phuong and i visit for sunday lunch at 1pm and we are promptly seated at the last vacant table. service is slow and cold water is provided after 20 minutes when we place our lunch order. our cocktails and oysters eventually arrive followed slowly with the rest of our order.

the oysters served on crushed ice are small but exceptionally fresh. sashimi platter is nicely presented and every item is fresh, however, the serving size is small. tempura scallopsushiroll is a tiny serving lacking ingredients. rice and miso soup are served hot!

overall, an enjoyable meal at this beautiful restaurant. wait staff are friendly and helpful.

this is the first time i had been to a japanese restaurant which wasn't asushitrain, so i wasn't sure exactly what to expect. 3 of the 4 in our party were vegetarians, but we were still ably catered for in the menu. i chose the vegetarian bento box as it seemed like an appropriate sampler for a newbie, and i had flavours i'd never experienced before. it was a wonderful contrast of textures.

the environment is dimly lit and surrounding ambience is calming. ample space on the table for all of the dishes they brought us, which seemed to include numerous side dishes which we weren't aware of but were pleased with nonetheless.

the cost at the end was $240 for 4 people which i thought was pretty good as we went for a full 3 course meal. the only very slight negative was that the dishes did seem to take a while to come out, perhaps no longer than half an hour if i had to guess, but this would certainly not detract from us dining here again.

in our experience this is the freshest japanese food in bris. never had a bad experience here. sashimi and oysters are standout items but they also do many different share and main plates that are freshly prepared and delicious. teppanyaki andsushibar provide alternative dining options and they have a small bar area for aperitifs. they also have a number of private dining rooms which are a great experience for special occasions with friends and/or family. service is always impeccable and pricing, as you’d expect, is reasonably above average. daytime dining is rewarded with views over the brisbane river.

fresh sushi, amazing tempura and authentic sukiyaki. problem is getting a table, it can be booked out on a monday night. early reservation recommended or be prepared to eat really fast and clear out. priciest japanese restaurant i've been in town but well worth it for thesushi(yes there are badsushivs excellent ones) and the tempura.

sono has been my favourite restaurant for many years now. not only is the environment and decor of the restaurant beautiful and comfortable, but the food is always to the best standard. the sashimi is always fresh and presented beautifully in generous serving sizes. thesushiis faultless and for mains, i recommend the succulent wagyu striploin with teriyaki sauce. the service is also excellent, with accommodating staff who are friendly and polite. it is slightly pricey but you definitely get what you pay for and is a great dining experience, especially for special occasions.

beautifully decorated japanese restaurant with the most polite and courteous staff. i've been there a couple of times, and the seafood has consistently been fresh and mouth-watering delicious. yes it's expensive, but i do believe it's well worth it - the chefs are amazing! by far some of the best sashimi andsushii've had.

yum.  it was a tad on the expensive side, but it makes you realise how crap those littlesushibar joints are.  totally worth the money every now and then.
been coming here for ages and the service can be a bit up and down.  on a bad day, it's still fine.  on a good day, it's really lovely.

i love japanese food for it exceptional quality, artistry and absolutely superb presentation. over many years now i have activley sought to find the best japanese restaurants in australia. i have also travelled widely in japan - "over the backroads of japan" - which is an extraordinary experience. clearly japan is the best of asia, in my view.

for some reason there are some quite poor japanese restaurants in queensland. some are chinese or australian operated reproductions! some are quite pathetic & totally over priced for "what you get" like wasabi in noosa.

we went to sono yesterday evening. it was a great & highly professional experience. yes it is slightly pricey but you get what you pay for in this life.

sono offers you an extraordinary modern & elaborate experience of the highest possible standing. the fit out of the restaurant will meet all of you needs - e.g private tatami rooms, teppanyaki tables, sushibar, etc.

sono in hamilton must be the best japanese restaurants in brisbane and rate as one of the best in australia. it is similar format to kobe jones in sydney. it is better than kensan & kuni's in melbourne which are also very good restaurants. but kunis has for many years offered the best value.

sono is the real thing - just fantastic

nice ambiance, prices high. while we really enjoyed the ambiance of sono, excellent service, and the location of being in downtown raleigh, we were quite disappointed by the high prices and small portions. thesushididn't live up to the expectations derived from the pictures and descriptions noted in the menu. the shrimp hibachi was good (not great) and had maybe 8 shrimp and less than a cup of vegetables for $22.

terrible - off day?. we must have caught this place on an off day. we have eaten here before and loved it but last night it was just not up to expected standards. we started off ordering sake, our friendly waiter was helpful but totally clueless about any of the sakes. we then ordered a platter of sashimi and platter of sushi. our waiter again was not able to tell us about the provenance of the fish - he knew which was which of course, but that was it. the tuna nigiri on thesushiplatter was obviously the last bit of tuna - it was all sinew. totally revolting! i couldn't understand why a top establishment like sono would serve that! to make it worse, when i asked for it to be replaced (politely) i could see the chef yelling at the waiter when he took it back. i felt terrible for him. anyway after some heated discussion between several people it was replaced with a lovely piece of tuna. the rest of the meal was fine, nothing special. though the tempura scampi was pasty and revolting - frozen? old? i don't know? anyway, it was all very disappointing! the service was prompt, though they were i'll informed about the product they were serving.

we'll never be back - we'll be sticking with sake from now on.

“irasshaimase. to me, any restaurant worth a visit ,has to reflect the culture of its country of origin, and sono does this beautifully.the complexity of the dishes yet the harmonious blending of the ingredients ,the quality, seasonability, and impeccable presentation ,are all there.it may be a bit expensive, but hey,you get what you pay for,no matter where you are,and i was not disappointed.if you are looking for asushilocomotive experience ,then this is not the place to go,but if you are looking to taste ,and experience japanese culture ,then this is the place to visit.by the way make sure your socks do not have any holes in them !

best japanese food, without a doubt!. best service, delicious menu, most beautiful views and interior and quality produce. i went here with a friend, and we love our japanese food, and thought why not go fine dining for once. we were not disappointed! the food comes out, and it may look small, but that is very deceiving, it is very filling! we ordered 5 entree's at first, a largesushiroll, and wagyu shabu shabu, and the waitress went away. she came back about 5 minutes later, and was very honest, and told us that 5 entree's may be too much and we should reduce it down if we wanted to have enough room for shabu shabu. i was very touched by that gesture, saving us about $20.
they also serve many types of different alcohols, and there's something for everyone. very recommended restaurant for the experience, service, food and basically everything!
