what a nice change. to be frank, i didn't plan on eating at texaz grill last friday. my son and i had intended to eat at richardson's on a friday night around 7 p.m. but at the so-called "hip" spot there were several open tables, yet only one couple waiting, despite which i was told there would be a 1-hour wait. my 12-year-old son was hungry, and not so concerned about hipness. we didn't want to wait that long to be seated. i remembered that a friend of mine had recommended the texaz grill one night as we were leaving dick's hideaway, saying it was good "home-style comfort food".

when we walked in the door, texaz grill was also crowded with people waiting to be seated, yet we got a table in about 15 minutes. there were business cards and paper armadillos colored by children stapled to the celling, wall to wall hats, antique beer signs and texas memorabilia.

entrees come with choice of salad or cole slaw. we ordered the salad with choice of ranch or honey mustard vinaigrette. it was iceberg lettuce with chopped tomatoes and some diced green olives. it was heaped so high onto the plate that when you took a bite, some fell on the table. we got a basket with a biscuit and a wheat bun. the biscuit is the way to go here, so next time, i'll just ask for them. my son ordered the chicken fried steak. it was smothered with gravy and the mashedpotatoesstill had some of the skins on. it was the best chicken fried steak we've ever had, and in my son's words, it was ginormous. this kid, who practically eats me out of house and home, couldn't finish the serving. i ordered the pork chops. they were two huge chops, served southern style, smothered with gravy and mashed potatoes. i bought home one entire pork chop and some potatoes-enough for my lunch the next day.

the service was perfect, and to our surprise, the waitress told us that the manager, michelle, had taken care of our check. what a wonderful surprise! when i came home and decided that i had to write a review of this restaurant, the website http://www.texazgrill.com/ has the prices and the dinner specials. i'll be back with my husband on a wednesday night so he can try the liver and onions. i'll be ordering the chicken fried steak. what a great local, non-chain restaurant run by some very nice people.

excellent food in a mom and pop bar!. this is a bar that serves excellent food. the steaks are cooked to perfection. they let you pick your steaks from the meat counter. the mashedpotatoeshave the skins on them and come with the white gravy also. they were very very good. the country fried steak is their specialty. comes with a white country gravy. i ordered the eggs bubba which was the early bird special. that was so good with a ton of food. it had biscuits with country fried steak on them smothered in the country gravy with 2 sunny side eggs on top. so good. by now i am so stuffed but had to order the peach cobbler with ice cream which is also their specialty and homemade. really, really good but i was so full so my husband polished it off happily. waitress was incredibly helpful with explaining the food on the menu and was very friendly. we will definitely go back again and would highly recommend.

my boyfriend and i were looking for a steakhouse we haven't been to before after going horseback riding, and the texaz grill was close so we stopped there. the staff was friendly and we were seated quickly. the decor in the place was crowded, but in a good way. lots of interesting things on the walls and ceiling to look at. i ordered the rib eye with mashedpotatoesand a salad, and my boyfriend ordered the new york strip with fries and a salad as well. the salad was good, just lettuce tomatoes and diced green olives. neither had enough dressing, but my boyfriend loved the green olives while i wasn't to crazy about them. then we received our plates. big, delicious looking steaks. we both got mashedpotatoeseven though he wanted fries, but we decided not to say anything. the steak was ok. it says on the menu that they aren't seasoned, but we weren't expecting them to be so plain. we didn't notice they had a1 steak sauce until about the last three bites which was really unfortunate, as the heinz steak sauce they have on the table is just not good at all. so just be aware when it says "not seasoned" that's exactly what is meant, good steak for people who just like the taste of beef and no other flavor. the steaks costed $18.95, and my boyfriend commented that he will never pay that much for an unseasoned steak again. the mashedpotatoeswere really good, but overall it wasn't all that extraordinary. we probably wouldn't go back.

not another corporate restaurant!. i found the texaz grill a couple years ago while working at 16th st and camelback. my favorite kind of place is exactly this one. kinda scary to walk into. my first thought upon entering was to remember where the exit was in case of fire. the texas memorabilia is everywhere including the ceiling. the lunch menu is small but they aways feature specials. the chicken fried steak puts this place on the map! nearly overhanging the plate with real mashedpotatoesand enough corn for color and a fresh baked bisquit begging for melted butter and the ever present honey. when i started going here the lunch was only $6. the lunch costing now $7 or $7.50 is a huge bargain. a recent addition to the place is a great beer called shiner. sold in the black label it is perfect with any dish. the deserts are few but excellent. the bread pudding is a clasic. one day a week the menu features liver and onions. i know, we all tried it as kids and hated the chalky taste and texture. give this dish a chance! this dish has the freshest taste ever putting large chains to shame! whats not to love, pork fat, onions and very tender meat! put your jeans on and try this place!
