stepping into this pub you can feel the history of the place - it's olde worlde in a good way: dark wood, beams, uneven floors, and nautical artefacts adorn the walls. it’s only fitting – the pub is the starting point of the mayflower as it head over to colonise america. the pub was heaving on the sunday evening we headed in, so the missus and i elected to sit outside on the decking overlooking the thames. the sound of the lapping water, reminiscent of the voyage itself, was oddly ethereal a metre or so below us on the winters evening we tucked into our roasts.
thefooditself was nice enough, nothing to write home about, but equally good enough to sate an appetite and enjoy the ambience of the place. overall it’s a really nice pub, probably better for a conspiratorial drink than a full blown meal but still a piece of living history well worth experiencing if you’re ever in the area.
