this was the first time we ordered food from here, the food is ok, nothing special but nothing terrible either. we ordered fish cakes, stuffed chicken wings, stir fried garlic and pepper chicken, panangcurrywith chicken and vegetable fried rice, the fish cakes and chicken wings were nice, the garlic and pepper chicken didn’t really have a garlic flavor to it (needs more) and we found some plastic from a broken container. thecurrywas a bit disappointing, a bit to watery and like something is missing and the fried rice is nice all in all it’s an ok meal.

definitely the place to go for authentic, spicy thai food. new owners since my last visit, sorry to see andrew has left but glad the food is still so good!

drinks
its byo - the best kind (alcohol only)

food
entree - definitely recommend the tasting plate consisting of a very tasty fish cake, money bag, spring roll and a really special stuffed chicken wing
main - we went for a green chicken curry, penangcurrywith duck meat, larb gai (minced pork with herbs and prices) and a deep dried chilli rice dish we can't remember the name of. all dishes were awesome with the penangcurrythe stand out for me. the serving sizes are ample and this filled up the two of us (we eat a fair bit though)

highly recommended, in my top 3 thai restaurants in perth

my husband and i went to thai esarn for lunch friday last week for the first time. we were greeted by a friendly waitress who showed us the menus and came back to take out order. we chose an entree of stuffed chicken wings and an entree of fish cakes. i ordered the beef salad for mains and my husband ordered the massaman curry. the wings were excellent! crispy and very morish. the fish cakes were also very good, we always order fish cakes at vietnamese restaurants and these were the same ones we get from them, very tasty. my beef salad had great flavour and spice but the serve was very small and the beef itself was very, very tough. the salad was a tomato quartered and some slices of cucumber with a very nice zesty, spicy dressing. i've never ordered this before so not sure if that's how it is supposed to be. my husband's massamancurryhad huge pieces of really tender beef with potato pieces in a beautiful sauce. he loved it 👍overall i was disappointed with my salad, i was still hungry when we left but... i would go back another time and try something else on the menu.

dined here tonight for my mums 50th birthday. very accomodating considering we had a large group. i ordered deep fried tofu with peanut sauce for entree, was delicious! that peanut sauce is to die for! was like melted peanut butter, which im a big fan of! for main i ordered the vegetable pad see ew, which was very salty, but packed full of flavour, very delicious. hubby ordered the redcurryin mild, very spicy, but also full of flavour. nice sticky white rice too. yes the decor is outdated but the food definitely makes up for it. will definitely be back again :)

great food at a very affordable price. i've paid a lot more for thai that was nowhere near as good. the greencurryhas perfect flavour and right amount of spice (for someone that doesnt like it too spicy) and the milk tea was a nice companion to the dish. be aware this is a byo restaurant, however there is a booze shop accross the road if you forget to bring something alcoholic to drink.

seen good reviews on here and tried it once which we was not happy with the quality and taste of the food.. thinking they had a bad night we tried again.. second time trying was not full of flavour, the broth was watery and tasteless in the dishes, redcurrywas not hot and we both agreed it wasn't even as hot as a green curry, weird cut carrots which doesn't make the meal look appetising at all, as well as only being quite a small serving size, they missed the heat part of the dish and just addedcurrypowder by the taste.. oyster beef stir fry was very watery with not much flavour.. me and my partner agreed that some people who have rated this place obviously haven't had good thai food before..

truthfully a delicious thai experience, specifically esarn thai. hot, spicy and silky meals, swimming with fresh ingredients.

mixed entree consisting of a fish cake, moneybag, spring roll and a chicken wing were well cooked and yummy. tom kha gai, equally good though in a touch in the sweet side.

followed by an enjoyable duck redcurryand rice. servings were good size and staff attentive. haven't had a bad meal here yet. one of the best thai places in perth.

disappointed.too much sugar used in all dishes i tried. greencurrywatered down with no creaminess, no heat, can only taste sugar. would rather drive further for better thai.

not impressed. expected too much due to the other good reviews i guess. junglecurrywas very watery and the special rice was anything but.

refreshingly thai flavours. lead by the earlier reviews i came to the esarn just 1 trainstop from where i was staying whilst on a course in perth.

yes its a typically unassuming restaurant, modest decor with soothing thai music in the background.

my mixed entree was the same as i had at a thai restaurant the previous night 1 station in the other direction. similar prices and serving sizes but i think overall captured the thai flavours better.

the main i chose was a deep fried fish in a redcurrywith thai spices. pla lard prik. normally i would not go for a fried fish but it was definitely not oily and slightly hot. the serving was generous enough to forego the sweets i had contemplated. the two young thai couples sitting beside me with their thai chatter added to the authenticity of the meal at no extra cost and confirmed the locals gave it the thumbs up as well.

ummm... one more night in perth - maybe i will try an esarn dish tomorrow night!

the panang chickencurrywas very good – fragrant with slivers of kaffir lime leaf sprinkled over just before serving. thecurrywas refreshingly not too rich, with a clean taste, letting the galangal and lemongrass flavours shine through.
