i always have a good dining experience in sumo sam. i like the service, ambience and of course the food.
when i learned that the 2nd zomato foodie meet-up was going to be held in sumo sam, i was quite happy.
it's a japanese-american fusion type of restaurant. they have the japanese classics in their menu such as ebi tempura, fried and steamed gyoza, sashimi, sukiyaki, and maki.
you'll never go wrong with their victory float.
i also like their fried squid heads. anything fried is good.
it's their own interpretation of 3 kinds of sashimi and maki. i love the tuna and salmon tartare which topped two of the maki rolls.
another unique thing are their sumo boards which are good for 4-5 people. it's a tournament of japanese favorites.

japanese cuisine is definitely on top of my list.i always love maki, sushi and tempura! everytime i go for buffet, i unfailingly look for the japanese table first. and what a delight for me to see the zomato meet up last april 30, 2016 was to be held in my favorite sumosam restaurant.i have been in sumosam for a couple of times inviting friends and families to eat lunch or dinner there. they always love the food  and the quality of service in sumosam..

sumo sam is not a typical japanese restaurant. the strokes of kanji printed atop the branding, the “hinomaru” circle on its logo, and the part of the name itself, sumo (a japanese martial art) are your only clues. the restaurant’s look and ambiance, however, does not feel japanese at all, despite the presence of some nihon cultural figures and paintings displayed at the bar. the dining sets look modern and the ceiling lights are pretty contemporary, similar to any “hodgepodge” restaurants out there.

great experience. sumo sam never stop amazing how they can serve food that taste even better than in their menu. the only change i will request for next time is to replace the mayonnaise with curry sauce to use as dip the chicken and fries meal that i ordered. thumbs up!

japanese cuisine has always been about tradition and technique passed down from generation. rice & noodles are the key main staples in japanese cuisine. sumo sam tries to deliver you quality dishes at a reasonable price. though tradition and technique is lost in translation here. they do try to meet standards that are well above average.

the place ⭐️⭐️⭐️ - it is not always a guarantee a restaurant will flourish inside a mall. but they have survived the harshest battles. the place is quite cozy which is good for a dinner meeting or just trying to impress a date. you'd forget they have a small space. i really don't recommend eating out in the alfresco. i mean they are in the terraces for a reason. but humidity will just ruin your day/night.

the food ⭐️⭐️⭐️ - tradition and technique have been thrown out of the window really. the oyakodon is not prepared the way it should and some dishes have too much unnecessary garnish on them. i'm talking about their curry. but thru it all, they have a  good tasting assortment that's generally loved by the filipino palate.

the service ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - you'd think since they're such a small restaurant (floor area wise) they'd have a laid back work force. i really beg to differ. they are blessed with attentive, courteous & kind staff. that's the reason i came back a second time.

the value ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - value doesn't always mean the cost of the meal. value is the experience they have given you. and they have really impressed me with the service they always bring. a little tweaks to some of the assortments they offer and they can be a front runner in the japanese restaurant scene here in cebu.

sumosam, one of the japanese restaurant wannabe. perfect example of expectation vs reality. the food were not worth the price. pricey and disappointing, an insult to the genuine japanese cuisine. better check other jap restaurant in the metro.

sumo sam serves japanese food infused with bits of american cooking. the indoor ambience is good, though you won't feel the nihon theme.

the food are great and of large servings. for group diners, their sumo board meal bundle fits the budget.

my personal favorites are dynamite roll, tempura, sashimi (tuna, salmon, and kani) and crunchy tuna roll.

the sumo sam's pride, a salad, is also interesting, the dressing is just too sweet though.

if they could keep the sakuyaki bowl warm and reduce its sweetness, then it will be worth a try.

great food! great location and great customer service!
aside from maki, sushi and tempura being my favorites, i was able to taste their house salad.. the sumosam pride salad! the salad sauce was just a perfect combination of what's in the salad as a whole (lettuce, prawns, mangoes, tomatoes). i can eat the entire bowl myself! and what's good about it is you'll eat healthy without feeling guilty! just perfect for health conscious people.. read more at glitterzescapades.com

food was not really that good given the price. you need at least 500 pesos for a single decent meal.

their sumo sam roll is remarkably delicious! every mouthful of it is like a firework of flavors exploding in your mouth. at first, i found it kind of gross because of the intense seafood taste but as soon as everything was well incorporated inside my mouth, i started to love it. there's a balance of saltiness with a distinct seafood taste, the creaminess of the mayonnaise, the subtle sweetness of rice and then the refreshing raw veggie (i think it's celery stalk, idk exactly what it was 😆). aside from putting the entire thing in my mouth, the only issue i have with it is how to keep myself from craving it coz i wouldn't be able to afford it all the time! 😂

sumo sam was a nice dining experience. the food was good, the staff was friendly and willing to go the extra mile. i asked if they could provide a little extra curry with my dish, and they happily did so. i am certainly returning to eat there again.
