nice dinner at the dandelion. we visited the dandelion on friday night and had a lovely time. the staff was hospitable, friendly, and attentive. i had a humongous dandelion salad, delicious bread, and fish and chips. the wine selection is not extensive, but the choices by the glass were nice, and they were not stingy with the portions. agoodvalue.

great atmosphere!

my visit to dandelion was great! i ordered the warm roast beef sandwich which was great! super tender and nicely toasted bread, the horseradish sauce was nice but not overpowering. i also ordered a side of mac and cheese with my meal which was also great, goodquality cheese and had same ham as well. my dad has the bangers and mash which he said was great also. the tea cups were also super cute and the tea was authentic too! i would totally recommend the dandelion!

had friends in from europe and went here for the first time and we all absolutely loved it. first let me start by saying all the staff is incredible. for wednesday night it was pretty crowded we put our name in and waited at the bar for our table, we were seated on the first floor first for a little bit was chilly but fortunately that passed. we had enjoyed a cheese plate at the bar then at the table had the oysters which were incredible along with the root vegetable soup a perfect winter creation. for meals we enjoyed fish and chips, tandoori chicken, braised short rib and traditional bangers and mash all were delicious. ended our evening with perfect espressos and lattes along with two desserts and i will say the sticky toffee putting wasgoodbut was more like a spice cake then a pudding.

verygoodbut still love monk's. this was our first time and it was definitely a hit. the service was spot on and friendly. in fact our server fielded and answered a somewhat obnoxious foodie/ingredient question from one of our party with grace and humor. food itself was tasty and well prepared. nothing special, but then again, it's a pub. my wife was quite pleased with the shepherd's pie. the only let-down was the sticky toffee pudding which was "ok." the place gets very crowded and loud and definitely is not a place for kids or a romantic dinner. monk's remains my favorite gastro pub in philly.

looks like a real pub, feels like s gastro..good tho. we were looking for a pub, it felt more like a restaurant but in the end i reckon it was on a gastro pub level.

had some nice beers on tap... the ipa and the pilsner for sure

the menu was pretty cool for this side of the pond, some pickled stuff some liver parfait etc, not cheap but certainlygoodquality.

decor is cool ,a few bits of taxidermy with some tusks etc and a few locals enjoying, the bar staff were friendly and attentive

the bar menu inciluded a burger at $16 which was truely excellent, toasted brioche with volume, burger as ordered medium rare with a definate blush and a nice taste to the meat, salad fresh and crunchy, maybe a bit smal?? and could have been warmer but then that is the case with med rare right?

decor and ambience from us was a defo thumbs up... 10 beers, one chips and one burger with chips=$100 plus tip :)

transported.... on first glance i thought chichi, a bit ostentatious...the animal heads adorning the walls, the fireplace, yardsale unmatched furniture, pricey menu; an over-the-top take on the english pub...and then i was sucked in. after having lived a few years in ireland, i began to appreciate the subtlety within the wild disney affair...the comics on the bathroom wall, the bar and bartenders, the cask conditioned ales, and of course...the fish and chips. starr has created not only another great menu with food far better than any angloirish pub i've encountered, but he's captured the pub feel that makes you feel comfortable, it's a bar you can hang out in and the only thing missing is the tobacco stained wallpaper, the trad session in the corner and the toothless drunk sipping his bulmer's.

aside from the atmosphere, to comment on the food i'll disclose that i've only been twice, once for brunch and once for dinner. the brunch was excellent, scones were a must but be careful of the bar bill...it adds up pretty quick when your party burns through a few pitcher, cocktails and brew. on our dinner trip we sat at the bar, and indulged in the fish and chips...the and is because the chips are every bit asgoodas the fish...and the fish is not skimping...it's a big hunk of cod cooked to perfection and served on a wood platter.

great place, fun atmosphere, a place i'll bring visiting friends to introduce to philly starrdom.

cheers.

wish there was an "i love it" button! had the fish and chips. best in pa/nj. better than the "real thing" which i've had in the uk. also had duck/chicken liver parfait with cranberry chutney and brioche. phenomenal! can't say enoughgoodthings. even the brit beers on tap were good.

fish and chips! oh yea!. went there last night with my sister and enjoyed the place and food. we sat upstairs in a room with a neat little bar and pictures of dogs. started off with the summer tomato salad it was visually nice with yellow and red heirloom tomatoes and the taste was standard with a balsamic dressing and chives. then i had the fish and chips. the fish was cooked perfectly and the batter was awsome. the chips wheregoodbut texture wise didnt quite have the crunchy outside creamy on the inside feel. finished off the meal with the semolina custard rolls. it wasgoodbut were very hot when i bit into it. overall i really liked it and would go there regular basis.

i really figured my next stephen starr experience would be at granite hill because my friday evenings are mostly spent checking out the art museum scene at art after 5 , but as it turns out, i had a ladies luncheon at the dandelion (18th & sansom) last week. this large, multi-roomed english pub is phenomenal! 4 tines for atmosphere (* excellent - 4 tines / * great - 3 tines / *good- 2 tines / * fair - 1 tine * poor - tarnished ). too bad the lovely fire in the wait to be seated area was wasted on us, as it was a sunny 75 degree afternoon; but i'd love to go back on a cold, rainy evening and order the lamb shepherd's pie (mashed potatoes, cheddar cheese, wintry vegetables ) $16. the many dining rooms and some of the decor reminds me of my very favorite philly restaurant, the white dog cafe . photo credit denine gorniak - the bicycle chef i was actually in the mood for warm roast beef (watercress salad, horseradish mayonnaise, beef gravy, sourdough bread ) $12 . however, it's more fun t
