the cowfish sushi burger bar

the loudest, most overly packed and non relaxing environment i've ever eaten in. the menu was too big, too complicated and contained few items that were more than a gamble at being enjoyable. if you want to read a menu for an hour in the middle of a party and then guess at what they'll bring you and hope someone doesn't lean against you while you eat, then this i'd your place.

eating at cowfish sushi burger bar is like eating inside a pinball machine. it’s bright, it’s loud, chipper urbanites bounce off one another on the way to the bar (free ball!) and the bathroom (double bonus!), and everybody watches the big scoreboard, where their assigned cartoon fish get closer to the lcd surface while they wait—and wait and wait—to finally be seated (high score!). but tune out the frenetic motion and noise and just groove on the burger, and you’ll be at the table all night. the boursin burger was a fine example of burgerdom. the patty was properly cooked with just a little char around the edges, and th

as the entrees start coming out, it’s visually impressive. big plates full of food and interesting presentation makes for a spectacle. my brento box comes with some steamed edamame, sweet potato fries and spicy cucumber slices along with the sushi and mini texas longhorn burger. i start with the sides, the edamame is decent but lacks a bit of salt, the cucumber slices are nicely done with some spiciness

the cheesecake factory of sushi restaurants.
i mean that both positively and negatively. the food here is on par with higher end chain restaurant quality food--in large portions and pages of it. in this area, they are unique in their concept of serving sushi & burgers which is fantastic for them. and kudos on the location--north hills gets better every year.
i love that there are alternatives available to the health-conscious patrons but careful, they add sauce to nearly everything. the quality of the fish is not impressive but, it is not bad. i have always been pleased with the service but also feel terribly sorry for them for having to remember an incredibly extensive menu of such mediocre food.
i will likely be back simply because of convenience of location and the fact that i can create a really healthy roll of my own.

a few friends get together and decide to go out.  but then . . . i want sushi.  i want a burger.  well, i want a 10 ounce exotic martini! has this ever happened to you  maybe not exactly but you get the idea.  take popular concepts that are worlds apart and bring them together with a weird flair and you have the cowfish sushi burger bar.  there’s a reason no one thought of this idea before – it’s a strange combination.  strange, weird or worlds apart it doesn’t matter because it works.  the clever menu ideas and the crossing of the two concepts help to make it work, but when it’s all said and done cowfish delivers.  a clean restaurant, attentive service, quality menu items with striking presentations and colorful décor give you a reason to want to return and experience cowfish again. it’s not often you see a restaurant on urbanspoon rated 89% by nearly 1,300 people.  these folks found a winning combination that is truly unique.  be prepared because the place will be packed.

this place is crazy busy and loud. food is average, decor kinda on the funky side. to me it's not worth all the hype! probably won't return.

so good. had an excellent lunch here. coconut onion ring appetizer was enormous and very very good. my burger was a delicious lamb patty with capers, tzatziki, and a big square of fried feta. the bacon coleslaw on the side was heaven. and my wife had the black truffle burger, which was just a wonderfully tasty truffle overload. the deserts and shakes looked good too, but we were just too full to even consider them. next time.

my favorite elements of cowfish are undoubtedly the atmosphere and unique menu offerings. the food is delicious, but very pricey. if they had bogo sushi i'd be there every other week, but unfortunately at around $20 for one roll and half an appetizer this is a special outing kind of place.

wow! if ever there was a word to describe the perfect restaurant for my wife and i, it would be cowfish. one that so deftly creates a perfectly sloppy burger for me, and artfully rolled sushi for my wife. we tried the ahi tuna nacho's, awesome. mini burgers, phenomenal. the spicy korean chicken sandwich, sublime. and the best pickle chips since the penquin. this place will forever be one of our goto restaurants. great job and welcome to raleigh.

3 of 5 stars (good, casual dining).

this could, technically, qualify as fine dining. but, the frenetic feel and volume are more along the lines of "posh casual".

allow about 40-50 minutes-- 15 minutes to read the menu!

price: $20-$30 per person (no dessert, one drink, gratuity not included).

this is another in a growing list of places that does not take reservations for dinner (they will reserve a table for you before 6pm).

owner marcus hall is happy to be returning to his roots in raleigh after two very successful ventures in the charlotte area.

the first, eez fusion sushi, is in huntersville (near lake norman). he later opened his first cowfish in charlotte.

this second cowfish, like the first, has a huge aquarium sitting in the middle of the restaurant.

the menu here is big. a little too big. there's sushi, there's burgers, and there's "burgushi" which tries to combine the first two.

recommended: any of the sashimi plates. the cuts are huge and thick. my nine-piece was so big i could not finish it (and priced at $19).

but, others in our party were not as impressed. turkey burger was lost in an over-sized bun which looked just plain comical.

i will return, but the others in my party said they will not.

love the whimsical artwork on the walls.
