so sad.... i really wanted to like this place. i love cool old historic buildings and i love jazz, so what's not to like here? too much!
this is indeed a beautiful old building but whoever decorated this place didn't do the old building any favors. the worst part was the ugly worn out carpeting covering most of the floor. who puts carpet in a restaurant/bar? i'm guessing this contributed to the less-than-fresh aroma.
while we were there, there was a 60ish gentleman playing the piano and singing, but he certainly wasn't playing jazz tunes--no, instead we were treated to the worst of the 70s and 80s mellow rock. it was just abysmal.
but nothing compares to the food. the food was just bad. we had the crab cakes which were processed frozed patties that had been deep fat fried into crunchy little hockey pucks. ick. we also ordered mediterranean wraps. the wraps were small and were supposed to have feta cheese and olives, among other ingredients, but were essentially just lettuce inside a wrapper. we each found one olive slice in our entire wraps and the amount of feta cheese was negligible. the wraps came served with heaping piles of overcooked greasy cold french fries. the only thing that made my meal enjoyable was the bottle of blue moon that i washed it down with.
