go there now. maybe my new favourite restaurant. the food and drink menu was fantastic the day my husband and i visited (they each change all the time apparently), i was especially impressed with the beer menu, which was two pages long!
we ordered the devils on horseback, apple and bacon poutine, salmon two ways, and some salted candied cashews. i don't have as accurate a memory when it comes to what we ordered for beer though, for some reason.
the devils on horseback were a gamble, the name isn't exactly self-explanatory. but a quick explanation from the server revealed them to be cheese-stuffed dates wrapped in bacon; sold. they were a little too sweet for my husband's tastes, but i devoured the ones he didn't want. they were awesome.
speaking of bacon, the apple bacon poutine was also awesome. baby potatoes cut in two with julienne apple slices, squeaky cheese curds, and the biggest bacon chunks i've ever seen off of a pig, drizzled in gravy.
the salmon two ways wasn't as big a hit as the first two dishes for my husband and i, probably because our palettes were conditioned for grease and gravy by then, neither of which appear in the salmon dish. it was good, but maybe not in that sequence of dishes. the 'two ways' are as a citrus ceviche and wrapped in a rice paper (this might also change daily).
the cashews did not disappoint, however, so three out of four ain't bad. a generous plate of cashews tossed in a salty sweet coating and cooked (baked?) to crunchy yet yielding perfection.
the couple of drawbacks to this place are that it's pretty small, and the ever-changing menu might hinder them more than help. it's a shame that the menus change as often as they do because most of what we ordered are, in my humble opinion, keepers. hopefully they play around with what's popular, and keep the poutine forever.
