hobart is a town of about 250,000. but it aspires to being so much more. mona, henry jones hotel and glass house. the latter has a lovely location over the water and makes the most of it. the food varies from the outstanding ( pork shoulder tonkatsu, grilled egg plant with a watermelon foam, beef spareribs) to the disappointing ( tempura oyster mushrooms which were killed by a very thick batter).

the staff were outstanding and agreed on the tempura and forgave my wife and i for turning up late for our booking.

i'd return and the cost of $200 for 2 including drinks was great value by melbourne standards!

wow wow wow!!!!!! i came all the way down from sydney and this is one of the best modern japanese restaurant from what i have had, absolutely enjoyed everything. we had the oysters mixed and the sauce was so fresh. the king fish with fennel was also very fresh but i would like a bit more sauce. the pork shoulder was crunchy on the outside and moist on the inside. the quail might be a bit raw for me but very very juicy, tender and marinated really well. the combination was weird but worked very well. the wallaby, again, have some really surprising flavours and perfectly cooked. miso eggplant, yes my favourite dish. i love eggplant and tried million types of eggplant, but never saw any that goes with watermelom jelly😂weird, but also worked well, balanced out the sweetness of the miso. lastly, the dessert, white chocolate with coconut sorbet and yuzu curd, such a perfect way to end my dinner. everything goes really well together and yeah, nothing i can fault. the dishes come in small proportion and is designed to share, even though one dish is not that expensive but it actually adds up to a big amount. however, compares to sydney, food with this quality and spectacular view really isn't expensive.

stopped in for some pre-dinner beers and oysters and was very pleasantly surprised. a fantastic view and attentive staff only added to the experience of some of the freshest oysters and salmon sashimi. the oysters had 3 varieties of flavours and while the kimchi oysters were a little creative the rest punched well above their weight! definitely worth a second visit.

dinner with three ladies at the glass house last night, first visit for me and i found both the staff and the ambiance very welcoming and the location outstanding
my companions opted to select the plates ( tapas style )and with a wide range on offer it was easy to cater for all palates, we worked our way through prawn, chicken, pork and lamb dishes and all hit the spot, unfortunately the steak was a little too fatty but the potato dish made up for that,
now the glass house is not cheap and had the missus, daughter and daughter in law decided to drink up the bill could have got very ugly, there is a very extensive drinks menu ( not so much for beers ) but again the prices are towards the upper end
all in all it was a nice dining experience and will probably revisit some time soon

came here at night and the atmosphere was great. a walk in so we were seated at the bar. highly recommend beef tartare and scotch fillet both done to perfection and full of flavor. also had mixed oysters and kingfish both a delight. staff was friendly and considerate.

negroni was "the best" my sister ever had.
would be a great date night location too.

loved the glass house. best food in hobart and great service. we ordered nearly everything off the menu and the stand outs were the mixed oysters, tartare, salmon sashimi and the cheese plate. would definitely return here.

the glass house boldly proclaim their presence as ‘redefining style on hobart’s waterfront’. lofty ambitions.

while it would be a stretch to claim all the glory with a sensational venue such as aloft perched atop their broad rafters, they certainly take a lead role!

the very best spot in hobart for a drink before dinner is watching the bay at the glass house, on bowes street pier. close to the cbd it’s just across from salamanca place.

i booked a table for my dad and his new wife as a gift on their honeymoon. the team was great to deal with, sorted it all over the phone, had a signature cocktail prepared for them on arrival and gave them a table with a stunning view. report back was that the food was excellent as was the service. very happy!

i flew back to my birth-city hobart to celebrate my dad’s birthday on the weekend.  it was an evening celebration so there was time to fit in a lunch somewhere new.  always a food-opportunist (umm, i think you’ve probably already worked that out), i gathered some good friends and made a booking at the glass house, “the place at the end of the pier”.  i’d heard about this place because ikuei arakane (otherwise known as kinsan), the executive chef, was one of the chefs at a couple of charity/ironchef dinners that i went to in adelaide last year.

the place to have drinks in hobart right now - stunning water view of the derwent river is certainly worth a drink there, especially in summer where twlight is longer. extensive cocktail menu ($$$) is well worth an explore & drink. my favourite to date is the expresso martini (it is not on the menu but they will make it for you).

food - the tapas style food ($) (japanese/korean fusion) is a good accompaniment to the vast list of wine, cocktails, sake & whiskey. i recommend the korean fried chicken & pork belly bao.

a fabulous place for a drink to appreciate how beautiful hobart is, if you not concerned about $.

glass house is a beautiful place to dine. it's interior is really trendy and modern. i sat on arm chairs that are placed around a round table - in front of the beautiful view. best seats!! the food is meant for sharing and as such i was able to taste many small tapas style dishes and all of them were amazing! the cocktail menu is expansive, i tried three cocktails and they were good. although i think the food was nicer than their cocktails. i will definitely go back!
