best authentic bbq in tucson and i'm a bbq junkie. the food is the same, the location is different. i've had the sliced beef sandwich (you'll need a fork) about 2 dozen times and the hot link sandwich quite a few times. i've even had a mixed hot-link and beef custom sandwich. those 2 items are so good i haven't even dreamed of ordering anything else. thesauceis perfection in a bottle. the sides are all great, so just order what you want. the kool-aid is an awesome touch and a great way to wash down a sandwich. the guys running the place are down to earth, nice guys. locally owned and operated, no frills bbq. go there.

disgusting!. my son & i were terribly disappointed. i was expecting to bite into a delicious pulled chicken sandwich like i've enjoyed at famous dave's. we both couldn't stand the chicken after only 1 bite. something is terribly wrong: the bbqsauceor the way it's cooked. the potato salad, steak fries and candied yams were ordinary. what a wasted $24 for 2 meals!

now we know and it is good!!!. we ordered a dinner plate of chopped brisket. a mistake as we thought it would be chopped brisket but surprise!!!---it was mixed withsaucewhich kinda overpowered the brisket. our fault for not knowing what to order.

owner rhonda was friendly and told us of the history and her plans for mr. k's

a few days later we returned for some take home turkey que by the pound and it was delicious.

we'll be going back for only the meat. the sides are worse than cafeteria food.... any why do they give you sliced white bread???? why bother. how about some cornbread?

tables are big and clean ~ the set up is good and things flow nicely.

not impressed & too expensive. we at and mr. k's bbq on stone. we are a family of 4. we ordered 2 of the 2 meat platter for the 4 of us to share and spent almost $40. if each of us had purchased our own meal, it would have be $70 - $80 meal. no kids menu! i could not believe that for the price we were not given plates (eating out of the paper the meat was wrapped in), and plastic forks. as for the food, we found it dry and unseasoned, even w/ extra bbqsauceon the table where thesaucewas watery and also lacked flavor. if you are on a budget, i do not recommend this restaurant... if you want food that tastes as good or better than what you can cook yourself at home, i do not recommend this restaurant.

old one good. i love mr. k's on the south side! great food. as for the new one i sucks the food gets cold by the time you are at the table with only more coldsauceto put on. new one sucks original is some of the best i've ever had. but i will say brushfire blows them away, i think its the mesquite and pecan they use.

first time will go back. being a student at the u of a i have tried a limited amount of bbq in tucson. of course i hit up brushfire which was close to campus, but after taking a look into the back of the kitchen and seeing no smoker, pit, or even a barbecue grill for that matter. to say the least i was less then impressed. i consider my bbq experience vast considering i hail from the great state of alabama. mr. k's gets a thumbs up of approval because like all real bbq spots you can smell it from down the street. i went with a buddy of mine and i ordered the pork plate, specifically the outside meat charred with collar/turnip greens and fries came with a homemade cornmuffin wrapped in foil. the greens had small pieces of bacon in it and reminded me of some places from home. the fries were like seasoned fries, reminded me of rally's if anyone knows of it i did read online thesauceis real peppery which is true, but i appreciated the flavors which i can compare to being like a blackened taste one might find on cajun chicken and fish. consequently i had mine on the side and enjoyed it enough to dip my fries into.

it was around 2 so the place was empty, mr. k himself offered to show me the bbq he was working with. and let me tell you this thing was a beast. he said that he had bought it from the el paso bbq company, some chain restaurant here so the fire he's cooking with is definitely legit. like i said i had the pork and my friend had the ribs. we both decided we would try the brisket next time. i found out mr. ks is a texas style bbq which is known for their brisket. while admiring the smoker mr. k offereed a fresh burnt end for me of the brisket and it was delicious.

in conclusion i'd give mr. k's a 84 or 85 on a national bbq scale but in tucson that jumps up to around a 90 and worthy of a weekly bbq fix.

best bbq in tucson. real bbq evidenced by the tell-tale pink smoke ring inside the meat. the beef brisket is thinly sliced, moist and smokey, even without any sauce. the ribs fall of the bone yet have a dark sweet chewy outside. i'm drooling while writing this. i have been to most all tucson bbq places, imho this one has the smokiest tasting meat, not overwhelming, but subtle. they don't rely on theirsaucefor the bbq taste, it's already in the meat. mmmmmm!
