always a little bit off. we'd not eaten here for awhile, had actually backed way because of the inconsistent quality encountered with this restaurant. but recently, we decided to give it another try, so we placed an order for delivery, choosing baba ghanouj appetizer (alice likes their version, goes for $5.99), adana kebab ($14.95), a gyro ($7.25), and a spanikopita appetizer ($5.99).

just as we'd encountered several times before, they were out of a standard menu item - this time it was baba ghanouj - yeap, baba ghanouj! so, a substitution was made for another dip - not sure what it was, didn't get the name, but it was red & pureed, and was awful. i found two possibilities for what this dip was, perhaps either kopanisti (feta and roasted red peppers) or taramosalata (yogurt and mullet roe), if not one of these, then i simply don't know, but i know i don't like it.

the spanikopita was nice, as was the gyro, though it remains rather dry in comparison with other versions, though the extra tzatziki (cost 60 cents) helped. the adan kebab was considerably overcooked, and is considerably overpriced - not a dish i'll try again.

these are nice folks, but the food experience always seems to be hit or miss. we might try again, but with similar, more consistent places much closer by, probably not.

pretty good gyro here. since i had never tried the gyro wrap here, we picked up one last night for dinner, along with dolmas, baba ghanouj, a chicken skewer, and lamb shish kebab with rice and salad, and a side of greek orzo pasta.

the gyro ($7.25) is pretty good here, though it is not quite as good, or as good a value as some others in the area. the meat is slice fairly thin, which is not at all unusual, and it is tasty in this wrap, but it is a bit on the dry side. the tzatziki sauce is very nice, though on the mild side, but goes very well with this wrap.

the lamb shish kebab ($14.95), which we'd tried before, was tasty, but very, very chewy and a little overcooked, and at this price, it is not a dish we'll order again. the dolmas were very good, firm, not at all mushy.

the baba ghanouj ($5.99) is another dish, we'd not reorder - it is almost a puree, and that texture in this dish, is not one we prefer, and the flavor is rather muted. the chicken skewer ($4.99) is our favorite here, and was excellent as always.

small, out of the way place. this little place has been open for a couple of years now, and i didn't even know about it. the owner is from turkey, and has worked in and operated a number of restaurants in the greensboro/high point area. he and is wife are friendly personable folks - it is a pleasure to talk with them. therestaurantis small, really small, and can be a little noisy when crowded.

the real star here is the chicken shish kebab - it about as good as any i've tried. they are moist and tender, and grilled to perfection. the dola and zucchini are great as starters - although i often get the greek salad which is loaded with feta cheese, has a great lite dressing, and comes with a dolma. the hummus is very good, and the pita bread served with almost everything is a favorite of mine.

all the shish kebab entrees are good, though the lamb can be chewy. the spanikopita entree, which comes with a greek salad, is also good. i tried the chicken souvlaki, and it is not my favorite, i much prefer the kebabs. i have not tried the gyro - i have tried them elsewhere and i'm just not a fan of dry, thinly sliced meat. their tzatziki sauce is relatively mild, with only dill as a spice.

the menu contains some regular, american items like fries, burgers, and chicken tenders, but the mediterranean items are your best bet.

owner rude and told. "this is not mcdonalds" when asked to double the meat and pay extra for salad. also told wife in front off us/customer."i'm the boss and no". no other customers inrestaurantbut my family. i guess they don't need the business i was going to get 4 orders. we went to anotherrestaurantand spent over $100. my neighborhood is directly across the street with 300 neighbors. god bless them.

so...effing...delicious. we recently moved here from a town with some amazing greek food and we had tried another greekrestauranthoping for some delicious gyros and we were extremely disappointed. thankfully, we tried taste of troy last night and our faith in delicious greek and mediterranean food in the triad was restored!

the falafel with hummus and pita we got for an appetizer was delicious - especially the hummus. i plan to drive my butt up there for some hummus on a weekly basis. way better than anything you can get in a grocery store. my husband had a gyro and the look of glee on his face once he took his first bite was hilarious. after his other gyro at the other greekrestaurantin our area (palladium) was so disappointing, this one cheered him up, big time. i had a chicken gyro and the z-sauce (i can't spell tzaziki or whatever it is) was awesome. the pitas were perfect, the veggies were fresh and i left with a happy tummy. we even had baklava afterwards and it was epic and freshly made.

the only negative i saw was the service - we were the only ones in the restaurant, but there were to-go orders being called in, etc. we sat there forever waiting for the server/mayberestaurantmanager? to come offer us some baklava. she was on the phone for a while and on the laptop at a back table, so i assume she was working. i'm pretty easy going, maybe she got that vibe and wasn't too worried about us. i could have used a refill earlier though.

other than that - it was awesome. they were welcoming, the food was outstanding and fresh and the price wasn't bad either. go to taste of troy!!! it's awesome.
