the rice den

love it everytime!. my mates and i love this place. we go every few weeks, and have done since it opened, and the consistency of service and food is always amazing :) never leave!!

been here a couple of times, love it! service is great (especially the main guy- cool, friendly and chatty). don't usually like fusion asian food as it tends to lack authenticity, but they really nail it here. so far we have loved the soft shell crab noodles, duck pancakes and green tea fried ice cream! will definitely be back!

friendly staff and the food are quite good. i had tried the tomyam fried rice and steam cheung fun and both turn out very good. will definately go there afain and try other food on the menu

did not have a good food experience here and will not be back again, despite the trendy vibe. we tried to go for the few 'healthier' options, steering clear of deep fried stuff or fried rice/noodles. big mistake. stirfry consisted of mostly bean sprouts and specks of 4-5 small pieces of greens - cheap ingredients you can put together. other seafood and soup dishes were either bland or overly sweet/salty - with very small portions. only decent dish was the edamame - you can get this anywhere though. maybe all the fried stuff would be ok to order judging by the look of them on all the food blogs, but this place did not do it for us in terms of freshness, taste or value. won't be back.

staff are friendly and attentive. great atmosphere for a casual date night or catch up with friends. food was nice. pad thai definitely stood out, it was just like the pad thai i had over in thailand! cute place, would go again.

excellent service. a little trendy restaurant. decent serving size, good vibe, and most importantly, excellent service. recommended!

lunch. ate here earlier this week. had the prawn soldiers, chicken kebabs, mi goreng fried rice and fried (green tea, vanilla) ice-cream. good quality food. good portion size for $$.

nice restaurant. they do slight modern twists on asian style food. the lamb pancakes were delicious and the angus steak was great. they have crocodile on the menu which we did not try but looked interesting.

trendy thai. the rice den has a very funky and trendy atmosphere with friendly and attentive staff. the curries are full flavoured and their small dish/entree selection is very good with a few things on their menu that i haven't seen anywhere else like tempura quail eggs, crispy battered eggplant and lamb spring rolls.

without a doubt, the rice den is one of my favourite restaurants. you step into the tiny place and it doesn't feel at all like you're in chatswood anymore. it's hip and very happening, perhaps somewhere in newtown or surry hills. the vibe is fresh and modern. the food is out of this world, the flavours are bold, punchy and it's very difficult not to return. it incorporates classical south-east asian flavours with more modern notes, making them come alive and suitable for this hipster day and age. i'm so happy when my girlfriends ask me to choose the restaurant to go for our catch-up. it's been too long since i've been to the rice den and i'm seriously deprived of their flavoursome food. i even know what we're going to have before we're even there. this ensures we can order quickly, food can arrive as soon as possible and we can take our time enjoying each of their creations.  tom yum fried rice, $13.00 first up is the tom yum fried rice.  for those who do not like lemongrass , stay cle

...proceeded to bite into the quail eggs. they were quite enjoyable, encased in a light crisp batter and accompanied by sweet teriyaki sauce drizzled over the top (it was so tasty that we wished that they had given us more sauce). definitely a must try for people who love their egg yokes!

the two times i have visited the restaurant have most definitely been positive experiences. the laid back yet cool atmosphere is backed by some funky beats and i personally adore the vintage asian posters as wallpaper. the staff are always charismatic and quick to attend creating some sort of intimacy. the food is always tasty, strong flavours and very edible. i would definitely recommend this little hidden gem.
