the borough

the borough used to be agreatplace to eat. now it has changed hands it has gone downhill. went there for a work farewell last night and the food was average at best. one of our group was refused service even for food after 2 glasses of wine for being too intoxicated. if you want to be the moral police good luck running a bar during tough times in hospitality!!

amazing food would most defiantly recommend as agreatdate night spot of for a friday night dinner and drink. food was outstanding super tasty and pretty well priced. halloumi chips are a must, super delish and something a bit different. was pretty busy so service was a bit slow but the servers were lovely and apologetic when they got to us.

went to the borough for lunch on a monday and when we walked in we couldn't believe how busy it was. lots of people and a really good ambiance and all the staff looked busy.
first of all the restaurant area is spaced well and decorated exceptionally.
staff are really friendly andgreatoutdoor seating available out back with a play area for the kids. very rare to find a place this family friendly these days.
we ordered a smoked salmon rittelle and a buttermilk fried chicken burger. both meals cooked fresh and promptly served.
salmon dish was not what i was expecting but was really quite tasty. chicken burger is something i will be having again.
price was around usual for a standard cafe and personally i think reasonable enough given what agreatexperience we had.

will i return - most definitely. (can't wait to try the dinner menu)

tip - join the social club rewards program and earn rewards points when dining here and many other restaurants in the wellington region. essentially a 10% rebate on money spent at these restaurants which accumulates and can be redeemed at any restaurant with the social club rewards program when certain targets have been met.

we went last night (tuesday 30/01/18) and had the worst experience.  it was stinking hot, doors were wide open - most of the punters were fanning themselves with the menu - but not one cs person offered anyone a fan.  the food was over spiced with lemon, nothing balanced.  the salsa verde with the salmon was awful - the mussels were like rubber as they were overcooked - the spiced cauliflower was under-cooked so that the florets were raw.  after letting them know on facebook - that is when i learnt there were fans available if i had asked - how do you ask for something you don't know is on offer?  don't come to this place - their staff aregreat- but the chef needs to learn to taste his food before letting it out of his kitchen.  we will never go back, there are better places to spend $120 at.

really good customer service. i ordered the smashed avocado on toast for $15 plus two extra sides of haloumi and bacon for $4 per side, total $23. my partner ordered the creamy mushrooms on toast for $16 with added bacon for $4, total $20. we also ordered two coffee's. food wasgreatand tasty. only negative was the portion size of the bacon and haloumi plus there was alot of bread. coffee was good. would be good if they offered hashbrowns as a side 😁
