absolutely incredible. the space is beautiful, with great attention to detail - everything from the bar to the seating to the artwork is just lovely. we shared 5 plates between two people for mains, and 1 dessert and were very full and happy. thefoodwas just amazing, particularly the wallaby tartare (the absolute star of the night), the oyster mushrooms and the white chocolate and yuzu curd. absolutely great option for a special night out. will definitely return during the day for a cocktail to appreciate the view.

the very best in hobart! this very, very busy venue was the last stop for my wife and myself on our tassie trip. a short and pretty walk down the deck from salamanca where we were staying it is one of the most spectacular venues i have been to other than vue de monde in melbourne. right on the water on a clear cold night with views over the harbour! thefoodwas some of the best western japanesefoodi have had anywhere in australia and the beverage list has great depth. we had several dishes between us and a very tasty chocolate dessert as well as some local riesling and the crystal 10yo japanese whiskey. a must do and we will be returning without hesitation when we travel next!

the glass house is an excellent spot for having a drink and chill out with friends. but if you're looking for a place to fill your stomach, go to mures lower deck. this is fine dining after all.

surrounded by the spectacular ocean view and oriental designs, this fusion australian-japanese restaurant promised to bring out the best dining experience. when you combine the freshness and abundancy of tasmanian seafood and the japanese's meticulousness, you have very high expectation. 

when we entered the restaurant, the supervisor appeared to be super casual and indifferent towards customers. she looked almost under pressure. our waitress was friendly (customer service voice, high pitch laugh detected), but ourfoodtook forever to appear. we ordered fresh oysters, salmon sashimi with ginger and sesame sauce, salmon ceviche, and salmon collars. the dishes seemed uncomplicated yet they took so long. if i compared to a fine dining restaurant in sydney, i'd have moved to the 7th item in the full course meal. anyway, most of thefoodwas good except for the salmon collars. the cheeks, cheapest cut of the salmon, were grilled and served with lemon. it tasted fishy. don't believe in the fancy names and descriptions. 

after the dinner, we joked among each other that we'd go grab maccas and kebabs. sadly, none are available in hobart cbd. ya'll missing out a lot, hobart.

my partner and i came here for dinner last night. we really enjoyed the great service, amazingfoodwith a beautiful view of the waters. the waitress was helpful, with choosing an absinthe since my partner wanted something strong. stand out for me was the lamb tartare, so goddamn delicious - whatever that sauce is, i was left wanting more, and the steak - cooked to perfection, well-rested, soft and moist.

whilst thefoodwas first class the service really fell short of expectation for a restaurant of your caliber.

our observations are as follows;

we had two waitresses...a bit odd

the waitresses clearly didn’t communicate and we had repeated same questions from them one after the other.

the first waitress asked us to clear the scallop shells from our plates for her...not really what you expect.

the second waitress had no knowledge of any of the dishes...most memorably when we asked her about the cheeses she advised us they were ‘cow cheeses’. when we sought more info she went away and came back to tell us they were from tasmania.

as i’ve said thefoodwas faultless, but we expected decent service too. also emailed the restaurant out of courtesy with feedback.. no response!

what a little gem!

glass house is an absolute treat.

beautiful venue with beautiful views andfoodto match

highly recommend all our dishes.
scallop ceviche
salmon tartare
burrata
eye fillet steak
broccolini

an eclectic mix of asian and european i was initially concerned would confuse the palate. nope! absolutely wonderful flavour combinations. i could go back again and again.

brilliant.

we arranged for dinner on a saturday and it was packed with people. the service was lovely and the view was amazing, overlooking the waters. thefoodwas really good and we really enjoyed it

we arrived with nothing but excitement and left bloated and disappointed. on arrival, we were taken to our seats, the restaurant was having a slow night. we started with a couple glasses of wine. this order was ‘lost’ and the bartender came over to check with us what we’d asked for. admittedly a little unexpected from a venue with a reputation like this one but no harm no foul. he was also charismatic and kind which was lovely and the wines themselves were also great. we then ordered the chefs menu from our first waitress, she also seemed positive and reasonably knowledgeable. at this point we were excited to start our meals. firstly the bread arrived. in hindsight, this may have been the bestfoodwe’d been handed all night. it was a great consistency, fresh and the spread/dip provided with it was divine. once again, excitement. post this point we had started being served by a different waitress, this one would drop new cutlery on the table in a messy/loud rush. this one would not interact or respond at all, vocally or with a simple smile when dropping off a course or being thanked. this one had little to no knowledge on the dishes and was obviously not interested in hospitality or interaction of any sort. this is seriously rookie stuff. i’ve gotten better service at most of the cafes i’ve visited, but i’m sure you’re aware that this is supposed to be a venue that wants to be taken seriously for dinner. i wonder if it was bad hiring or training that put this waitress in this awkward position. we found ourselves waiting almost uncomfortably long for courses, not just once or twice, every time. the dishes themselves were honestly, seriously, average at best. some were actually off-putting and hard to finish. the octopus dish, for example was one of the saltiest seafood dishes i may have ever eaten, hard to eat. the desert had a burning hot plate, but the contents were cold throughout and underdone. the sashimi was decent, i found a small fishes scale in a piece that was unpleasant to bite down on (wasabi on this plate was a lovely tasmanian wasabi) it was all overwhelmingly underwhelming. i’d like to mention also, they’d left two windows open, it was probably 6 degrees out. they were only cracked, but we’re talking ocean facing on a floating restaurant kind of cracked and toward the end of the visit we found ourselves rugging up with our coats... i get no joy in posting this review. this may have just been an off night for them (a very off night) but it felt extremely amateur. the bill $180, a price suitable for a decent experience or better. this was not.

we had an incredible time at the glass house. the staff were friendly and accommodating to our needs. the interior was beautiful and the view was great! lastly thefoodand cocktails were exceptional! absolutely no complaints.

we ordered the chef selection and it was definitely worth every penny.

we ordered bread with butter, sea urchin, kingfish tartare and pork belly. all dishes are amazing and delicious. the sea urchin is sweet and fresh. the pork belly was crispy outside while soft, tender and juicy inside. beautifulfoodmatches with nice view, good service and amazing ambience. btw, it is also a good place for dating, but a little pricy.

visiting from melbourne we had to try out thefoodon offer at the glass house. with such great reviews, who could resist?

the dining experience was wonderful, from location, ambiance, atmosphere & customer service. all perfect & really left a memorable impression. the customer service was charming, knowledgeable, relaxed & friendly. you felt totally safe in their hands.

thefoodwas absolutely outstanding! we opted for the ‘feed me’ options, which consists of a 7 course degustation including dessert. thefoodwas so on point in every way that we could not fault a thing. our favourite was the asian inspired pork belly & the roasted potatoes. all dishes had perfectly balanced flavours & were served at the perfect temperature to enjoy each dish.

please try the freycinet vineyard riesling- to die for!

the only small thing i could provide constructive criticism, is that the dishes did come out a bit too quickly, sometimes 2 at once. if you want to sip your beverage & want to savour each dish, maybe request them to bring thefoodout at a more slower pace. all our dishes pretty much all came out in 20 minutes. not a big deal, but i am a slow eater & like to take my time.

reasonably awkward venue to get to, walking through a tourist bureau. once you arrive, you certainly do a lovely room with a great aspect looking over the water. staff attentive andfoodwas great. a non locals venue lacking a little soul, yet worth a look.

came here dinner on our visit to hobart. very expensive so i had very high expectations. views weren’t that great. you can get the same view by visiting any other restaurant around the docks. the taste of thefoodwas average. the pork belly was very dry. beef cheeks were good, soft and very tender. my favourite dish was probably the caramelised apples. for the price i paid and quality/quantity offoodreceived, i’m giving it a 3 star.
