the staff are very friendly and attentive. had an entre each, shared a main, with rice and miso soup, and a dessert each, more than enough food. excellent fine dining in brisbane.

all-round wonderful experience. being fairly fussy about sushi and sashimi we were delighted by the quality and freshness of the tuna, salmon and other seafood.
the black cod was exquisite, the duck excellent and the wagu beef of high quality.
we found a rare, favourite wine on the list when added to the overall enjoyment of the meal.
the staff were competent, friendly and hardworking.
expensive but highly recommended.

best new years dinner ever!. my girlfriend chose sono for new years eve dinner. it was a last minute decision but an excellent one. we were lucky enough that a group had cancelled their reservation at the last minute so the maître d' gave us their table. the room was traditional japanese themed with rice paper walls and doors that slid closed to section yourself off from the restaurant. you had to walk up a couple of stairs to reach our table which had underneath cut out so you didnt have to sit cross legged thoughout the night. our room also had a perfect view of the river and the fire works. ok enough about the ambiance on to the food.

we ordered a few dishes to share between the 6 of us to start with ranging from oysters, pork belly, scallops and gyoza. the oysters were very meaty and fresh and the scallops cooked perfectly. our mains ranged from duck, fish and wagu. the mains came out perfectly timed from our entres and perfectly flavoured aswell.

the beverage selection is extensive from wines, beers, sake and jugs of cocktails that are shared as shots.

all and all this is definately a place to go for a good night with friends with excellent service and even better food. the price of the dinner wasnt as bad as we thought it would be but still it is not the place to go and be stingy at.

ohh i forgot to mention that our private room also had a buzzer that lit up our sliding door if we needed any service.

the menu had changed since the last time we were there (over 6 months ago). but it didn’t take us long to start reading out dishes that caught our eye. even though there were only three of us we ordered pretty much everything that took our fancy and it en

exquisite. sono at portside is simply the best japanese restaurant in brisbane. i've lived in japan for 10 years and nothing reminds me more of japan that this restaurant. the interior decor whisks you away to japan with its wood, bamboo, paper, stone and tatami. the food is absolutely authentic and presented on beautiful ceramics by courteous, helpful staff.

while it is true that this is an expensive restaurant and the portions can be on the small side, the whole package is so perfect that it just doesn't matter. moreover, i've eaten at more expensive 'modern australian' restaurants and been bitterly disappointed. sono is the kind of restaurant where you truly get your money's worth on every count.

i think proprietors of those dreaded 'modern australian' restaurants should visit sono to learn what quality ingredients, artful presentation, beautiful interior decor and impeccable service are.

sono is in a league of its own.

very authentic and original. dinner at this restaurant was a unique experience. the setting, service, and food have a strong japanese character with a twist of fusion from other cuisines. although it is a bit on the pricey side, the investment is definitely worth it.

hip downtown sushi restaurant. sono is a hip sushi restaurant in the heart of downtown. it is located on fayetteville street and is a good place to eat before hitting the town. i have always had pretty good sushi and sashimi and service is also typically pretty good. it's one of my favorite choices for sushi in downtown, not just for the food, but for the atmosphere.

polished experience..our experience has been top notch service, a great fitout and impeccable food. just know it's not going to be cheap or pub-meal filling- but the quality is there. suggest the braised wagyu on a cold night for a different take on the usual japanese fare.

i think they used to offer much better food including sushi. food is still delicious but the portion is too small and overpriced which is a shame. also service was better and more professional before. i would go to hanaichi in the city for sushi, and bishamon in spring hill for casual japanese. they serve very nice everyday meal at much cheaper price.

the best sushi in raleigh. rice is always soft and the shashimi is amazing. try the lava roll, an explosion to the senses! i've always had great helpful service. my only complaint is the slow sushi prep, but they get lots of catering orders.

so not. i found this a thoroughly disappointing experience, not just in japanese dining, but eating out in general. the portions were ridiculously small and very overpriced. i had some sort of morton bay bug (which looked like < 0.5 small bug divded into three pieces and the tiniest portion of rice, all for $38). we left hungry and outraged. so glad i finally have a forum to vent my opinion!!!! thanks urbanspoon
