horrible, discriminating & rude staff behavior.

on 18-feb, i picked upfrencholive restaurant at porto arabia in pearl to celebrate my younger sisters birthday.
when we called in the morning for reservations, they said it’s full you may try walk-in and if tables are available we will accommodate you.

we came to restaurant at 09:35 pm.
the 3 female companion (total 6 of us) with us approached ms. maravi for table availability outside. ms. maravi told it’s not allowed to seat 6 people on 1 table (due to covid restrictions), only 5 people per table outside.
we asked for a corner table inside the restaurant, to which ms. maravi told “that area is closed due to restrictions as well”and accommodate us further inside instead, fair enough (rules are rules after all & we respect the law).

we celebrated the birthday & the service plus food was very good, undoubtedly!

however, when we were leaving the restaurant at 11:45 pm, we saw a family of 10 people sitting on the corner table inside the restaurant (we ignored it), further when we stepped outside we say a family of 8 people on 1 table (6 adults & 2 children). upon seeking explanation from ms. maravi, as to why the rules of covid are not met, she argued in an unpleasant, unprofessional, rude & ill manner with all of us & even called us “liars”.

adding to the above, the restaurant manager (name ibrahim) turns up (claiming he is the owner of the restaurant, which is false information as the owner is ifs group) & made the situation even worse. he was not wearing a mask (despite requesting him to wear a mask he declined our humble request).

instead of clearing the matter and apologizing, he firmly argued with us & told us “do whatever you want”.

the above incident speaks volumes about poor customer service, discrimination and violating government guidelines on covid restrictions.

i know ifs group from 16 years & had pleasant experience in the past unlike this incident. i request ifs to take strict action against the relevant staff & demand apology.

i visited thefrencholive restaurant in the porto arabia at the pearl, qatar
i was extremely disappointed by the food.
i ordered quinoa salad and steak sandwich. the salad had bitter taste because they added “burned” pines!
the steak sandwich was more of a fast food restaurant roast beef rather than a steak and it was extremely salty. my relatives ordered parmigiana, spaghetti chitarra pescatore and stracci con ragu di funghi e vitello (rice instead of pasta) and all were unhappy about their orders!
the problem is that the staff didn’t seem to care much about our complaint!!
this restaurant used to be on the top of my list! it’s sad how things changed!
i am not going back.

—— breakfast beaucoup——

one of the best quality breakfasts in doha! only on fridays starts at 8:00 am and goes on till 11:30 am. the spread was very extensive and neatly arranged. it was very appetizing especially because the foods looked so fresh. the must try on the buffet are:

- the butter danish pastries
- the muesli (its mindblowingly tasty)
- crepe rolls
-frenchtoast (delicious again)
- egg benedicts
- pancakes (made live)
- the croissants and muffins are super fresh and tasty
- freshly squeezed orange juice

coffee is complimentary in the buffet. however the water is charged extra. very good service. and the view of the water in the outdoor seating area is marvelous. highly recommended for breakfast!

interestingly i have been tofrencholive twice before for breakfast. my first time there was actually based on recommendation. the service was good on both occasions. on national sports day my family and i decided to go there for lunch. my 4 year old and one year old were really hungry and i was certainfrencholive would be a great place to have lunch since i enjoyed my breakfast experience; so i suggested it. my baby wasn't feeling too great so sitting outdoors was not an option. on getting to the restaurant, it was quite busy. my first son and i waited outside while my husband took our baby in to see if there was a seat and there was actually a table free and a guy named zack who i presume is a manager or supervisor had actually told him we could sit there. my husband signalled to me to come in and within seconds, 2 ladies came in saying 'zack was the best and he would find them seats and zack decided to give it to them' my husband pointed t out how unfair that was and he didn't seen bothered about it and another lady who looked like a supervisor just said sorry and said we can sit outside. i was very disappointed. coming from a manager that was very poor service. perhaps some of the staff need further training as they clearly don't know what customer service means. i'm not sure if i will visit again but if i do, like the first two times that i went there, i hope zack won't be on duty as he wasn't helpful at all.

i was recently invited to try the friday breakfast buffet and i was not disappointed. the buffet had a lovely spread from fruits, breads, delis, hot mains and live food. this also includes fresh orange juice and coffees.
i found the food to be quite delicious and my favorite item was thefrenchtoast.
i took my kids along and they found food they enjoyed as well so it was perfect for us. the restaurant has a lovely outdoor seating which in lovely weather can elevate your dining experience.

french olive is an underrated restaurant in the pearl. yes, its a bit high end in comparison to the average restaurants. however, the quality of food is good and the taste is consistent.

the ambiance is simple and elegant. the service can be inconsistent depending when you are dining.

my favorites here -

1. minestrone genovese - i keep going back for this soup because no one makes it asfrencholive does!

2. risotto asparagi - if you're like me and you like something crunchy in your buttery smooth risotto, then you definitely need to try this.

3. pollo pesto (green pizza pie) & spinaci caciofi (pizza with spinach and ricotta )

4. tiramisu - wouldn't say its the best but the one served here is definitely delicious

5. saffron milk cake - quite unconventional considering their entire menu but the saffron milk cake here is a must try. moist and melt in your mouth with just a hint of saffron. so well balanced

i would choose this place for a date night and special occasions.

not very often do i receive an invitation (be it a launch, menu tasting, or any other event) that is delivered either to my house or office. usually, i get them through email, instagram messages, or even whatsapp. yeah, whatsapp invitation is a bit cringe-worthy if you’ll ask me. so when i got a call from thefrencholive doha asking for my address and availability because they have an invitation for me, my inner child was jumping as if a present is on its way.

what makes this a happy spot? the freshly made smoothies (i totally loved the berry patch!) and cocktails, delish appetizers, right up to their divinefrench& italian main courses, down to heavenly and savoury desserts!

thank you to the amazing team and chef de cuisine vrundam who made our dining experience an exquisite one. the restaurant has a private area, too.

highly recommending the arancini, penne al pollo, risotto aspargi, tiramisu (the bomb), berry patch, varieties of milk cakes, and pizza!
