on wednesday, i had the pleasure of checking out the rice den, one of the trendiest asian joints i have ever experienced – and one of the tastiest and flavoursome asian meals i’ve ever had. the rice den brings some serious freshness and vitality to dining options to chatswood, a suburb located just north of the harbour bridge.

nice idea but doesn't quite live up to expectation. a lot of deep frying, and overall, felt heavy and stodgy. apple and barramundi salad was a revelation though.

funky. run by young out going team, dig the music back from 70's. kinda strange. young good looking waitress wearing a club 21 (term used to refer to popular musicians who have died at the age of 27) with t-shirt (brian jones, jimi hendrix, janis joplin, jim morrison, kurt cobain. it was more like a hang for their friends judging for the people coming and going.
ok about the food, it was tasty, off beat to authentic recipes but done well..

fantastic. the food was exquisite! wakame salad, salt 'n' pepper squid, chicken 'n' sweet corn soup, duck wonton soup and steamed dim sum all something to rave about. the service was prompt, efficient, and friendly.

not impressed. terrible food, overpriced and staff were rude and unattentive. concerned more about the $ you have in your pocket then attending to your needs

will not return

we ordered the red duck curry, salt and pepper eggplant, fried lotus root with rice. dishes were pleasant. i particularly enjoyed the duck with lychee. the ventilation was bad, we left the restaurant smelling like it. acoustics weren't great as i found myself going hoarse from having to speak in a raised voice throughout dinner. service is good.

$10 lunch special .. say what? how can u go wrong walking in here at lunch time . had the duck curry with lychee . delicious combo (and howvery exotic) you can add a side + drink for extra 4ish dollars . my side was chicken sate skewers which were grilled to perfection and came with a moreish peanut sauce that had a hint of chilli . the waitress was also very friendly and efficient. i ended up feeling so happy and satisfied. definitely going back

this place is the greatest. $10 lunch deals are great value, food is tasty and more inventive than your average asian fare. loved the hot and sour soup and cheong fun in particular. perfect lunch spot.

yum - fresh!. so good. quick, fresh food with heaps of interesting options - not just all the tire-old 'noodle/asian favourites'.
a breath of fresh air.
good amount of seating for small groups or pairs.
been 3 times, will be back!

just like every other time i’ve been here, tonight i am very satisfied by my meal. the rice den is one of the few restaurants who can do great asian fusion food with interesting combinations that taste fantastic. and a plus is that it is affordable too! if you’re looking for a change from the typical chinese fare that clutters chatswood (but still want asian food), the rice den is a good way to start.

i have dined here several times and i have never been dissapointed. the rice den is a small restaurant with a relaxed vibe. the decor and the service makes this place stand out in chatswood. the prices are perfect for people who want to eat delicious food on a budget. i recommend the duck with chilli & plum jam, steamed greens and a helping of black sticky rice for dessert.

a good meal isn't just about good food; customer service, atmosphere and pricing are just some of the important factors. my recent visit to rice den had all the ticks. the restaurant is really small, however i liked it so much more because of the fact that it was small because it gave it that warm and cosy feel. singaporean rice noodles for such a small restaurant, their menu was quite extensive because they had different types of noodles, rice, desserts, soups, salads and they even had a long specialty list. speaking of specialty, the house specialty which is a deep fried barramundi is a must. by glancing at the table next to us, it looked amazing. deep fried salt & pepper squid - $9 hot & sour soup - $7 the salt and pepper squid was a good idea for a cold winter's night. there wasn't too much batter nor was it drowned in salt and pepper. the most impressive thing was that it wasn't too oily unlike most other squids you would find elsewhere. the hot and sour soup was well balanced bet
