when perfect service and fantastic cooking combine, you just know you are going to have this place on your list for special occasions. from the really friendly and welcoming maitre d' (a fellow brit so i'm biased) to our perfect waiter, the service was among the best in phoenix (binkleys is about the only comparison i can make). our waiter was attentive and knowledgeable of the menu as you'd expect but hit the perfect balance of being there at the table when we needed it but not being there when we didn't. my only regret is that the chap was new in town from florida and didn't have a card otherwise i'd credit him by name here! oh ... and the food .... what a treat! perfect lobster bisque and calamari with jalapenos and peppers as appetizers with excellent choices of wine by the glass. being lunch, entrees on offer were lighter sandwich/salad options, but being a definite occasion of celebration, 8oz filets were the only way to go. so you'd expect the filets to be perfect and they were. the sides made the steaks though - excellent quality mashed potato bur really quite compelling combinations of butternut squash, almonds and amaretto. terriffic. deserts on offer varied from light gelato through chocolate cake. top marks to our waiter here for his guidance .... we chose the cake option but the real star was his recommendation - strawberries with vanilla bean ice cream and grand marnier. whoever came up with this combo is truly a rockstar pastry chef. i cannot recommend the capital grille enough. thanks for making a special celebration so memorable!
