user reviews. worth a stop if you are in the area! the strawberry lemonade is gigantic in portion and in flavor (and i thought better than the sweetteaeven) and i recommend the mac & cheese and collard greens in sides. yum!

no good!. i went with couple of southerners! they always drink sweetteaat home so they know a good one when they drink one!

they thought the sweetteawas super sweet. they had hard time drinking it! i tried it, it was extremely sweet and i love sweet things.

jalapeno hush puppies: dry

biscuits and gravy: bland! didn't taste like anything!

the service was good though.

i must've gone on an off day.... i had heard about the restaurant from ddd, and was eager to try it out. i ordered fried okra, fried chicken and a double order of greens, and tea. the okra did not look like it was done in house - more like it was a bag of frozen okra purchased through a distributor. the greens were good, yet there was entirely too much salt in them, and the meat used looked a little like dried processed jerky. the chicken also had something of a love/hate relationship, because the breast i ordered was great, but the leg was ice cold. as for ice cold, theteawas great. the restaurant was extremely busy so clean up was minimal and the owner was pitching, and while the owner was kind and generous to most of her patrons, i did not feel the same warmth and welcome.

** $$ good, but could be better. i had a craving for fried catfish and some southern home cooking before i deploy, and it did satisfy it, but it could have been better. the corncake (i.e. pancake) and sweetteawere awesome. greens were good, a bit tangy, but had absolutely no kick to them. i had to add pepper and jalapeno sauce which is incredible because i never do. catfish was good but not sure where they get it. you could tell it had been frozen (it was a bit watery), large but thin cut, no bones, fat or skin, and he cooked it just right. breading was good, evenly spread, but i had to add pepper and hot sauce to spice it up. last time i used hot sauce was 5 years ago, if that gives you some idea of how rarely i use it. mashed potatoes and gravy were good. i couldn't tell if they were real or instant, so could have been better. a bit pricy, which is why it was rated two $$, $21+ for the double filet, tea, and tax. like i said and rated-good, but with a few changes, it could be great! oh, and a lighted sign would have helped me find the place easier.

average at best. it was recommended that i grab a bite to eat here and apparently it has been advertised on the food network. i admit that atmosphere and the big mason jars bring eager anticipation to having a southern dining experience. looking at the menu and seeing the statement about the food being homemade did not prepare me for the disappointment i experienced. the service was a shade below average. it looked like a number of people were at work but only one person was waiting tables in a crowded restaurant. i ordered the fried chicken and if i wanted fried chicken of that caliber i could've made it myself. albertsons serves better looking and tasting chicken. the sides were luke warm and tasted like poorly reheated food leftovers. i've learned that great food is prepared with love. this looked and tasted like they hated food and people. the only redeeming part of this meal was the sweetteabut that was overshadowed by the waiter dropping off a plate with a corn pancake saying, "oh yeah, you were supposed to get these." the place has won tons of rewards so i just don't get the poor service and food.

what a meal! nothing short of superb - the dried chicken, collard greens, candied yams, corn cake and sweetteais good enough to derail your diet and your pledge to "i'll just have a little bit." next time i'm wearing my 'fat pants.'

i was born, and raised in the south. i lived there 22 years of my life. i grew up about 45minutes from savannah, and never ever thought of tomato juice as southern. i went to the southern kitchen today. it was good, the sweetteawas on point. the mac and cheese was real southern mac and cheese. i was happy. it's worth what you pay for it. but it was the best southern food i've had since i moved to the west coast.
