mexican comfort food!!. head meat? tongue? heck yeah! the owner of taqueria 7 estrellas donates gift certificates for meals at his place to local charity organizations. that's how i learned about the place; i won a gift certificate while shopping at value villiage in tigard.

my first meal there was a torta that i couldn't finish because it's so big and i'm a big eater. the chips were fresh out of the fryer and still piping hot. the salsa was very like pico de gallo which is my favorite, and we could see the guacamole being made fresh from our table. the friend i was with that day ordered the pasole and horchata, neither of which i'd ever heard. that is when i decided that from now on, i'm ordering what she does.

i've been there twice since that first time and both times i was lucky enough that they had the pasole on the stove. the bowl of soup is enough to feed two so i bring home leftovers.

only once did i have to wait longer than i thought necessary for the meal but my irritation melted away with that first spoonful of hot pasole.

as far as the wait staff is concerned, i have found them to be very helpful. my husband and i are both wheelchair bound and travel a lot in our power chairs. when we go into taqueria 7 estrellas the staff help us to arrange a table and chairs so that we're comfortable. heck, today the owner even helped move furniture around so that we could get in and be comfy!

sure, the place looks like a hole in the wall kind of joint and the decor is cheesy/tacky, but when was the last time you had an outstanding meal that you raved about from a chain restaurant? give taqueria 7 estrellas a try. it's worth it!

i have been there for about 5 times ,people working there is nice, the waiting is too long and i don't like their rice the place is not so clean and they need to hire more people to clean tables that remain durty for long times.

i was not impressed at all. to start, the salsa was ok, nothing special and tasted a little bland. then there was the very long wait. when the food finally arrived my tacos were cold and he meat was dry. the kids got a burrito which consisted of ground beef only without a grain of seasoning on it, which was the story with the rest of the food. my girlfriends burrito was ok, but it seems like the cook at this place does not believe in seasoning at all. the red sauce was way to charred tasting. on top of all that we all felt horrible after eating there like it was fast food quality. will not be going here again.

me encanta!. ok, i know that this is not my first trip or review, but i continue to fall in love with their food. yesterday, i had one of their sopes for the first time. it was an awesome dish and will be in my rotation for sure.

btw: their pastor in any fashion is still the best that i have had, it's not too sweet but with just enough spice to balance it out. muy bien provecho!

update to previous review..... went back for dinner last night and ordered more pastor tacos, which were wonderful again, and then ventured off the menu a bit for a chorizo burrito. it was amazing. the standard burrito filling with rice, beans, etc. however, the chorizo tasted fresh, homemade, and filled with spices. i kept tasting the wonderful warmth of cinnamon and paprika. it is highly recommended......and the red salsa was much better this time!

best mexican food i have had in oregon..... coming from socal, where i lived for the first 23 years of my life, i have grown accustomed to authentic mexican food. i love it and joke that my heritage may be irish but my stomach is mexican. taqueria 7 estrellas is the best and most authentic mexican food i have had in portland metro.

i ordered 6 tacos (pastor, pollo, carne asada, lengua, birra, and picadillo) and only paid $9 ($10 with tip). they were all very good, but the lengua was a bit tougher than i would have expected but the pastor was awesome. the carne asada, which is typically a good test of a mexican joint, was a bit over done, but the pollo was tremendous. they have red and green salsas, which i am pretty sure are chile de arbol and tomatillo based. the red salsa was too strongly flavored of charred chiles, but the green was quite nice and tangy.

overall, i will be going back and feel confident that the food will be good.

i went to 7 estrellas last night for the first time. it was amazing. i had a "cubana" torta. it was meat, meat, and more meat. i can't say specifically what the meats were, but it was delicious. my girlfriend ordered one of the combo plates. she has spent a lot of time in southern texas and california, as well as various parts of mexico. she said the food was some of the most authentic that she has found since moving to oregon 2 years ago. authentic or not, it was wonderful. it was so good, i actually went back with my buddy for lunch today. i had the horada torta. it was dunked in some kind of red chili sauce. it was a complete mess, and totally awesome. it only made my lips burn a little. i still had a tiny bit of room left in my stomach afterwards, so i ordered two tacos. i got the cabeza and the pastor tacos, sooooo good. the head meat was very much like a nice pot roast and the pastor was bursting with flavor. also, they were on the most wonderful corn tortillas too. they had to have been recently made. this is now my favorite taco joint. i was also super excited to find a place near my house that serves tortas.

worth d wait!. the decor is not the best and nor is the area but the food is good. there is a long wait before you get the order but again that's because it is being cooked fresh and with exprience. they care about the customer enjoying and returning for the food. i'll drive from salem if i really want mexican (jalisco style) food.

yum. we've been going there about a year now and the food is consistently great. it's nothing to write home about for looks, but the owners/operators are very pleasant and the dishes turned out - fabulous. the prices are really low. the chili rellenos are the best, tamales are super, and i just had the taco salad - good and a lovely presentation. it's the only mexican restaurant we frequent anymore.

good food, good prices!. the food here is consistantly good! for under $10 you can have plenty to eat and great service. a 'mom & pop' type place with friendly people that know how to serve up authentic dishes.
