i always have a good dining experience in sumo sam. i like the service, ambience and of course the food.
when i learned that the 2nd zomato foodie meet-up was going to be held in sumo sam, i was quite happy.
it's a japanese-american fusion type of restaurant. they have thejapaneseclassics in their menu such as ebi tempura, fried and steamed gyoza, sashimi, sukiyaki, and maki.
you'll never go wrong with their victory float.
i also like their fried squid heads. anything fried is good.
it's their own interpretation of 3 kinds of sashimi and maki. i love the tuna and salmon tartare which topped two of the maki rolls.
another unique thing are their sumo boards which are good for 4-5 people. it's a tournament ofjapanesefavorites.

japanese cuisine is definitely on top of my list.i always love maki, sushi and tempura! everytime i go for buffet, i unfailingly look for thejapanesetable first. and what a delight for me to see the zomato meet up last april 30, 2016 was to be held in my favorite sumosam restaurant.i have been in sumosam for a couple of times inviting friends and families to eat lunch or dinner there. they always love the food  and the quality of service in sumosam..

sumo sam is not a typicaljapaneserestaurant. the strokes of kanji printed atop the branding, the “hinomaru” circle on its logo, and the part of the name itself, sumo (ajapanesemartial art) are your only clues. the restaurant’s look and ambiance, however, does not feeljapaneseat all, despite the presence of some nihon cultural figures and paintings displayed at the bar. the dining sets look modern and the ceiling lights are pretty contemporary, similar to any “hodgepodge” restaurants out there.

japanese cuisine has always been about tradition and technique passed down from generation. rice & noodles are the key main staples injapanesecuisine. sumo sam tries to deliver you quality dishes at a reasonable price. though tradition and technique is lost in translation here. they do try to meet standards that are well above average.

the place ⭐️⭐️⭐️ - it is not always a guarantee a restaurant will flourish inside a mall. but they have survived the harshest battles. the place is quite cozy which is good for a dinner meeting or just trying to impress a date. you'd forget they have a small space. i really don't recommend eating out in the alfresco. i mean they are in the terraces for a reason. but humidity will just ruin your day/night.

the food ⭐️⭐️⭐️ - tradition and technique have been thrown out of the window really. the oyakodon is not prepared the way it should and some dishes have too much unnecessary garnish on them. i'm talking about their curry. but thru it all, they have a  good tasting assortment that's generally loved by the filipino palate.

the service ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - you'd think since they're such a small restaurant (floor area wise) they'd have a laid back work force. i really beg to differ. they are blessed with attentive, courteous & kind staff. that's the reason i came back a second time.

the value ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - value doesn't always mean the cost of the meal. value is the experience they have given you. and they have really impressed me with the service they always bring. a little tweaks to some of the assortments they offer and they can be a front runner in thejapaneserestaurant scene here in cebu.

sumosam, one of thejapaneserestaurant wannabe. perfect example of expectation vs reality. the food were not worth the price. pricey and disappointing, an insult to the genuinejapanesecuisine. better check other jap restaurant in the metro.

sumo sam servesjapanesefood infused with bits of american cooking. the indoor ambience is good, though you won't feel the nihon theme.

the food are great and of large servings. for group diners, their sumo board meal bundle fits the budget.

my personal favorites are dynamite roll, tempura, sashimi (tuna, salmon, and kani) and crunchy tuna roll.

the sumo sam's pride, a salad, is also interesting, the dressing is just too sweet though.

if they could keep the sakuyaki bowl warm and reduce its sweetness, then it will be worth a try.

one of my favejapaneserestaurant! i love the food, the place and the way the staffs interact with their customers! i always see to it that i get to eat here every now and then.

place cozy and comfortable. there is this ambience that makes it cozier than the usually even if you are not sitting on a couch.

food they had lots of food choices, big servings and mouth-watering dishes! i love their sushis, it satisfies my taste buds and craving for sushi. they have this tuna tacos, which is superb and delish in every way! they also have lots of promos and freebies. i had claimed a promo twice already while dining here. no hassle.

staffs they made sure that you are well taken care of. they are patient with your queries as well and they take their time while they are with you. you wouldn’t feel rushed in any way. kudos to this reestaurant and keep up the good work.

cheese fried maki totally satisfied myjapanesefood cravings! this is one of the "once tasted, always wanted" list of my favorite food :) i'm super duper in love with this one. i shared this awesome discovery to my friends and they loved it as well. we tried their beef niku udon and salmon ebiko don, too. their servings were actually big and it was enough to fill 3 hungry tummies. sumo sam is absolutely a recommendablejapaneserestaurant here in cebu

one of the bestjapanesecuisine i’ve ever tried so far. it was a very good variety of quality japanese. their carbonara is very impressive as it’s rich and flavorful. tried the donburi meal and it was appetizing. their staffs were friendly and accommodating. a bit pricey though but it’s worth it for the food.

i went here last year with my wavemates. the place was good though as for me i couldn't feel thejapaneseambiance. however, the food served here was amazing. those large bowls for ramen was really good. the price was fine , it was not that expensive. i first tasted the sashimis here and i don't like it but the maki rolls and sushi .. hmm i love it. this was thejapaneserestaurant where i first ever tried using the chopstick. it was really difficult. i ended up using the fork. hahahha

not bad for ajapaneserestaurant. price is ok for the serving and its not-so-legit kind ofjapanesequality.

before they used to have a discount/package if you bought movie tickets, i’m not sure also if they still have now. but def get the discount if you get a chance to obtain it from your movie tickets!

our go-to place in ayala when we just want a simplejapanesedish for dinner or lunch before a movie. its simple and very cheap if you want a budget meal to-go or dine in. the place is simple and the ambiance is good. the place though can sometimes be hot at times.

their location is great, the place is clean and their staff are always ready to assist you.

sumo sam is a goodjapaneseresto. we love its gyudon. its very rich in taste! the teriyaki chicken is ok as well.

all is good however they are a bit pricey. especially for the items that you won't mind checking because its supposed to be cheap. like the extra rice is p88, mineral water is p68 and the 4 pcs gyoza p228. these pics plus rice and mineral water summed up to p1100+.

anyway, we still love their gyudon!
