the area around the cafe is still pretty bleak, but the inside of hpc will definitely cheer you up. sit where you like and take a look at their awesome breakfast menu. i ordered the toasted brioche which came topped with a garnish of bacon, bananas and cinnamon butter. my stomach and my brain were fighting over the food, "get in my belly" v "omg this is so good savour every moment." mark ordered the eggs benedict and i didn't hear a peep out of him until he had finished licking the plate. i did hear him mention that their hollandaise is "creamy" but i've noticed just about everything in new zealand tastes creamier. the hpc also has a dinner menu and serves beer and wine, so you could make this a post-work stop as well, though i highly recommend the breakfast.
what would make this place a little more authentic to me would be if they had photos of bears and honeypots to stick with the theme, rather than the nyc skyline (though, coming from nyc, i loved it).
recently the honeypot cafe began opening on mondays to give 100% of their profit towards a charity you can vote on (see their facebook page). what a great way to give back to the community as well as to serve more people their delicious food!!
