delicious gelato that lives up to the hype

i don't have much of a sweet tooth, but i love my sugar now and then. i tend to get my desserts from the the bakery aisle from loblaws or metro (which are a lot better than people give them credit for) but decided to check this place out. i was skeptical of all the hype, so i went on a sunday night for their 40% discount. the line reached the door but i managed to get the register within 7 minutes. service is surprisingly fast for a dessert/cafe. perhaps because it was a chilly october night as opposed to a heating july may explain that. there wasn't as many selections as i saw on other review boards (there were perhaps 10).

i asked for a large cup, where i got half madagascar vanilla and half rich chocolate. i then got half-a-litre to go, which consisted of hazelnut, my all time favourite flavour for anything (lattes, cakes, cream, syrup, etc. i put that sh*t on everything), ferror roche, and another chocolate flavour. it all came down to $12.50 and for those who complain about price, this is amazingly good, even without the discount. most specialty bake stores are quite expensive and they don't give you as much asstellaluna. they really gobbed on as much as they could. price wise, i feel it is worth it and it tastes amazing, all five flavours i tried. i recommend getting vastly different flavours and trying them together.

the gelato was rich without the heavy taste you get from a lot of other gelato and was extremely fresh and flavourful. will definitely come back.

first off, let me tell you that i do not eat dessert often, but when i do: it is more than likely pistachio gelato fromstellaluna. so do me a favour and stop buying it so that when i visitstellaluna they have a nice healthy stock of my beloved treat.

if you're looking for a relaxing place to hang out and enjoy a treat, thenstellaluna is not the place for you.  this, however, is not a bad thing.  stella luna is the epitome of a thriving business and is always abuzz with activity and chatter.  on hot days, the line-up is out the door and finding an available seat is akin to finding a four-leaf clover. 

the staff is friendly and efficient, but the real reason i visit is the sorbet.  you really can taste the quality and love that goes into every batch.  their berry sorbets taste as if the berries were just freshly picked from the field and whipped up into a delicious treat just before you walked in the door.  

please don't let the pricing scare you away.  the quality and taste of their treats more than matches the price. i haven't had such amazing sorbet since i was in italy.

in love. i've been going tostellaluna for the last 3 years and let me tell you, they never disappoint. every visit has been consistent. staff are attentive and friendly. cute cafe to bring friends and family alike. nobody knew about this place and now its blown up! congrats :)

wonderful. this place has a great vibe. i had waffles, oatmeal and gelato (pistachio being my favorite) atstellaluna. the best waffle i ever had (try their berry compote - excellent - and their apple compote - very good), and the best gelato ever (even better than the one i had in italy). as per the oatmeal, a bit too rich for my liking, but a friend of mine thinks it is the best he has ever had...so if you are a oatmeal fan and like cream, go for it!

the service is very friendly. one comment: if you do order waffles, do ask if their machine is available. last time i ordered a waffle, it took approx. 35-40 minutes.

gelato is 40% off on sunday evenings (9pm to 10pm).

great place, especially for those with milk allergies!!. went tostellaluna for the first time last evening and was pleasantly surprised. i had heard it was the best in the city (and it didn't disappoint) however i was less than excited about my visit as someone who is allergic to milk and usually finds themselves with a single option, lemon or lime sorbet!stellaluna had six milk-free options, and their ruby peach lavender was exceptional! thank youstellaluna for not just phoning in your milk-free options as almost all others tend to do, you have made a repeat customer out of me!!

yup, growing discontent among "regulars". not surprised to see complaints about bad service/attitude. reading the passive agressive response from owner to somebody who had mistakenly ordered an alcohol laced gelato shows where this behavoir comes from. just take the mistakenly ordered gelato exchange the flavour for another, smileand look forward to their return. skip the sermon about how customers can avoid their mistakes and not annoy the perfect people ofstellaluna.! so pathetic. i am just waiting for competition to realize there is plenty of room in old ottawa south for nicer cafes and more gelato/ice cream!stellaluna is not that good and i am hearing from others who used to go there and recommend it to others say "yeah,stellaluna's, i'm really womdered about that place now".

great gelato. i love the gelato here with unique flavours if you are feeling adventurous and the classics if you want to stick to what you know. the classics are bumped up a notch to a superior quality to other gelatos in ottawa. stylish and new the restaurant is cute to just sit in. the sandwiches however are mediocre at best and if you make a trip tostellaluna just stick to what they are known for which is gelato.

tasty gelato but comes with awful service. i've been tostellaluna a number of times and absolutely love their gelato...so much so that i've been recommending them to everyone...family, friends, co-workers. heck, even when i had visitors from italy i took them to stella.

well, no more rave reviews after today. i went tostellatoday and ordered a regular 2 scoop cup. one of the flavours i picked is blackberry.
well when i started to eat it, i realized that it had an alcoholic taste. i don't consume alcohol. i've had this same flavour last summer, and there was no alcohol then. when i went to return it and replace it with a different non-alcoholic flavour thinking it would be no biggie...boy was i wrong! the employee in charge started interrogating me...when i told her i don't consume alcohol and she started to ask me why. not that it's any of her business, but its for religious reasons. then she said that i should have taste tested the flavours before ordering. she then said that this time she'll make an "exception" and give me another scoop, but small. she then goes and gets a small cup, when i had paid for a regular, and puts in one tiny scoop, the size of a quarter of the blackberry scoop i had in my regular cup. obviously, this stingy employee is badly in need of customer service training.

suffice to say, this visit left me with a really bad taste. highly disappointed!

lovely. cute neighbourhood gelato cafe.stellaluna switches up their menu offerings regularly and they aren't afraid to experiment with new flavours (including mojito mint). they accommodate groups and families well. their line-up system is a little confusing - they could probably do with more signage or could re-think their payment set-up.

best gelato.stellaluna has the best gelato in ottawa! i also love that you can get 2 or 3 different kinds of gelato in your serving without paying anything extra. the atmosphere is very nice, bright and relaxing. i especially like going in and knitting there.

i was forgotten while waiting for them to bring out my affogato once when it was really busy, but as soon as i asked someone if it was almost ready, they immediately apologized and gave me a card for a free gelato during my next visit.

i'd recommend this spot in a heartbeat.

terrific, as always!. i've been enjoyingstellaluna since it opened, and it's every bit as good now as it was the first day. the gelato is absolutely divine, and the baked goods excellent. over the winter, when i was not eating much gelato, but couldn't bear not to keep visiting my favourite cafe, i discovered thatstellaluna makes the best lattes in ottawa. soooo creamy good!

fabulous. i wouldn't have thought that another ice cream shop/coffee place was needed in old ottawa south, butstellaluna has been a welcome addition. excellent authentic gelato, first rate italian coffees and sodas, and various excellent sandwiches and pastries. the pride of ownership is evident in every detail.

the shop itself is modern, tastefully decorated and welcoming. again, a nice addition to a neighbourhood that is staring to become a "foodie" destination.

stella luna is a real treat!. i fell in love withstellaluna from the moment i walked in. the cafe is bigger than i expected and tastefully decorated with cozy seating. the ambiance is warm and comfortable. the selection of gelato was great, with about 20 different flavours, including a few fruit sorbets. my partner ordered a large cup of the chocolate peanut butter flavour and the rich chocolate (he likes chocolate!) and i had a large cup of the madagascar vanilla and lemon sorbet. i was instantly impressed with the flavours and the texture of the gelato and sorbet. both were smooth and incredibly creamy and intensely flavourful. the large cup was probably more than we both needed but i found it well priced at $5.25. the addition of the large slice of waffle cone adorning the gelato was an added yummy bonus.

we also purchased a litre of the ferraro rocher gelato as a gift for friends. this cost about $15 which was well worth it once we saw their expressions upon tasting the delicious gelato.

i look forward to visitingstellaluna again to try different flavours of the gelato and buying a gelato cake!
