smalltintables!. i wish my experience at thetintable went better than it did. we came to this place because it was in the same building for a show we were going to, homo 4 the holidays and i had this place bookmarked too. i had not eaten all day and was starving. these semi fancy places often have small portions or tapas sized dishes so i asked the server how big the menu item i was eying was. i wanted medium sized portions. she said it was on the lighter side but was entree sized. what i was eying was the butternut squash gnocchi. so i went ahead and ordered it.
i guess i don't know what entree sized means or maybe the restaurant doesn't. to me the portion was tapas bar sized.
the gnocchi was good. no doubt about that but there wasn't enough of it! no sides, salads or soups came with this either so i couldn't quite justify why this small entree cost $16.00.
steve got a ravioli and a dessert. yes. both of those tasted good but were very small in portions as well and overpriced. i knowtintable gets all of their ingredients locally and the place is fairly artisan in what it does but i still think it is way overpriced for what you get.
after dining here i read other yelp reviews and read the reviews that were in the form of a complaint. some of the arguments also complained about the portions on their vegan options (which is what we had) but said their menu items that involved meat were much larger like their steak or hamburgers for example.
i thinktintable is best suited for drinks and maybe a snack however don't expect to get a cheaper meal if a snack is all you are looking for.

after a play at the erickson we walked 2 blocks up pine to try thetintable. since we didn't have reservations we were taken to seats at "the"tintable which sits twelve people but is only set for four couples at the tables four corners. we ordered drinks and the shoe string frites as an appetiser. the thinly cut fries were served in a pint beer glass and were delicious. the server gave us plenty of time to enjoy or drinks and frites before ordering dinner. i ordered the compressed pork and my wife ordered the fish of the day - ling cod. both dishes were tasty, enough and dishes we would order again. for dessert we ordered the french press coffee and the cardamom donuts. another hit! this is going to be one of our favourite places to eat on capitol hill. the price was reasonable too.

thetintable moved into the oddfellows building on capitol hill a few years ago.  you probably are familiar with the building as the home of long-time tenant, the century ballroom, or the streetside oddfellows cafe. the second floor location of thetintable may not have street appeal but that hasn’t kept it from becoming immensely popular and with good reason. on a recent thursday i met friends there for an early dinner. when we arrived a couple of people sat at the bar, another in a cozy nook off the main entrance, but the dining room was empty so i was surprised when we asked for a table and ended up in the back room. not that the back room is bad, in fact it’s a nice quiet place to dine with friends and the windows keep it from being claustrophobic. that lull in the dining room seating was only temporary. i could hear the tables filling as we dined and by the time we left there wasn’t an empty table.

the food attintable is pretty good. the menu is new american and choices range from casual to sophisticated. i enjoyed the halibut, short rib, and rabit ragu (swagu). chickpea fritters are amazing and opt in for cheese tots. desserts were done nicely, biegnets, a giant smore with a pie, and the parfait like dish. to add, they also of have good cocktails though i don’t remember since i had comsumed them quickly.

very disappointed. my husband and i were looking forward to dinner at thetintable, having heard good things about it. imagine our shock when not only was the service terrible, so was the food.. starting with the service, upon arrival our host was welcoming what appeared to be a group her friends to the restaurant. we were left standing for several minutes without so much as a glance while she caught up with her friends. a simple, "i'll be with you in a moment" would have sufficed. once seated it soon became obvious our server was completely bored. she yawned while taking our order and when our appetizers arrived she also put down a check for another table with their credit card! to top it all off i ordered a glass of wine before the entree that just never arrived...ok so on to the food. we thought the menu quite uninspired and lacking any direction. shanghi ribs (china), cassoulet(france), burger (usa), ravioli (italian), fish tacos (tex mex) oh and it goes on. maybe if the chef concentrated on one style and did it well the food would be better? i ordered the arugula salad to start - a pile of leaves, most of which had cleverly escaped the dressing, with a mound of very cheap finely grated parmesan on top - parmesan, pecorino etc should be shaved onto cold dishes and grated onto hot, a small thing but illustrating my earlier point that if the chef concentrated on one style of cuisine, say italian in this case, then he would know this.

my husband ordered the salt cod fritters and they were the highlight of the night, being decidedly average. for main course i ordered the the shanghai ribs, which were luke warm and smothered in what tasted like bought in sauce. my husband ordered the burger, medium. it was very pink and bloody and nearer to rare than medium. one of the worst things about this restaurant in terms of food is the absolutely horrible "shoestring" fries. the are very thin (ok obviously they are shoestring) and taste entirely of cooking oil. the addition of truffle salt fails to rescue this skinny obscenity. if you deep fried some bits of sting, i imagine the effect would be similar. we cut our losses and left after the mains so i have no idea what the desserts are like.. well there we go - complete disaster, we won't be back.

yum!. i really lovetintable -- great, cozy atmosphere and very accommodating service. even without reservations i've never had to wait long for a table, which is a nice change of pace. they have a really nice cocktail and wine list and the servers are very knowledgeable about the food and drinks. their rose prosecco is divine (i'm partial to bubble though..)very unpretentious and lovely waitstaff. came with another friend and our waitress (whose name escapes me -- maybe nicole?) was so friendly and treated us to a couple of free dishes! the charcuterie plate is delicious, as is the octopus and mushroom risotto. however, the mozzarella and anchovy appetizer is way too salty. that's my only complaint. and how fun is it to watch the dancing classes happening across the way -- one day i'll be brave enough to go there afterwards...

ask questions before ordering. i was super excited to visit thetintable after hearing great things, but after eating there last saturday i have a sour taste in my mouth. i will recommend it to people, but will also recommend to proceed with caution.

i ordered four items, two being the octopus and the chantrelle risotto. neither menu description noted the factors that would have otherwise steered me clear of choosing them: the octopus were mini and whole with the heads attached as well as the eyes. i am used to shrimp being prepared that way, but never octopus. the risotto should really be called "white truffle risotto," as it was smothered in white truffle oil-not my cup 'o tea. many people enjoy it, but being such a strong flavor i expected the menu to at least give it mention.

finally, a place that prides themselves in their drink-making ability is best not to put a maraschino cherry in a manhattan.

i left disappointed and feel that there are far superior restaurants in the city.

cool new place w/ good eats. saw a favorable review oftintable in the stranger and so thought i would try it out. we went on a sunday and the place was moderately filled with caphill hipsters.tintable has a great ambiance, keeping much of the feel of the old odd fellows hall but updated to give it a cool, contemporary look.

the wine list had good selections and the malbec i ordered was tasty.tintable has a good selection of cheeses and we ordered the cheese plate for an appitizer for $10.00. everything on the plate was yummy and the cheeses well paired with apples, honey walnuts and honey comb.

i ordered thai ribs and my partner ordered the burger and shoe string fries for entries. both were under $13.00. the food came quickly. the ribs were delicious -- meaty, hot, spicy, and topped with cilantro. the burger, topped with bacon, was also a hit and the fries had a salty seasoning that made them extra tasty.

we ended our meal with a lemon pound cake and a french-press decaf coffee. the cake was the only dud of the night - too dry and heavy w/o enough tart lemon pop (though the coffee was excellent).

the other minor glitch was that our waitress was a little inattentive for my tastes. i felt that things could have moved along more quickly.

overall, we had a great meal and a great time at thetintable. i was suprised at how reasonable the prices seemed and we could easily have eaten well and spent a little less. we will definately go back.
