delicious gelato that lives up to the hype

i don't have much of a sweet tooth, but i love my sugar now and then. i tend to get my desserts from the the bakery aisle from loblaws or metro (which are a lot better than people give them credit for) but decided to check this place out. i was skeptical of all the hype, so i went on a sunday night for their 40% discount. the line reached the door but i managed to get the register within 7 minutes.serviceis surprisingly fast for a dessert/cafe. perhaps because it was a chilly october night as opposed to a heating july may explain that. there wasn't as many selections as i saw on other review boards (there were perhaps 10).

i asked for a large cup, where i got half madagascar vanilla and half rich chocolate. i then got half-a-litre to go, which consisted of hazelnut, my all time favourite flavour for anything (lattes, cakes, cream, syrup, etc. i put that sh*t on everything), ferror roche, and another chocolate flavour. it all came down to $12.50 and for those who complain about price, this is amazingly good, even without the discount. most specialty bake stores are quite expensive and they don't give you as much as stella luna. they really gobbed on as much as they could. price wise, i feel it is worth it and it tastes amazing, all five flavours i tried. i recommend getting vastly different flavours and trying them together.

the gelato was rich without the heavy taste you get from a lot of other gelato and was extremely fresh and flavourful. will definitely come back.

wow!! hands down best gelato in ottawa! the owner was trained in italy according to their website and they only use the best ingredients. let me tell you, it shows!
i had a scoop of pistachio gelato with a scoop of coffee flavoured one too. the flavour of the pistachio was so pronounced and delicious! slightly salty, sweet, nutty, rich, and creamy. theservicewas prompt and would let us try a few other flavours too. solid recommendation!

fantastico! excellent gelato and the flavours are always changing. plus, on top of the excellentserviceand nice sit down and chill, but stay classy atmosphere, the servings are huge! i always get a small cup cause there is a lot in there and 3 flavours! love it!

staff are all friendly and theserviceis fast. don't be tempted to turn away if there is a line-up out the door; it moves quickly. the gelato is pretty good, over all. the pistachio and the cuban are amazing. everything is made in-house. it is a definite go-to for dessert; a good gelato never disappoints.

wonderful. this place has a great vibe. i had waffles, oatmeal and gelato (pistachio being my favorite) at stella luna. the best waffle i ever had (try their berry compote - excellent - and their apple compote - very good), and the best gelato ever (even better than the one i had in italy). as per the oatmeal, a bit too rich for my liking, but a friend of mine thinks it is the best he has ever had...so if you are a oatmeal fan and like cream, go for it!

theserviceis very friendly. one comment: if you do order waffles, do ask if their machine is available. last time i ordered a waffle, it took approx. 35-40 minutes.

gelato is 40% off on sunday evenings (9pm to 10pm).

tasty gelato but comes with awful service. i've been to stella luna a number of times and absolutely love their gelato...so much so that i've been recommending them to everyone...family, friends, co-workers. heck, even when i had visitors from italy i took them to stella.

well, no more rave reviews after today. i went to stella today and ordered a regular 2 scoop cup. one of the flavours i picked is blackberry.
well when i started to eat it, i realized that it had an alcoholic taste. i don't consume alcohol. i've had this same flavour last summer, and there was no alcohol then. when i went to return it and replace it with a different non-alcoholic flavour thinking it would be no biggie...boy was i wrong! the employee in charge started interrogating me...when i told her i don't consume alcohol and she started to ask me why. not that it's any of her business, but its for religious reasons. then she said that i should have taste tested the flavours before ordering. she then said that this time she'll make an "exception" and give me another scoop, but small. she then goes and gets a small cup, when i had paid for a regular, and puts in one tiny scoop, the size of a quarter of the blackberry scoop i had in my regular cup. obviously, this stingy employee is badly in need of customerservicetraining.

suffice to say, this visit left me with a really bad taste. highly disappointed!

fabulous gelato - probably the best in the city. but please improve the service.. fabulous gelato with interesting flavours. probably the best in the city. large servings, too. very good panini (interesting fillings! order ahead by phone if you want one after lunch, as they usually run out), good waffles for brunch, baked goods, coffees, smoothies, etc. very pleasant ambiance.

kids love this place, but it's also ideal for meeting friends, hanging out with a book, and just generally enjoying yourself.

the only thing that needs improvement is theservice- it's terribly slow and uncoordinated. for the gelato, you must pay first (this isn't obvious) then go to another person to get your treat. when you order something else, e.g., waffles, it's not clear when you pay or what your bill is. tables take far too long to be cleared of dirty dishes, and even something like the request for a glass of water usually takes a long time to be filled. i don't think it's a shortage of staff - i think it's a combination of poor training and poor co-ordination of duties.

nice smooth gelato that you can tell is made with fresh and honest ingredients. comparable to the bella gelato in vancouver. a tad sweeter than i'd like it to be but i still finish i no time. very happy with the food andserviceare quite good. this will be my go-to place for gelato now. it's a big step up from the pure gelato chain.

jonesin for gelato. absolutely charming and warm cafe! alot bigger then i expected and was it busy on a friday lunch hour!servicewas soo super friendly and encouraged us to sample a bunch of different flavours of gelato. it took me a while to decided but ended up going with the cookies in cream because it was just sooo unbelievably creamy smooth and absolutely decadent. my friend couldn't decide so he ended up going half hazelnut half dulce de leche. price was reasonable, (approximately $3.75) and a small serving is honestly perfect for a nice dessert. ill be more prepared for my return visit as i'm jonesing to try their fresh paninis! check it out for sure o-town :)
