the penthouse restaurant

took my husband for a special birthday dinner while we were visiting la from australia. classy restaurant with a view to die for! food &servicewas also fantastic! definitely try the charcuterie! well worth the price tag!

not worth it!. i originally made dinner reservations for 7:30pm but was running late so i called them to let them know. the said they had reservation for 8:15 so i took it. when we got there, we still had to wait 2 hours before being seated for dinner. by this time, everyone was starving. we had ordered some steaks - medium rare, which came out medium well, to well done. it was dry and tough. theservicewas okay, but the majority of the servers and front desk people are not very friendly and have a certain pretentiousness. i think they need some training in the hotel and hospitality management department. this place seems to be rated as a 4 star hotel but theserviceis about a 1 star. only good thing was my company and the hotel was quite hip and had eye appeal.

atop the hip huntley hotel, the penthouse does not disappoint with either food or the view. on a clear day from the right table you can see the waves hitting the sand at santa monica beach and the skyscrapers of downtown in one view. the massive bar is like a huge semicircular spaceship and a fun place for drinks. cocktails are quite good, especially the "dream" one which was quite spicy. the various cuts of steak are cooked nicely. vegetarian options are fewer; the eggplant dish was tasty and filling. tableserviceis attentive and courteous. where the penthouse really needs to improve is the host and hostess. they are not particularly friendly or welcoming. and once you give your name, give no direction on where to wait, leaving guests to figure it out for themselves.

really happy. my girlfriend and i are on holidays from australia and this place was recommended to us. dinner was so good we had to come back for breakfast.servicewas great and price was really reasonable for fine dining with a view.

food was very good.servicewas excellent. there was a cake cutting charge of 5.00/guest which i thought was ridiculous (i was actually overcharged). it was very loud as we were seated right by the bar. could barely hear each other. wine menu was excellent. very crowded. i'd go back again.

lovely evening. my wife took me to the penthouse restaurant for my birthday dinner. it had been on my wishlist for a while so i was pleasantly surprised. maybe i'm oldschool but i guess i almost felt overdressed in a sportcoat and slacks. anyway we were seated at what i feel may be the best seat in the house which gave us a 180 degree view of my birth city l.a. very nice. we ordered drinks, apps were their crispy duck confit and the crabcakes both dishes were pleasant and light a nice start. our main dishes were the braised spare ribs and the colorado rack of lamb with a side of the twice baked potatos. all dishes were well made and enjoyable to the palate. we finished off the meal with their berry cobbler and the taramisu and a couple of cappacino'. the meal was enjoyable and theservicepleasantly attentive. include the view to the equation and it makes for a lovely evening. we'll be back...

nice surprise. really enjoyed my recent dinner at the penthouse. from the valets to the server,servicewas excellent throughout the hotel. atmosphere is trendy without being snooty. the view is simply amazing, especially at a sunset seating. the food was top notch. had the open face grilled cheese which is served with a fried egg on top as a starter. adventurous, unique, and tasty. all other selections from the new york steak to the beef wellington special (some table side prep) were excellent. a nice surprise, sorry i've missed the penthouse before but will certainly be back.

great all around!. there was a group of 11 of us last night. we had a great time! the atmosphere is so fun! layout is perfect with the bar, views, tables. we had greatserviceand the food was exceptional! we started with all the flatbreads which were very tasty! braised ribs, chicken, fillet all had good remarks. drinks were great and came in a timely manner. major kuddos!!!
