i had the worst experience. we were told to sit and wait to be seated to a table for 5 mins but took 20 mins. and yes, there were tables available. if we were told to wait for 20mins we would have gone somewhere else. then we finally got to order but the food had not come out for 40mins. we asked the manager and he says that we didn’t book so they are to serve the booking tables’ food first. what? and not one apology from them. he only says that he can’t do anything about it. maybegoodfood, but bad and the worst attitude. especially being a manager of a restaurant myself.

good food- the karaage chicken was well seasoned and the spicy karaage had just the right amount of spice. nice touch of seaweed on the rice. serving sizesgoodto share. ambience is very japanese style, just a tad too dark for my taste especially with the bright light outside. overall, great dining experience for our first time in new plymouth.

when we arrived the closed sign was still swinging on the door, two minutes past 9.
yes we were a little late as we found ourselves nose deep in cheap icy cocktails a few doors down.
after struggling a little with which door was the main entrance, the foh said that we could quickly slide in a cheeky order.
the fit out is like any other japanese sake bar in nz. kimono and sumo and sake.
the staff were all smiles and konnichiwa and very prompt.
we order takoyaki, soft shell crab roll, sashimi (salmon, tuna, kingfish) and a hot pot of beef in beef broth.
the fish was fresh clean and the deep fried soft shell crab in the sushi was still warm and crunchy. taki-yaki was as it is in 90% of all other occasions i've eaten the dish and the thin strips of beef cooked in a beef broth were also very morish, if not a little salty.
a bottle of dry cedar casked sake to wash it all down was perfect and the plum wine was a fitting night cap.
we were the last in and last out,staff cleaning and shutting down for the night around us but never making us feel hurried.
foods good. staff aregoodand venue is 👍. it's a fun place. would be great for all ages and suits all group sizes.

came here after receiving a xmas gift voucher. the salmon nigiri was delicious and had agoodportion of salmon. the karaage chicken was nice as was the salmon for a main. didn’t realise it wouldn’t come with anything apart from a few lotus root chips. should’ve ordered more sushi instead! my partner wagyu steak was overcooked and not the medium rare stated in the menu. the calamari was also bit overcooked so more chewy that it should have been.

friendly and tidy restaurant. their sushi was tasty and fresh. i enjoyed it! especially the spicy tuna one! will come back for another sushi lunch in the future. but i won't recommend the pan fried noodles which is not asgoodas the sushi.

our meal was suburb. sogoodin fact we are going back again tonight. everything was fresh. service was great. flavours clean and perfect. nourishing fast wonderful food. recommend this place highly.

every single time.!!!! beautiful. great service from friendly kind staff, and one girl (not asain) had suchgoodknowledge of the food and back round when i asked her about a certain dish.

fabulous resturant, great staff, lovely atmosphere and very authentic japanese food. and verygoodvalue for money! i have tried their lunches, set dinners and a la carte and love it all.

finally some authentic asian for new plymouth. excellent dinner menu, huge meals including rice and miso and beautifully presented. goodwines and sake selection. lunch is agooddeal, but often sell out of the specials quickly - maybe just a sign of its popularity.
