the battlefield restaurant

visited this restaurant for the first time at weekend. food excellent and very good value for money. real authentic italian dining. very busy, so you definitely need to book.

very good. good service and extensive menu very busy on saturday night, tables are close together but it didnt feel too crammed the menu had all the usual suspects of pizza pasta but had quite alot of seafood available in starter portions which i thought was good , the food was well cooked and would put alot of the city center italian restaurants to shame , would go back .

mixed bag of tricks. tried this southside institution for a birthday celebration with the in-laws. nice service, good patter. becks blue for the pregnant lady - no problem!

the aspargus and chestnut pasta had a distinct lack of aspargus even though we're well into the season now. it also lacked the chestnuts but we were informed about this before ordering so that's fine. sister ordered the fillet steak rare but got it medium and went in a huff. they took it off the bill. very happy with the open ravioli with smoked haddock, a creamy scottish dish with well cooked pasta! ostrich with brambles seemed to go down a treat. good desserts, if perhaps a bit artificial on the apple flavouring of the sorbet on the special's board.

will come back, very unpretentious and good atmosphere on a thursday night.

it's an old glasgow favourite. this restaurant is a throw back to how it was back in the day. the clientele and decor reminds me of my childhood. if you find something you like on the menu. stick with it. don't be too adventurous. they do certain dishes well and others not so well. it was full and there were only two waiting staff. as a result the service was slow and they had missed out a main. (we didn't order any starters). but to be fair there were seven of us. i guess it'll be a while before i return.

overall the food was excellent and i wished i had ordered pizza after seeing what was coming out of the kitchen.

the décor is a tad unusual however such was the buzz and genuine warmth of the service provided i think i could forgive them for that.

its excellent value for money overall and they provide drinkable italian plonk by the carafe / ½ carafe as well as draft moretti……..nicer than peroni i think!

i am 15 and i feel as a young person going into a restaurant on a not-so-date with my best friend we were taken very seriously by the waiter who served us. as we didn't have a lot of money with us we only ordered a main course, i had the spaghetti meatballs which was absolutely fantastic, my friend had tagliatelle rustiche which was also amazing! all round good atmosphere, food and service. 10/10! if you've not been get down to battlefield rest!

vegetarians heaven. i enjoyed a lovely lunch here with a friend and must say that the service and food were amazing even though it was very busy.

best italian in glasgow. we have been coming to the battlefield rest regularly for almost 10 years and it never fails to please us. it has been my venue for business lunches, romantic dinners, quick impromptu 'on passing' dinners, lunches with gal pals, dinner with parents, birthday celebrations and christmas meals there and it continually serves up great food and brilliant service - whatever the occasion.

last time we went i had the calzone battlefield which is heaven on a plate - especially if you're really hungry like i was! it is a folded over pizza filled with beef, pork, mushrooms, stornoway black pudding in a pepper sauce. couldn't fault it whatsoever. i have had most of their menu over the years and can honestly say there isn't one dish that i didn't like. some of their dishes use a combination of favourite scottish ingredients such as arbroath smokies, haggis & black pudding with traditional italian ingredients making the b. rest definitely not a run of the mill italian. their mussels are the best i've had in glasgow and their award winning pizzas are superior to anything i've had in my travels to italy over the years. i love their pasta dishes and my husband's favourite is the home made pate followed by the haggis cannelloni - my dad extols the virtues of their spaghetti meatballs and my mum loves the pork milanese and the warm crepe with honeycomb ice cream. the desserts are all home made and their strawberry pavlova is just wonderful. the waiters are incredibly efficient, never rushing you and you can sit for hours with a coffee watching the world (well battlefield cross!) go by. i have never had to send a dish back or complain once - about anything.

i would put my hand on my heart and say this is honestly the best italian restaurant in glasgow.

one of the best restaurants in the southside food was brilliant price even better will be back soon.

rude service. food delicious, wine delicious, service shocking!!!
as a group of local business women who dine out weekly we were initially impressed with the battlefield rest. our food was lovely however our night was abruptly brought to an end when we were agressively asked if we wanted anything else. one of our group asked when the restaurant closed and in a loud, sarcastic tone the reply came - "now!" which was 10.15pm. the bill was duly dumped on the table without a word. we left immediately and no member of staff as much as looked in our direction!!! needless to say we didn't leave a tip and we wont be back.

couldn't recommend it enough!. love this restaurant. food is excellent and prices even better. very traditional and really enjoy it being understated and low key.

have recommended to friends and family and have all made similar comments.

lovely meal. i took my girlfriend here on a monday night. the food was really nice and we both really enjoyed it, and it was really reasonable.might i add as well for a monday night it was pretty busy which is always a good sign for a restaurant. we both got a starter , a main, i had there special which was tablet ice cream(absolutely lovely) for desert and my girlfriend got a coffee and we both shared a bottle of red wine and it was just over £40 . everything we ate was lovely will defo be back!!

love it!. excellent service from professional waiters, fantastic atmosphere, brilliant food. can't wait to go back and cannot recommend it highly enough.
