soul food bistro

would always come here but after what happened today i am never going back!
as my boyfriend and i were in a bit of a hurry and wanted to grab a quick bite we came and the pork chops were going to take nothing but a minute or two and usually we would wait but sense our predicament of being in a hurry we had to leave. as we were exiting one of the staff members had made a comment to my filipino boyfriend and said "sorry we don't serve wontons". very ill mannered and will not come back to such a place!

great soul food. hubby loves smothered porkchops. cafeteria setup, you go through the line and tell them what you want. friendly and lives up to its name. :-d

great food and great service! the food is always comforting and delicious. the macaroni and cheese is one of my favorite dishes as it is creamy, cheesy and the macaroni is soft but not gummy. no kidding: i feel like i could eat a gallon of the stuff! the fish and shrimp is lightly battered and seasoned perfectly. everyone at the restaurant is really helpful and friendly with smiles all around! we always have a really good dining experience.

arrived to a line that stretched to the door. thankfully the line moved right along as the food smelled great. heaping portions on every plate. met some new people behind me that had just moved here from illinois.

the smothered pork chops were cooked beautifully. nice and tender, almost falling off the bone. the 'smack yo momma' cornbread was fantastic.

great place and i will return soon as i want to try the ribs they serve on fridays.

from the moment you enter the door you instantly feel welcomed. if you are ever in a bad mood and need an uplift, this is the place to be. the food itself will lift your spirits right up! this is definitely the kind of place you visit weekly. thank you potter's house soul food bistro for existing and being so wonderful!!

excellent food. on my husband birthday we decided to try soul food. the food was omg great . i'm from the south & it reminded me of my grandmothers sunday meals . the staff were very nice. my husband and myself will be visting at least once a month my husband is station at nas jax and this gives a little feelin of home

food was great!. we ordered our sides from the bistro for thanksgiving. the food was delicious. i plan to order my sides for christmas also.

good old fashion southern cooking!. was skeptical trying this place out but was pleasantly surprised by the food! the staff was very nice and i will definitely be back!!

my review of the soul food bistro's arlington location is in the  florida times-union  this week, so i thought i would indulge you with a few more photos here, since the paper has only so much space to indulge my obsession with food-porn. don't tell my mama, but these are some of the best dang pork-chops you could ever want to eat! smothered is the way to go, here, people. trust me on this one. you're gonna want to eat all that rice, too... chef celestia mobley created the oxtail wonton for a chef's competition a few years ago. they are completely craveable. this photo shows them served family style.     chicken is a popular choice at the soul food bistro. fried, oven roasted, smothered, grilled... just get you some. the best mac n cheese in jacksonville, people. imho, that is.  there is so much more at the soul food bistro - both locations do a rockin' business. read my review of the arlington location in the florida times union, and go. sit. eat. get cake. there is a lot of cake. pie

 i've been to this place numerous times before i started this blog and i was never disappointed in the food or the service.  the soul food bistro is a cafeteria style restaurant where you walk up to the food line, take a look at the food and then decide what you are in the mood for.  the staff is all extremely friendly and make it a pleasure to eat there. today i was hungry and in the mood for some fried chicken.  i ordered the 8 pieces of fried chicken wings, which comes with 2 sides and a piece of corn bread.  as a carb lover the easy choice in sides were mashed potatoes with gravy and macaroni and cheese.  being extra hungry today i also got a side of greens along with a side salad. when you first bite into the chicken, you notice how tender and juicy it is!  however there was not much flavor in the batter of the fried chicken, and honestly i'd rather have the fried chicken from publix.  however the sides tasted

stopped by with my wife and kids at 745pm (they're open until 8 on weekdays) and the staff couldn't have been nicer. we were the last ones to get out and not once we were hurried or given dirty looks. now on to the food...thank you for bringing real soul food to southside...we had oxtails, country fried chicken, green beans, collard greens, mac n cheese, red velvet cake, peach cobbler and i can't find one thing with any of the dishes that wasn't on point..we will be back, probably tomorrow. wow! even the owner came over to introduce himself and welcome us. this was as perfect of a visit to a restaurant as there is. i don't write reviews but i would be doing injustice to this restaurant if i didn't write one. oh and it was priced perfectly.

southern hospitality. the staff here is incredibly warm and friendly. they have a great selection of southern favorites. you can choose a meat and two sides and they have a huge selection of both. i have had a few things there and most recently ordered the herb roasted chicken with collard greens and cabbage. everything was great and the cabbage was more interesting than i have had anywhere else.

the serving size is fairly generous so you may end up taking some home. plus, you definitely want to try some of their desserts since they all look great.

i am really glad there is a place nearby to get some good traditional southern food.

great food and true good old fashioned southern hospitality. from the moment you enter, you feel like a part of the family. favorites are fried chicken, smothered pork chops, oxtail, and ribs (to name a few because everything has always been great). side are out of this world. even though its served cafeteria style, the food is made with love.

friendly staff and thoughtful soul food make this an a+ experience.

i ate here for lunch and it was probably some of the best southern food i have ever had! the fried chicken is so good and juicy and the greens are some of the best i have ever had. the service was a little lacking but the food makes up for it!
