my rating for this place is actually 4.5 but unfortunately zomato does whole number ratings now :/ thericeden was a pleasant surprise! at the end of the day it is asian food, but the flavours and taste are so refined and on point! if you are looking for a place which doesn't disappoint this is it! it is on the north shore and a bit overpriced for the serving size, but the quality, taste and customer service is great which makes up for it making it an enjoyable place to dine, especially for a special occasion! it is a bit fancy but not fine dining and not totally casual, in between.

i was pleasantly surprised by my visit toriceden. seeking a nice place for a work lunch, we had walked past this place a few times. but the small and seemingly overpriced menu deterred my patronage on more than one occasion.
when we finally went last week, i was met with courteous, attentive staff.
the food: though a small menu everything was delicious and of a high quality. we ordered soft shell crab w vermicelli, smoked chicken n glass noodle salad, chicken croquettes, cheong fun. my favourite was the soft shell crab.
overall: pricing is steep but we used an entertainment card which made it very worth while for the quality of the food. i would consider returning and would order any of the above dishes again.

creative, modern chinese food is often either disappointing in flavour or grossly overpriced.riceden however is moderately priced and a lot of their dishes are just simple twists on classics. food here is quality, i have been here several times and will definitely be back for more. great ambience for date nights, even though the food is better suited for sharing. service is also quite good

i’ve been here on multiple occasions. the food is very consistent fusion cantonese, above average although not spectacular.

thericeden catered well for our table of 10 with multiple dietary requirements. we chose the 46pp banquet and there was enough food. the food was served at a good pace.

the wine list here is excellent without a huge mark up. cocktails were good.

service was very good until it got a bit busy and there weren’t enough waitstaff.

would highly recommend if you work or live in the neighbourhood.

as someone who have lived in hong kong for more than half of my life, thericeden is a trendy restaurant in sydney that actually does traditional chinese food (+ a bit of a twist) decently.

we got the $46pp banquet menu for the night. the two dishes that really stood out are the bbq pork neck and the calamari rings. the biggest critic i have was that the chicken and the fish were slightly overcooked and the portion size should have been slightly larger.

ordered:
1. traditional hand made cheong fun - i like their sauce and it goes well with thericeflat noodle
2. bbq pork neck - this is so good, not a lot of fat which is what i preferred. the colour is not the artificial red you see at a lot of hong kong bbq restaurants
3. calamari - soggy, i did not like this dish
4. barramundi - i love the sauce, kept adding the sauce to myriceand eating it non stop
5. garlic prawn on the special menu - i like the garlic sauce, this place really knows how to make their sauces yummy
6. steamed bok choy - steamed not stir fried which is healthy and tasty
7. vanilla coconut cream sago - too sweet that i couldn’t finish it, was hoping it was a refreshing dessert but it wasn’t

will i go back: yes

as a hong kong blogger, i personally am super excited about this restaurant called "thericeden" and it is possibly one of my most intimidated reviews ever. thericeden, with a direct translated cantonese name applied to it, is a hidden gem in st. leonards suburb, about 20 mins away from the city on the north side, and 5 mins walk from the train station.

i was rather disappointed with the food at thericeden after hearing all the good reviews here.

besides the sesame cheong fun tasted interesting, the rest were badly done. for instance, the wanton was so badly wrapped that some parts of the wanton skin was hard and uncooked.

the friedriceshould be called the charred rice. the chef was unable to control the fire and much of thericebecame charred and tasted like soot.

the bbq pork was another dish which was badly prepared. in order to make nice bbq pork, it would be best to skewer the pork meat, marinate them longer and add a lot more honey, caramel and soy, and constantly turn them over a grill. putting inside an oven does not constitute to bbq!!

for those who really think the food here atriceden is good, i would suggest that you make a short trip to bali, singapore, bangkok or any where in asia to try their home-cooked or street food. i bet they taste much better and 10 times cheaper.

i wouldn't describe the dishes i had here as canton cuisine. very much fusion. lots of things to like about this place (service, decor, presentation of food), yet i left dissatisfied with my dinner. can't quite pinpoint why though. maybe a little because of the serving sizes, especially that of sake and ponzu salmon and beef tataki (i should mention though that the salmon was delicate and beef soft, dressing on salmon was well balanced, herbs and onions in beef tataki gave it beautiful freshness). maybe because the kung pao chicken and chilli sesame pork was described as having vegetables yet there was only a tiny amount of diced bits, maybe because those 2 dishes were so sweet when i expected more chilli/ spice (the pork did have a nice crunchy batter and the chicken was well cooked). the spring rolls were nicely fried and the lamb filling was tasty but a little too much spring roll pastry to filling for my liking.ricewas also done well. perfect consistency (not too dry, not too stodgy), but not enough ingredients through it. would like to give this place higher score but for some reason it just didn't do it for me as an overall experience.

it is a crime i did not write this article before the year’s end. realistically this venue should be in my top 10. it served me one of my favourite dishes of 2016. the good news is that so far it is my number one venue of 2017.

thericeden is affordable and in a great venue, although the area it is situated is a bit of a dull dead-spot at night. the staff are lovely and the food and drink game is some of the best i have eaten in the last year. get into it.

thericeden is conveniently situated only a few minutes walk away from st leonard’s station, serving up an interesting take on cantonese cuisine. we’ve wanted to visit this small restaurant for a while and my girlfriend decided that my birthday would be as good an occasion as any so she made the booking on dimmi and we were set for the evening.
