very nice customer service. chicken salad was ok, but i'm picky. my friend got the sandwich with peanut butter, apples and bananas and it was really good.
they serve breakfast all day.

hurry up and wait!. the village cafe may be a wonderful place to eat. i don't know yet, because i'm still waiting for my food after waiting for an hour. this place is ill equipped to handle customers on a football game weekend. "i'm sorry for the wait" only goes so far before it becomes meaningless drivel.

a favorite. i love the food at the village. it's a great break from a lot of the fried/barbecue/chain restaurants you find in bcs. i really enjoy the fresh, local ingredients.

the tomato basil soup is my all-time favorite here. it's has large chunks of tomatoes and feels really hearty with onions and garlic. i also love the peanut butter/banana/honey/cinnamon sandwhich, even though my husband says they should consider that dessert!

if you're not a salad eater (i'm not), go for the fruit plate. it's fresh, ripe, and has a lot of variety.

what happened to this place..... made a visit to the "newly remodeled" village cafe in downtown bryan today and am now wondering why. though the place looks better, the food/service have been remodeled as well and not for the better. sandwich arrived on dry, stale wheat bread. avocado consisted of a 1/8 x 1/2 inch slice of avocado. when companion asked for more for the three of us whose sandwiches had little to none, the sullen counter person said "extra" could be provided. where was the normal amount in the first place? side greek salad was soggy and overdrenched in dressing. accompanying bread was stale as well. sandwich/chips/salad and a bottled coke came in at $16. for that price, i can get the abuse elsewhere and more and fresher food.

we had the exact same bad experience as molly. with my daughter, her roommate and my mom. the only problem was that the girl at the counter decided to charge my debit card again for another meal. i guess we did not tip her enough. except i have always believed that you tip after they serve you-not before we are waited on. you order and pay first. it took forever and one of us never had our meal. when it was finally served-it was not that good and our sandwiches were not heated as requested. waiting to hear from owner. will let you know how that goes.

fresh menu. they've recently expanded their menu to include vegan and gluten-free options, as well as pizzas! the food here is always quality and fresh, my favorites being their breakfast burrito and eggplant panini. some of the best tomato soup i've ever had, and great choice of healthy sides (i tend to get the roasted potatoes). the interior changes almost monthly so there's always something interesting to talk about over your meal. if you live in bcs you have to try this place at least once, one a sunny weekend day maybe; there's something for everyone.

terrible experience. this morning i decided to take my family (in town for ring day) to all have brunch here... i was appalled at how rude the staff was multiple times. after being treated terribly and talked down to-- the food came out well below par. the girl that helped us was the rudest person i have ever encountered in my life. she practically threw the plate of food at my grandmother from across the table resulting in her quiche flopping over on her plate. the scone we ordered tasted like stale biscuits and the burrito was disgraceful--not a single bit of goat cheese like it was supposed to have. for the price of the food the quality was extremely lacking. i will never be returning here and will steer all my friends and family away from ever eating at the village.

good food, poor service. the mrs & i have been here a few times. the prices are high and the service a little slow, but those are factors we are willing to accept for what was in our opinion a nice break from the standard bcs fare. however, our most recent trip was our last.

we came in at lunch on a rainy weekday afternoon and were prepared to wait in the standard long lines and deal with slightly slower than par service. after ordering, the college student / hippie at the register paused a moment and stared at the tip jar then back to us. as i was raised, tips are allocated after the transaction is complete - as in when i finish my meal. if service was good the customer has the option to reward hard work with additional funds. tips are not obligatory. we were getting take out, so the end of the transaction in this case would be when we left the establishment with our to-go box. apparently not tipping before receiving our order rubbed the help the wrong way. the clerk's demeanor changed from polite to snotty. our order came very late, cold and short a sandwich.

to sum it up, the staff at village acts like a bunch of spoiled brats with a sense of entitlement. service is slow and the prices are too high. we will not return.

fresh food, relaxing & eclectic atmosphere. this place is a real gem. i have now been there four times and have yet to have anything that i didn't like...and they have salads--as sides! the food is fresh, healthy, and really embraces veggies. the staff are very friendly, they play wonderful music, and have daily selection of iced teas, which is always exciting.

it also is an art gallery and they change the artwork monthly (i think?). its refreshing and fun to see what they are going to put up next. also a great place to grab a cup of coffee and read a book...nice comfy couches, chairs, etc.

pretty much, if you haven't been here yet you're missing out on a uniquely wonderful experience in the bcs area.

a favorite hangout. just moving from houston and loving all things city, i was so excited to find this urban, contemporary art cafe. not only is the atmosphere eclectic and chic, the food is delicious while still being healthy! i also love the fact that the village supports all things local. nice job, village!
