mexican comfort food!!. head meat? tongue? heck yeah! the owner of taqueria 7 estrellas donates gift certificates for meals at his place to local charity organizations. that's how i learned about the place; i won a gift certificate while shopping at value villiage in tigard.

my first meal there was a torta that i couldn't finish because it's so big and i'm a big eater. the chips were fresh out of the fryer and still piping hot. the salsa was very like pico de gallo which is my favorite, and we could see the guacamole being made fresh from our table. the friend i was with that day ordered the pasole and horchata, neither of which i'd ever heard. that is when i decided that from now on, i'm ordering what she does.

i've been there twice since that firsttimeand both times i was lucky enough that they had the pasole on the stove. the bowl of soup is enough to feed two so i bring home leftovers.

only once did i have to wait longer than i thought necessary for the meal but my irritation melted away with that first spoonful of hot pasole.

as far as the wait staff is concerned, i have found them to be very helpful. my husband and i are both wheelchair bound and travel a lot in our power chairs. when we go into taqueria 7 estrellas the staff help us to arrange a table and chairs so that we're comfortable. heck, today the owner even helped move furniture around so that we could get in and be comfy!

sure, the place looks like a hole in the wall kind of joint and the decor is cheesy/tacky, but when was the lasttimeyou had an outstanding meal that you raved about from a chain restaurant? give taqueria 7 estrellas a try. it's worth it!

i went to 7 estrellas last night for the first time. it was amazing. i had a "cubana" torta. it was meat, meat, and more meat. i can't say specifically what the meats were, but it was delicious. my girlfriend ordered one of the combo plates. she has spent a lot oftimein southern texas and california, as well as various parts of mexico. she said the food was some of the most authentic that she has found since moving to oregon 2 years ago. authentic or not, it was wonderful. it was so good, i actually went back with my buddy for lunch today. i had the horada torta. it was dunked in some kind of red chili sauce. it was a complete mess, and totally awesome. it only made my lips burn a little. i still had a tiny bit of room left in my stomach afterwards, so i ordered two tacos. i got the cabeza and the pastor tacos, sooooo good. the head meat was very much like a nice pot roast and the pastor was bursting with flavor. also, they were on the most wonderful corn tortillas too. they had to have been recently made. this is now my favorite taco joint. i was also super excited to find a place near my house that serves tortas.
