so, last night i went to steel wheels to grab some pizza before heading home. this was my first time ever trying their pizza sober, and i can say without any exaggeration that this was the worst pizza i've ever eaten in my entire life. previous trips to steel wheels have been during the blackout phase of the night.

steel wheel's pizza is worse than little caesar's "hot 'n ready". it's worse than 7/11 pizza. it's worse than the pre-made pizzas they sell at the deli at save-on-foods. it's worse than pizza pops. this is the pizza i would expect a pair of ten-year-olds to make in a cooking class on their first try. this is the pizza i would expect to get while on vacation in a country whosefoodculture has no history of pizza whatsoever. it's $4 for 2 slices, but even at that price, why are you eating terrible pizza?

the place itself is a dive, but kind of cool in a "punk" way or whatever. the dude at the counter was polite, so that was a positive. people seem to like this place due to irony or nostalgia. irony stops being cool once you turn 25 and if you want nostalgia go listen to some old records or go hang with the old timers at blues on whyte or something.

anyways, there are plenty of places open 24 hours where you can get better food. mcdonalds. 7/11. that orange market place opened up on whyte recently and i think they serve pizza too. if you're so drunk that you're considering going to steel wheels, just go home and microwave some pizza pops.

such an iconic classic spot with their graffiti-covered walls. great for a late night on whyte. love their kimchee and bulgogi pizzas, and their koreanfoodis good too.

the pizza is mediocre. it really is comfortfoodat most, and the cheese on the bulgogi pizza is nothing fresh (it doesn’t stretch). there were barely any pieces of meat on the pizza, but considering the $4 price tag, you cant complain. i will come back for something other than pizza next time. the concept of this restaurant is something you’ve never seen before, and like others have stated, you either love it or hate it.

wow shocked when you walk in the door. graffiti everywhere in this old train station restaurant. up to the counter to order pizza or korean. beef veg and.rice for one and chicken rice and veg for the second. flavors are great ! dishes are cooked perfectly. drinks are beer domestic and korean or pop. owners behind the counter cooking and taking the cash. ( cash only).
get over the appearance thefoodis great!

lets be honest people, the only reason anybody thinks steel wheels is good is because they are drunk when they eat here. late late hours, cheap as free prices, and a ramshackle punk-rock interior/vibe have cemented steel wheels as a runaway fave nightcap destination for the bar stars, and other such late night darlings of our beloved whyte avenue. the pizza though, not actually any good. really none of thefoodis any good. and the entire restaurant feels like it will give you dysentery. but that's not what steel wheels is about, and i would be lying if i said i didn't just love going there at the end of a long night of getting dragged out to the bars. its not where you want to go for date night, or for after work drinks with the coworkers, but there's just something that feels right about a cheap, dirty pizza place to wind down a late night out.

a gem. great korean food, tasty pizza and very reasonably priced to top it off. the owner/employees are all great, they remember your face after a few visits and are possibly the friendliest guys i've ever met.

the inside, well i've had a few friends who were not fans at all but i personally really like it. it's a unique experience for sure and it's a great conversation starter. for a cheap meal with a few buddies or drunkfoodyou simply can't beat steel wheels! also you can buy soju by the bottle and it is pretty much the same price as a liquor store. a great casual place to go eat and drink.

best place for late night food. this is the best place for night time food, it is open till 3am every night and thefoodis great. spicy bulgogi beef on rice is amazing, simple but great. they also have some pretty unique pizza (kimchi, bulgogi beef), which is worth a try. this is definitely one of my favorite places to go at night. this is not a place to bring a girl on a first date though.

what can you say about this place. amazingfoodand amazing family that runs it. my only complaint would be that it's too bumping and they need to expand and make another one! awesome ;)

steel wheels. one of the worst pizzas i have had, and the place could be cleaner. thefoodis very cheap there and you get exactly that cheap quality food. if i was broke this place would be a decent find but thank god i am not broke and i will never have to eat here again hopefully. the ambience of the place is that of a broken down old hostel.

urban perfection. steel wheels is a marriage between multiculturalism and urban personality. the owner, phil, runs this restaurant with his daughter, kelly, and his wife, bona. i personally have been frequenting steel wheels since i was 15 years old. the pizza is fantastic despite what other reviews say. in the 5 years that i've been a regular at steel wheels, only 3 times i have been unsatisfied.

all three times i've told phil, and he gave me freefoodto compensate. he's great.

i am happy that recently, a lot of korean (students mainly i think) people come and occupy the restaurant. it's really friendly with this crowd. at 3 in the morning, it's usually filled with drunken students.

anyways, if you go, get the dumplings. he steams them when you order them (v.s boiling), which makes all the difference in flavour. takes him about 10 minutes, and guarantee that you will agree, it was worth the wait.

also, he is going to be upgrading the store even more during the summer of 2011.
