there is not much choice on the mountain forfoodso you would think the restaurants would make use of this. the tavern is one that depends on freshfoodand happy patrons. great meal of locally made sausages and a chicken burger. the meal was definitely fresh, wholesome and quick. while not too cheap it is well worth the stop. a locally brewed beer with dinner was had with gusto. great dinner.

lovely pub in peppers cradle mountain lodge so i expected high qualityfoodbut it was just standard pub food. we got:
* spaghetti carbonara - i found it too salty and too creamy. would be better without cream and having cooked the bacon until it was crispy.
* chicken schnitzel: my friend had this and he thought it was ok. the mushroom sauce was a bit salty but the chips that i tried was nice

thefoodhere is surprisingly good. went in with low expectations and had a good burger for lunch on the first day. two days later went back for dinner and i had the soup of the day (pumpkin), actually delicious. presently surprised. the other people i was with had pasta and also the chicken snitizel. all of which were made with quality ingredients.foodcame quickly despite a packed restaurant.

the service while quick was done with a frown, the waitresses were rough and didn't exhibit any sign of customer service.

we ordered the caesar salad and the lamb burger; burger was decent but was very dry and the chips were cold.

the caesar however was horrendous, the lettuce was thrown in the salad uncut with barely any dressing. the worst thing however was the chicken (which is an extra). the chicken was hard as a rock, barely warm and tasted like it had been in the fridge (or under it) for at least a week.

i get it that they were busy and all but don't servefoodthat you wouldn't eat yourself.

i was recommended this place by several people but was very disappointed. the service was quite good and the bar had a good selection. thefoodwas just all wrong.

i ordered the crumbed chicken with aioli - chicken was far overcooked, very dry, with nowhere near enough aioli considering it was the only sauce on the plate. my companion ordered the fish and chips - looked nice at first glance but once cut, the batter was clearly too thick and undercooked.

we managed to eat about half our meals then left. next time we'll drive right past this place.

a disappointment.
i have chosen this place after reading a lot of good reviews.

perhaps it's because it's a monday night, there wasn't a lot of choices offoodavailable. we settled with the special on the board of carbonara pasta,fish and chips, steak and fried squid.
we also ordered the hot wings as an entree.

food was relatively plain but edible. noting there's not a lot of choices on the mountain, i was looking for reasonably priced pub food. a little of a disappointment. i recommend for most that not want to pay exorbitant price to self cater since most accomodation are self catered!

friendly staff and good service, i ordered the chicken burger which had a lot of kick/spice to it so if you're not one for hotfoodprobably avoid it otherwise go for it! the bun wash fresh, chicken was cooked perfectly tender and the aioli was full of flavour. the other half ordered a pasta dish with the mushroom and feta (forgot the name) which was good and the apple crumble for desert which was a disappointment, the apple wasn't cooked enough making it feel like we were eating a heated up apple.

all you can eat breakfast buffet was perfect! with the option of eggs, bacon, cooked mushrooms, fruit juices, french toast, yoghurt, museli etc. great start to the day.

average service,
pretty decentfoodfor a tavern setting,

i ordered the beef burger & chips $21.50 was quite good.
wife ordered the chicken schnitzel was not worth the money $28 was dry and tasteless. the salad and chips were good just the chicken was poor quality.
ordered the apple crumble $12.50 - fail
got it swapped for choc brownie , much better !
had a coffee which was not too bad considering environment.
overall 6/10

my partner and i decided to go to this tavern as the highland restaurant seemed to be quite pricey. well, we came here and we're definitely not disappointed!
we ordered a bottle of pinot noir as tasmania is famous for that. i got the schnitzel with mash n veggies n my partner had the steak and chips.
we were both so ravenous as we hadn't had anything else after breakfast.
thefoodarrived piping hot, fresh and seasoned perfectly. it was almost faultless, and we would definitely come back here again! :)

the tavern is two levels of big tables, a bar, wood heater and a pool table. our visit to cradle mountain was in the middle of the week and it was very quiet and we never had an issue getting a table. ordering is done at the bar and thefoodis brought out by the staff.
