usually when a cafe claims that they have the “best coffee” in sydney, i am a bit sceptical. while i can’t claim that the coffee at the factory grind was the best coffee i have ever had in sydney, i can claim that it is one of the best.

the lamb kofta burger was delicious! would definitely recommend this brunch spot.

fantastic neighbourhood cafe with an inventive turkish flare - one of my favourites for an inner city brunch! the avocado toast is a winner!

great cafe with a young and trendy vibe.
seating is available inside and outside.
they are open 7 days a week and open from 6am so perfect for the early risers :)
their menu is quite extensive and you can see a turkish touch on their dishes. all dishes are available all day.
first dish we had was the factory benedict. definitely not your ordinary benedict. it’s better! i love the turkish veal sucuk. it’s tasty with a little bit of spiciness.
first time trying the ‘bread’ (arepas) and it’s quite unique and delightful. and the hollandaise tied everything just beautifully.
then i had the kafte burger. wow. first of all, the burger looks epic with that eccentric charcoal brioche. the brioche is soft, bouncy and yum! the highlight is definitely the homemade chunky lamb kafte. juicy and flavoursome. i love the whole turkish touch on this burger. distinctively tasty flavours. served with sweet potato chips that are crispy and delish!
we finished with the coffee. i love it. strong and aromatic (from de luca). overall we had an enjoyable dining experience.

the factory grind was one of those cafes that sat on the edge of my consciousness. i’d noted it always had full tables when i was visiting venues in the renovated st. margarets complex, but had never actually made the time to visit. a recent brunch with a friend demonstrated just how negligent i had been... about a year and a half ago, the factory grind was taken over by efe (eddie) topuzlu. while keeping the same name, efe has set about earnestly trying to resurrect the look and the fading reputation of this once-popular spot. with dangling greenery, geometric wallpaper, a curved banquette and light flooding in from two sides, the interior is much more inviting than i was expecting from the old garage exterior. with the afternoon sun still hitting bourke street, we opt to enjoy our late lunch outdoors on the sheltered short street side. efe – if you haven’t already guessed by his name – is turkish, and has placed his own cultural spin on the café’s updated menu. the turkish breakfast board ($24), served all day long, is...

i love the factory grind. close to the city - but not too close - with attentive but never intrusive service. brilliant selection of single origin coffees & inexpensive turkish fusion meals to die for (as well as lots of standard cafe fare for the less adventurous). highly recommended!

didn't even know this place existed as it is tucked away from a busy street. this trendy little place served me up some gipsy pancakes, a mediterranean spin on your traditional breakfast pancakes and they were amazing! hats off to the chef or owner or whoever came up with it. good coffee, good service and surprising food (in a good way), i would recommend.

what a surprising gem tucked away on a main thoroughfare.

i had the grilled baby octopus salad - amazing - the haloumi was grilled perfectly, as was the baby octopus and the pomegranate dressing was divine.  my husband had the factory benny with the gooey yolks beautifully complemented by the hollandaise sauce, then nicely mopped up by the sourdough.

great service and food and i would recommend it heartily

overall lovely - chilled experience, food with fresh interesting ingredients (think chanterelle mushrooms with herbs to zchuj up your scrambled eggs - yes please)

this place is cool!

cool design, cool location, cool menu, cool staff and cool food.
oh, and is it odd to say the toilet is cool too?

coolness aside i would easily recommend this place for breakfast to any food-loving zomatoer.

brunch. returned to the factory grind this week. we sat outdoors to enjoy the cool breeze and a spot of people-watching. i had high hopes for the panne cook which sounded great on the menu (eggs baked in brioche with smoked salmon, spinach, mushrooms and parmesan) - unfortunately, it didn't quite deliver. presentation was cute with the eggs baked in two hollowed-out brioches with the other fillings nestled underneath. however, the whole dish was rather bland and dry - an extra element like sauce or salsa would've made a huge difference. the eggs were also cooked a tad too long so no gooey yolks to double up as sauce. the spanish-style eggs were much better and there was plenty of sauce to mop up with the sourdough. the best order we had that day though, was the pulled pork sandwich on the lunch menu. a panini packed with tender shreds of pork, slightly spicy thanks to the chipotle and complemented by a refreshing slaw. great flavours and i'd definitely order that again. good coffees and friendly service as expected.

thumbs way way up. the factory grind is a lovely little cafe that ticks all the boxes: tasty food, good coffee and friendly service. the croque douche seemed to be a cross between a croque monsieur and eggs benny with jamon serrano, gouda and poached eggs on toast with a white sauce. classic flavours done well, it was a richly satisfying dish. we also enjoyed the daily special of sourdough topped with semi-dried tomatoes, feta, smoked salmon and a poached egg. the pine nut pesto gave it extra oomph. we'll definitely be back to try the rest of the interesting menu. the panne cook has my name on it!

the factory grind is an incredibly friendly little café, always welcoming and accommodating - i often come in with a toddler and they are lovely and helpful every time i struggle to get through a door! they take card with no minimum (always useful!) and i love their coffee. i highly recommend it!
