i’m not much of a ‘dive’ bar kinda gal. i don’t really drink beer and the dive bars i’ve been to in the past have been really dark, depressing, and old. i’m more of a bar-in-a-nice-restaurant kinda gal i guess. my friends call me charlotte (from sex in the city) because i tend to be conservative, proper, and uptight (shocking, i know). friends first introduced me tostarlitesome years ago. i didn’t want to go. i kept telling them i cannot do a dive bar. that i would pass out if they took me to dive bar. and it didn’t help thatstarliteis located on india street (about 8 minutes from the airport actually). so why the heck would i want to go there. we had just finished watching a movie at the gaslamp sostarlitewasn’t that far away. and friends assured me that i would like this place.

so i've heard positive things aboutstarlitesan diego before and it was even suggested for my bachelorette party. i think the downside is the parking because there are huge hilly roads nearby (scary for parking), a one-way street, and a long drive if you have to circle around. yea, we ended up circling around because we didn't find parking that was less than 0.5 mile away... and uphill too! luckily, on our second go, someone was just leaving and we scored restaurant parking on the side! we turned the corner and walked about 20 feet before i turned left toward the dark entrance. dennis was about to pass it up because he didn't even see the doors! the waitress seated us and we began browsing the menu...

going through the vortex october 17, 2011 approachingstarlitefrom india street, picture an unassuming, understated desert oasis with a soft stucco façade, accentuated by an array of cacti and a vertical beamed fascia which reveals the glowing name and theme of this mission hills’ hotspot.  but enter the hexagonally shaped portal to another dimension, far from the surrounding body shops and the nearby noise of the interstate and airport.

san diego has a good amount of neighborhood restaurants that serve high-quality comfort food that are tasty and skillfully made andstarliteis one of them. great menu with vegeterian and carnivours choices that are sure to please. the drink menu is ridiculosly good and the desert (homemade ice cream sandwhich) completed a delicious evening. whatever they're doing i hope they don't change.

a mule!. haven't eaten atstarliteyet, but i've been there a number of times for the outdoor and indoor bars.. i love it outback, it's ambiance is trendy but not pretentious. i would feel comfortable going there just about whenever. their famous "mule" drink, with ginger beer and vodka served in a copper mug is delicious and strong, must try it.
