the boathouse restaurant

what a difference a year makes!. stopped by to see the new highly anticipated renovation at the boathouse. wow!! what an awesome improvement. this restaurant is definitely what you'd expect from a lakeside dining experience. great staff, great food, and great location! can't wait to take friends there this summer.

my husband and i, dr roy clapper, have been coming here for many years together and he alone has been coming to this restaurant for over 20 years. although we love the view by the lake, we will not return here until there is new management and better service.

tonight (7/14/2017) was the third time we came here for dinner since the restaurant opened for 2017 season and each time service was terrible. tonight's experience was the worst. while we sat at the bar waiting for our table, the bartender did not acknowledge us or take our order for at least 15 minutes. the bartender was very busy and we took that into consideration. we waited about 20-30 minutes for our table which we were ok with since they were busy. once seated at the table we were promptly served water and then waited 30 minutes and no one took our order so we got up to leave. i believe i talked with the manager on our way out and i told him we have been waiting a long time and no one has even taken our order. he apologized and said they were really busy. i put my hand up because i didn't want to hear that excuse again. the manger said "i got the hand so i'm not talking to you anymore". he promptly started talking to waiting customers about me in a negative way so i told him i will post a review on yelp. the manager said "go ahead, you do that!". i was frustrated and he was condescending and angry.

what happened?. my husband and our friends have been coming there for years and honestly this year is not a good one.for the past few years it has been better each season. the food was the reason we came, but the three times we came this season were marginal at best. ribs were dry tough and tasteless. crab cakes were nothing like the real ones you had last year .my cold salad had a hot undercooked piece of chicken on it.when we asked our waitress last time why were things different and sub-par she said that they changed chefs from the last few years. another thing is the drink prices were not the same for the same drink on the same night? we wanted someone to know.

new owner!!. the new management really did a fantastic job with the place. it's such a nice spot and the food and menu if all new and fantastic. you have to try the fish tacos and the fish and chips. the fries are great and the service is quick. got my food on a busy night in under 15 minutes.
if you had a bad experience before, it's a completely new place. give it a chance and you'll be glad you did.

great place. i'm really excited for the boathouse to open up again. it's nice to have an affordable place on hayden lake that we can get to from the boat. the food is awesome and the service is fantastic!

a better boathouse. the changes they have made at the boathouse..wow..what a difference! my husband and i recently stopped in for dinner a few nights ago. it's soo much better than last year-the place looks great, we had excellent service, and the huckleberry martini is fantastic! our server was prompt and the seafood tortellini was amazing! hats off to the chef and staff....well done!

awesome. we had the best huckleberry martini. the remodel is incredible and sitting on the deck at sunset was amazing.
i have been back twice and haven't been disappointed yet. food is very good and the portions are large! will be going next summer for sure.

service at the boathouse was pretty.... mediocre. a group of 7 of us came in around 7:30. the server told us to sit wherever we liked and someone would help us in a minute. we had to pull tables together for our group even after we had called ahead. it took quite a while to get our water and the server was polite but didn't know what beverages they offered. (orange juice not even one of their specialty cocktails). after waiting another long while we finally got our drinks and waited even longer to place our order. being one of the few tables in the restaurant you would think that we got our food in a timely manner but we didn't and didn't get water refills while we waited. ( most of ours were empty). when we did get our food, all of our orders with fries were cold and the chicken i ordered was just glorified mcnuggets. the only thing that was done timely was clearing our empty plates but even getting us the bill was quite a chore. overall the food was just ok and the service was slow. i guess if we had ordered a couple bottles of wine we could have had the same service as the table next to us.

wow!! finally. i am so excited, the boathouse is finally what it should be. i have gone to the boathouse about once every summer for the past few years, was usually disapointed. not this time! the remodel is amazing the boathouse has a fresh new feel. it now has a nice seperation between bar and restaurant that is important to a mom with young kids and the openess, unfortunitly it was raining so we were bumbed we had to eat inside but with remodel it did not matter we still felt like it was a dinning at the lake. the restaurant was not the only thing remodeled, even though i recognized some of the staff , there was a huge difference in energy and attitude. the customer service was much improved. i was greated immediatly when i came in. the server checked on us several times and had quite a little conversasion with my 3 year daughter (much appreciated). all of our meals were wonderful. this summer i will visit the boathouse again and again and again. thanks guys!!!

bad meal and service. 8/30/11
first..the service was spotty and slow.
ordered the $19 steak with salad. steak was done okay but so tough that i could not chew it. the waitress never came over to ask how our dinners were..when when finally came over i sent the meal back. i was given to compensation for a meal not eaten and not even an apology!!
will never go back again!!

quality food, extremely bad service... it is obvious when attending the boathouse that you don't receive a proper greeting. the service is absolutely terrible. most restaurants with such pricing and expectations would have a quality wait staff that would tell you one of two things:
1) "please be seated and i will take your order immediately."
2) "we have a slight wait this evening of (estimated time of wait), and we may seat you if we have it available, or the wait for food is (time of wait)."
unfortunately at this lakeside restaurant you seat yourself, and have your order taken by inexperienced service whilst waiting hours per night for your food.

dissapointment. took my wife there for a nice summer evening dinner on the lake, and what a disappointment it was. the servers were trying their best, but nonetheless, it was a half hour to get a drink and another to get the appetizer, which was clams and barely editable, at best.

after nearly an hour, the main course showed up (server never asked if we wanted another drink while we were waiting all this time) the shrimp pene was pathetic, and that's being generous. so, bottom line, it was terribly slow, lousy appetizer and utterly terrible entree.

the bread was really good though and the location is exceptional - a beautiful place to sit by the lake and waste 50 bucks on a very very poor
