the blue fish restaurant

my new favorite! while my wife and i were discussing the fact that most seafood restaurants are either called camps, house or shack, we decided to look for something a bit nicer. we were not disappointed with the blue fish. our experience began with a fantastic server "g" who described the menu so well that we each decided on 2 small plates each instead of appetizers and salads. i opted for the shrimp and grits which was incredible. i never would've dreamed such a simple southern combination could have so much flavor and complexity, fantastic! i also ordered a small fresh catch grouper, blackened and served over cajun style beans and rice. again, fantastic! my wife decided on the shrimp and scallops over mac n cheese. no disappointment there either. it was served with white truffle sauce to complement. very rich and wonderful. she also had the fresh catch sole cooked with white wine and capers. very light and tasty. my compliments to the chef/owner richard, who came out and personally welcomed us and made sure we were enjoying our
meals. we will be bringing friends next time as our dining experience was extraordinary. thank you for a great evening!

crab bisque and coconut shrimp wete very good. chocolate mousse tort was rich and velvety. will definitely be back.

awkward, but tasty. i just went to the blue fish for lunch and while the angus burger was tasty (i don't eat seafood, but i went with a group and majority rules...), the chairs and table were just... off. either the (hard) chairs are too tall or the tables are too short. and the extra long tablecloths were also a nuisance. they kept getting caught under our chair legs. anyway, i enjoyed the food, but i didn't feel at ease or relaxed the way i had to sit. i just felt awkward the whole time and was glad to be able to get out of the place into a more comfortable chair.

omg we dined here for easter dinner and everything was crazy good. we had never been here before but now we wish we had. the food was delicious and the drinks were spot on, well done. all i have to say is we'll be back and we can't wait.

fantastic!. after seeing the 78% i wasn't expecting much but i was pleasantly surprised. the food, service and atmosphere was great. my fish was cooked to perfection with the most amazing burr blanc sauce. the wait staff was knowledgeable and accommodating to my diet.

mark c restored our faith in brunch in avondale. we decided to give it another try and we were all pleasantly surprised. we had a group of 6 plus a two yr old and he took great care of us. thanks for great food and service. great improvement from our last visit with the testy bartender.

blue fish restaurant- avondale. i am a small business girl. i have always believed in giving my money to the community to help starting up businesses strive. tonight, i experienced an awful experience at blue fish. not only was was the food terrible, the service was rude to my mother and i. my mother had asked for an appetizer and the waitress then proceeded with a snide comment " i heard you!!" we sat down, barely had any attention from the staff. in my opinion this restaurant could have excellent staff as well as a decent portion of meal. take your money else where. there are better restaurants in avondale with better service!

first time visiting the restaurant an my experience was great. even thou we didnt have reservations our wait time was minimal. drinks we very good, even thou our food order took a while it was prepared very well an actually seasoned to taste. i would def revist! thanks to brad for parking our car for us because we might have ended up going somewhere else if not!

a great place!. i dined at bluefish with some friends last week and had a great experience. i had the herb crusted sea bass with beurre blanc which was cooked to perfection. my friends and i shared an order of steamed mussels to start (outstanding) and finished the meal with an ice cold key lime pie.
the wait staff was very attentive and anticipated our every wish. i would give this place two thumbs up on service, quality and atmosphere. a must for food lovers.

terrible service, food and obnoxiuos loud drunks. the hostess was rude and would not seat us where we requested as she said tables reserved but nobody ever sat at them while we were there. she asked us number in our group about 5 times..it was only 4 people. hostess sat us in a back room off bar and the bar drunks were so loud we had to scream to hear each other. all tables in room complained with nothing done. i ordered the sea bass and when delivered it was barely warm and not tasty at all when it was approx 30 dollar meal. i ordered an expensive mixed drink to find very little if no alchohol in it. they are way over priced for the caliber of food they serve. so after spending over 100 dollars for my wife and i to eat we will never go back again as it was the worst dinner we have had in years. talk about overrated!

i went with a friend to have dinner and listen to live music. i had never eaten here before. i love sea food, and thought it might be good. i ordered the coconut shrimp. i wanted the meal and not the appetizer, and chose asparagus and mashed potatoes as my sides. the shrimp were plump and crisp. the mash potatoes were however cold, and the three tiny spears is asparagus were over cooked and chewy. this disappointing meal was a whopping 24.00. my companion ordered the bisque and had to send it back because it arrived at the table cold. our waiter whisked it away without even telling her what he was doing with it. we assumed he would have it warmed or replaced, but since there was no explanation we weren't sure. the bread we were served was tasty, but small rolls and only a few were placed in the basket. when we asked for more, he brought two more rolls. at 24 bucks a plate, you would think that they wouldn't be stingy with the bread. this restaurant has an open front that spreads out to the sidewalk. this is fine for warmer months, but in january it is painfully cold. we were miserable the entire time. so the bottom line is that the food was overpriced, carelessly prepared, the waiter was thoughtless and a bit rude, and were were miserably cold the entire meal. i will not go back. nothing was worth a repeat performance.

oysters rockefeller, oh yes!. i travel a lot on business, and i'm always looking for a good place to eat. a lot of places do the trick as 'good enough,' but few actually get the 'wow' factor that makes me want to return for another visit. the blue fish has a great thing going on for a monday night meal. the neighborhood is charming and the ambiance is welcoming, but the 50/50 appetizer platter of oysters rockefeller and bienville stole the show. i will be back for more. i opted to sit outdoors on a mild evening and the patio heaters made it a comfortable place to hold a conversation without rushing through the meal. the courses were timed well so that i could digest my meal a bit between courses which i prefer for a slower paced relaxing evening. i also had ev's arugula and pear sald which was uniquely dressed with orange miso, an interesting twist on a trendy salad with blue cheese and walnuts. for my main entree, i had the chicken piccata which was appropriately prepared and featured unusually large capers. the capers were again a nice twist for a common dish. overall the meal warrants a return visit to sample other potential winners on the menu. regarding others' remarks about slow service, i can see how anyone requiring fast service could be frustrated. but, it should be said that my glass never went empty nor did my finished plate sit long in front of me. i thought the service was just as it should be. can't wait to get the oysters again and to sample other small plates on the menu.

since we had a good experience with the lunch, i would definately return to sample the dinner menu as it will be a good benchmark of the quality and price point for the cuisine there
