amazing whiskey collection. only a half dozen cocktails on the menu, but they are bloody good and i suspect the friendly, knowledgable bar staff would make others. only food ispretzels(complimentary) and a "ploughman's platter" (cheese, shaved ham, a nice possibly homemade gerkin, bread & butter) for $25.

very hidden. go up the alley, turn to the right. no signs. maybe a doorman.

very cool, almost a prohibition-era speakeasy feel.

what a perfection of a bar.

i was quite proud, thinking i had found it with no help in the first go, but yes think again. if you believe you made it, well you probably haven't. very hidden, but still buzzing with people, because i guess once you've had a taste, you really have no reason not to go back.

if you get there early, like right off work early (5pm), you might be able to grab a seat. i hear at 8 you're pretty much guaranteed to stand around.

my friend got his usual, and although i know nothing about whiskey nor enjoy it very much, this one went down quite well. this is probably an irrelevant review considering it is a whiskey bar and i have hardly anything to comment on the whiskey, but what impressed me was the freepretzelsand my mocktail. 😅 and also how as i was about to pay the bartender only charged for the whiskey, and when i asked he swiftly replied with "we don't charge for mocktails!", which was a lovely surprise! 😀

will go back. 😍

how hard can it be to find place with google maps, so i thought. you walk down the alleyway towards the bar and it opens to a yard with another bar called the barbershop, which i ended up walking into. later found out, it was across the yard with a sketchy entrance, but hey why not. it was dimly lit, cosy and lively little bar. huge assortment of different whiskies displayed on the shelves, with a large board displaying some of the prices. sat down and we were handed a menu, when i called out to the waiters then i found out there was no table service. despite that, the waiters and bartenders were lively, friendly and attentive. they had complimentarypretzelsthat were topped up when low. felt like a place where you could come with a couple of friends to have a yarn.

cocktails were mainly whisky based, taste good but not the best i'd ever had. they didn't stock my favourite whisky but the large selection whiskies made up for it. whisky prices were all reasonable for a bar at this location. a large selection of whiskies, great atmosphere and service quality made me enjoy the night. table service would've been great but understandable that it's difficult to do in this country.

overall score: 21/25 or ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
in 5 words: extensive whiskey bar in sydney
*
review: down the stairs and behind a fire emergency door is a speakeasy bar full of character. baxter inn prides itself for having the widest range of whiskey selection in town. the whiskey menu itself was almost 30 pages, with every single type of whiskey you can possibly think of. i can also attest that the fresh and air cocktails were excellent, not diluted or too sweet and refreshing for a great summer day.

the waiters are very friendly and who clearly know their stuff, so always ask for recommendations. the complimentarypretzelswere also an added bonus. can’t come here everyday as cocktails cost $20-$30 each. but every now and then, one should indulge in good cocktails and enjoy jazz music in a place like this.

so we were at sydney and everything closes pretty early for us. so a friend of ours takes us into this alley and none of it is this place. we go around and walk down a stairway only to find this little place tucked into a corner where no one could imagine it to be. open the doors and you’re in a different world. a nice ambiance, people enjoying themselves, the classy bartenders, old school menu. so much that i can go on about this place. being one of the best pubs in the world, they stand up to it and mix up some amazing drinks too. thepretzelsnever stop coming, and the time, you’ve no clue how it flies here... great place to hang out late nights in sydney with friends...

i had to meet a friend of mine on the eve of australia day. i thought a place in the city would be easy for both of us. i checked zomato for highest rated pub / bar. baxter inn came up with rating 4.8. it's very rare to find a pub / bar with 4.8 rating in sydney and that too it showed cost for 2 as only $60. i made up my mind and couldn't resist visiting this place.
the place is very hard to locate but once i got to know where it exactly is, i was excited. the entrance leads to basement n the ambience is congested but buzzing.
the bar menu is put up on the bar counter with all the whiskeys of the world are listed. standard 30ml rates are put up and ranges from $10 to $400. they offerpretzelsfor munching.

mumbai people can relate to this place as janta bar of sydney.

speakeasy style bar with an unbelievable whiskey selection - this place is popular and can regularly get to the stage of one in one out. it is a great spot to take friends visiting sydney and watch them be amazed by the bottles of whisky and the ladder sometimes needed by the bar tenders. when the place is packed getting to the bar, finding somewhere to stand and getting severed can be a little frustrating but all in all its a great place. and you will get plenty of freepretzelswhile you wait!

it's quite a cozy (read: small) bar but the selection of whisky is absolutely amazing. well worth the queue and perfect for a night out. (note: don't worry about eating beforehand, the freepretzelsnever stop)

last night, after a long day's work and a crazy week, my girl friends and i decided we needed a little adventure. one friend said she's tried and never found baxter inn so we decided to accept the challenge and yes it was a little tricky. i would tell you how to find it but isn't that part of the fun?

we all got a rye old fashioned and it was just what we needed. the atmosphere was great. the bartenders were great.

we did have to queue for a little bit since it's not a very big space. it being a crowded and noisy bar, it was a bit difficult yelling out the order. i would've deducted .5 for that. but, we got fed bowls ofpretzelsand that sealed the deal on a 5 star rating.

$50 for 3 old fashioned.

hidden at the back of a cbd alleyway, down a flight of dodgy stairs, is one of the best whiskey bars in sydney. you'd normally queue up to get in at peak times but it's worth the wait. walk in to a dark cavernous space reminiscent of an old american saloon. they offer a mind bogglingly large whisky menu that fill up the whole back wall. the unlimitedpretzelson offer is a nice bonus and if you know your drink then i'm sure you're in for a treat...

whiskey galore and not for the faint hearted!

tucked away from clarence st, you have to walk past the bike shop to the back and if you see a security guard chilling on his lonesome..you have found it!

walk down stairs and then when you open the door be transported back in time.. not really but you get the picture.

wooden bar with a bartender with a complimentary mustache. you also get freepretzelswhich are addictive!

great selection of whiskers, rums, tequilas etc.

pull up a chair at the bar and enjoy!

ps if you see an american bill paper jet plane stuck to the wall.. it was a gift from moi ;)

shed a manly tear when i saw their extensive collection of whiskey. their bartenders really know their stuff. it was at this place where i found my love, lagavulin. also, theirpretzelsare very addictive and their freshly squeezed apple juice is suprisingly good! so if you're the one driving, you've certainly got yourself some good apple juice company
