delicious mules heavy on the ginger (which i love) -- and discounted on sundays. doesn't hurt that the inside is gorgeous (holy chandelier!) and the food is yummy. try the mac & cheese, truffle fries and kale caesar salad.

great steak and cocktails

everything was near perfect. the cocktails. the steak. the fish. the brie salad was disappointing as it did not have brie, but it was still delicious. i just wish the cocktail menu wasn't almost all mules. not everything needs ginger beer.

my friend recommended starlite. we walked in and i felt right at home. it’s a chill place that is unpretentious. service was good. prices are fair. i’ll be back. can’t wait to try the food next time.

really enjoyed the atmosphere and food here. it is a fun place to go. ironically the one
problem we had was with the drinks. one
if us ordered an old fashion which he has had made in many places and he couldn't drink this one, saying it was the worst he'd ever had. i ordered a negroni which they brought with a lemon wedge and it's made with an orange wedge. a minor point but just seemed odd at a bar lounge where good cocktails are touted. we did enjoy ourselves, the food, good service and the ambiance.

i’m not much of a ‘dive’ bar kinda gal. i don’t really drink beer and the dive bars i’ve been to in the past have been really dark, depressing, and old. i’m more of a bar-in-a-nice-restaurant kinda gal i guess. my friends call me charlotte (from sex in the city) because i tend to be conservative, proper, and uptight (shocking, i know). friends first introduced me to starlite some years ago. i didn’t want to go. i kept telling them i cannot do a dive bar. that i would pass out if they took me to dive bar. and it didn’t help that starlite is located on india street (about 8 minutes from the airport actually). so why the heck would i want to go there. we had just finished watching a movie at the gaslamp so starlite wasn’t that far away. and friends assured me that i would like this place.

so i've heard positive things about starlite san diego before and it was even suggested for my bachelorette party. i think the downside is the parking because there are huge hilly roads nearby (scary for parking), a one-way street, and a long drive if you have to circle around. yea, we ended up circling around because we didn't find parking that was less than 0.5 mile away... and uphill too! luckily, on our second go, someone was just leaving and we scored restaurant parking on the side! we turned the corner and walked about 20 feet before i turned left toward the dark entrance. dennis was about to pass it up because he didn't even see the doors! the waitress seated us and we began browsing the menu...

over the years, local artists, off-duty chefs, music types and cool, in-the-know indie kids have filtered through starlite’s hexagonal slatted tunnel-entryway.

going through the vortex october 17, 2011 approaching starlite from india street, picture an unassuming, understated desert oasis with a soft stucco façade, accentuated by an array of cacti and a vertical beamed fascia which reveals the glowing name and theme of this mission hills’ hotspot.  but enter the hexagonally shaped portal to another dimension, far from the surrounding body shops and the nearby noise of the interstate and airport.

best meal & cocktails in san diego. i love this place! it's hip, excellent service, amazing food and interesting and delicious cocktails. it's got a super-groovy interior and then outside it's like an urban beach party - i've told many food writers to check it out, you should too.

the brandt burger ($13) was the only burger on the menu and it did come with fries. there were about a dozen or so appetizers to choose from (ranging $5-$13), three salads ($8 each), three desserts ($6-$7) and a few main dishes (ranging $13-$20).

san diego has a good amount of neighborhood restaurants that serve high-quality comfort food that are tasty and skillfully made and starlite is one of them. great menu with vegeterian and carnivours choices that are sure to please. the drink menu is ridiculosly good and the desert (homemade ice cream sandwhich) completed a delicious evening. whatever they're doing i hope they don't change.

the starlite is a place i’ve been wanting to visit for awhile. i originally thought about going here for my birthday dinner, but my boyfriend’s son would be with us that night, so that plan was out. i went a couple of weeks later with my friend, heather,
