new look / concept = good.. having eaten at almost all japanese restaurants in the area (shogun, mikado, tokyo grill), i have become pretty accustomed to the quality and generally what to expect at a japanese restaurant. sushi kuni however, is a new concept / idea that i throughly enjoyed.
first, the interior was beautifully decorated, and on the wall, a vague silhouette of a fish (made of flower petals and dragonfly decor) is positioned at the main wall.
*the plates were so cute!*
secondly, the service was awesome! the server and the hostess always had a huge smile and treated me with respect. even got a free green tea ice cream!
lastly, but most importantly, the food was amazing. it was sad to see the people around me getting the americanized / fusion meals only (although they are good), because the nigiri and sashimi is cut perfectly and looks great! none of the cuts smelled or tasted fishy (some restaurants keep their fish for too long or badly cooled).
shiro maguro and hamachi are my favorite nigiris and they were as good as ever. i tried a new concept fusion roll with filet mignon on the top and i already know i will be getting that first the next time i come in.
overall ** good food, dinner price is medium to high, so i will be coming in around only once a week. but then again summer lunch prices are decent enough to come in couple times a week.
again, like i've written above, it's sad to see people commenting about hibachi this and hibachi that teriyaki this, because if you came to a japanese restaurant, you should be willing to try more, well... japanese food. give the makis a try and then work your way up to nigiris, i promise you, it is at least worth a try. oh and btw, there is no hibachi chicken on their menu so i don't know what the review below is about. try sushi kuni.
