soul food bistro

my review of the soul food bistro's arlington location is in the  florida times-union  this week, so i thought i would indulge you with a few more photos here, since the paper has only so much space to indulge my obsession with food-porn. don't tell my mama, but these are some of the best dang pork-chops you could ever want to eat! smothered is the way to go, here, people. trust me on this one. you're gonna want to eat all that rice, too... chef celestia mobley created the oxtail wonton for a chef's competition a few years ago. they are completely craveable. this photo shows them served family style.    chickenis a popular choice at the soul food bistro. fried, oven roasted, smothered, grilled... just get you some. the best mac n cheese in jacksonville, people. imho, that is.  there is so much more at the soul food bistro - both locations do a rockin' business. read my review of the arlington location in the florida times union, and go. sit. eat. get cake. there is a lot of cake. pie

 i've been to this place numerous times before i started this blog and i was never disappointed in the food or the service.  the soul food bistro is a cafeteria style restaurant where you walk up to the food line, take a look at the food and then decide what you are in the mood for.  the staff is all extremely friendly and make it a pleasure to eat there. today i was hungry and in the mood for some fried chicken.  i ordered the 8 pieces of friedchickenwings, which comes with 2 sides and a piece of corn bread.  as a carb lover the easy choice in sides were mashed potatoes with gravy and macaroni and cheese.  being extra hungry today i also got a side of greens along with a side salad. when you first bite into the chicken, you notice how tender and juicy it is!  however there was not much flavor in the batter of the fried chicken, and honestly i'd rather have the friedchickenfrom publix.  however the sides tasted

southern hospitality. the staff here is incredibly warm and friendly. they have a great selection of southern favorites. you can choose a meat and two sides and they have a huge selection of both. i have had a few things there and most recently ordered the herb roastedchickenwith collard greens and cabbage. everything was great and the cabbage was more interesting than i have had anywhere else.

the serving size is fairly generous so you may end up taking some home. plus, you definitely want to try some of their desserts since they all look great.

i am really glad there is a place nearby to get some good traditional southern food.

i ate here for lunch and it was probably some of the best southern food i have ever had! the friedchickenis so good and juicy and the greens are some of the best i have ever had. the service was a little lacking but the food makes up for it!

good service, food was so-so. i couldn't wait to try this place. my husband had been to the westside location and raved about it. the servers weren't very helpful in explaining what they were serving. i ordered wings, greens and mac n cheese. my daughter orderedchickenfingers, rice and a roll. pros: our table server was wonderful. the greens are delicious. cons: rice and wings had no seasoning whatsoever. maybe just a bad day so i will try it again.

home cooking!. very good home like cooking. the only problem is they need to have more consideration for their customers' sodium intake. please go lighter on the salt and allow customers to add salt at the table.

they serve cafeteria style, and there is a good choice of vegetables. the restaurant is clean and well arranged. the staff is welcoming and friendly.

i had bakedchickenbreast, collard greens and candied yams. thechickenwas nice and tender, the greens were not greasy, and the yams were a bit on the overly sweetened side, but very good.

if you guys lay off the salt a little, i would definitely return.
