tried it in 3 different forms: the regular butter beer($3.99usd 4/5), the frozen butter beer ($4.99usd 5/5) and the butter bear ice cream ($4.99usd 3/5), the regular butter beer is a bit cheaper than the other 2, but i strongly recommend the frozen butter beer.

part 1 of the recap of my orlando theme park adventure with ever awesome friend 'curses' covered  walt disneyworld.  part 2 of course, as a huge harry potter geek, is all about universal studios orlando - or rather, the wizardingworldof harry potter at universal studios. first challenge : getting there.  with all the convenience of free shuttles within and between walt disneyworldproperties, the major disadvantage of staying at a disney resort for those who want to visit other theme parks - is there is no easy way to get to other venues via public transportation.  it would take hours with lots of walking and several different bus routes.  luckily, after some research, i found a shuttle service (mears) that picks up at any disney hotel and takes you to universal studios for $19 a person roundtrip.  you just have to make a reservation the night before your visit - we took the 8:10am shuttle and it was about an hour and a half ride door to door in a tour bus, including all the stops

not too shabby!. this was a nice departure from the standard park food you usually find in the middle of a theme park! my husband and i stopped for lunch here both days we were in universal. i had the cornish pasties both times (i couldn't help it). it was nice to have a salad with my meal instead of something fried. my husband had the shepherd's pie one day and the turkey leg the next. he enjoyed both, but was a little disappointed that the skin on the turkey leg was a tad rubbery. the leg certainly had plenty of meat on it though!

love the attention to detail paid throughout the wizardingworldof harry potter. the ghost's shadow that randomly appears near the peak of the roof in the restaurant is almost as clever as moaning myrtle's voice in the bathrooms!

hollaback hogsmeade. i wouldn't dream of going anywhere else when visiting the wizardingworldof hp, but this fare was actually exceptional. i ordered fish and chips (super fresh, crisp breading and ahhhhhmazing tartar sauce) and my husband got the chicken and ribs platter... fall off the bone and super skillfully smoked. we topped it off with butter beer - regular brew and frozen, it just absolutely exceeded my expectations. the staff was so cheerful and helpful, especially jack who gave us the ultimate heads up on dining times. my mind is blown and my belly is happy.

the yummy is tasty but not.... the yummy food is tasty but not earth shattering. but let's be honest: are we really here for the food? this replica of the harry potter pub at universal orlando's wizardingworldof harry potter comes straight out of the books, and must be included in a day at the islands of adventure. and honestly, you won't be sacrificing a good meal.

in honor of the release of harry potter and the deathly hollows part ii's release, i thought i'd do a write up on my first experience with butterbeer. one of the most exciting parts of visiting universal studios earlier this year was visiting the wizardingworldof harry potter. one minute in this new land and we felt like we had left universal studios. every detail was made to feel like a realistic representation of the harry potter franchise. you can read more about the park on my travel blog carlos abroad . we really wanted to try the butterbeer that everyone was raving about. there were stands around the park where you could line-up to buy some, but my friend suggested we visit the three broomsticks restaurant and avoid the lines. this strategy proved successful and within minutes we were ordering food and picking up our butterbeer. there were two kinds of butterbeer and i decided to go with the frozen butterbeer (my theme park guru friend recommended it), in addition to a turkey l

surprisingly good. visited the wizardingworldof harry potter in august of 2010. i was really surprised that the food at three broomsticks was so good! most of the time food at theme parks isn't so great... i also thought the frozen butterbeer was better than the liquid version. the dessert (apple pie?) wasn't nearly as good as the regular food.

what a blast. eating in amusement parks can be iffy. the parks in orlando do a pretty good job overall, but you still have to forgive a good bit if you eat in the "faster" type of eateries available.

enter the three broomsticks and hog's head tavern.

eating here would be worth it just to take in the detail that lets you immerse yourself in theworldof harry potter. the place is wonderful and full of atmosphere. the tap room at the hog's head end has several draft beers available including guinness, boddington's, strongbow cider and their own hog's head brew (think killian's irish red).

my kids are hp freaks and a great feast with butterbeers all around was something this dad wouldn't have missed. the butter beer is unique and shouldn't be missed. i found it too sweet to have with dinner, but the kids loved it. now, we get to the food.

the feast comes served for four and each person has a 1/4 roasted chicken, a small rack of ribs (4 bones), roasted potatoes and peppers, broccoli, and an ear of corn with the shuck pulled back. extra servings are about $12.50 per person.

this food really surprised me. other than needing a little salt, it was very tasty and could have been served outside the park in a successful restaurant. again, a big part of this place is the atmosphere, but the food plays along well with your imagination.

the service was good and i was amazed at how many people they are able to accommodate in an hour. makes mcd's look like a cake walk.

plan to eat here with or without kids. immerse yourself and have a good time.

three broomsticks is the quick-service restaurant (and only restaurant) inside ioa's wizardingworldof harry potter. it is located right in the heart of hogsmeade village. and to answer a very common question up front: there are no reservations; its first-come-first-serve. yeah the food is fne but look where you are! to be perfectly honest, eating at three broomsticks is not about getting incredible food. the three broomsticks experience is about enjoying a meal inside what is perhaps the most detailed, near-authentic, better-than-movie-quality set and atmosphere inside the wizarding world. so while your shepherd's pie, cornish pasty, and soft drink are going to taste like the food from any quick-service restaurant, the striking decor and decorations in three broomsticks are like nothing you can see anywhere in the world. other than hogwarts castle, this restaurant is as close as you can get to being in harry's world. fun
